You need to wipe the stain with a cloth after you put it on with the brush. It will remove the streaks and it lets more of the wood grain show through. I know it will be a pain in the butt to sand again and redo it but I promise it will come out much better. I did this to my front door and all the videos I watched everyone wiped it after applying with the brush and I love the way it turned out.
Yes! I think you will get the desired result by wiping the stain as you apply. 🦋
Yes that is exactly what you must do Kelly. Sand it again inside, stain & wipe 🦋
You can do that multiple times also
Agreed. I did this on my kitchen cabinets.
Yes!! Exactly what needs to be done!
🐝🐝 Don't have a butterfly emoji! So it's the bee's knees!
You're definitely right that it does look like an old distressed door. I admire how tenacious you are.
I love the way the outside looks it really enhances the look of the home. I say paint the inside of the door and trim white. It should match the interior of your home and does not need to be the same color as the outside. My front door outside is red, but the inside is white. You had your solution before you closed out your episode ❤🦋 Great job! Keep up the great work!
I did this to my door when we first moved into this house and on camera it looked okay but in person it looked like a rough diy lol I know your love hate relationship 😅😅
Rough diy 🤣 yes!
I think leave the outside and paint the inside white.🦋
You’re right to live with it to see if you like it better. If not, go back with white on the inside. The outside looks like real wood! I admire your vision!🦋
Kelly, one thing I love about you is that you don’t give up. Proud of you girl. 🦋
Good idea to live with it for a while
🦋🦋🦋
Just FYI; Kelly, the little tray in the top of your dishwasher is for silverware. I did away with my basket and always use the tray, it is so nice to have freeing extra space in your large drawer. I love what you have done bro your home. Mobile homes can be cute.❤
I like it. I would leave it until everything is finished and then decide.🦋
I too love the outside better than the inside. But idk maybe it will grow on me too😀🦋
The door does look good honey good video much loves and hugs to you all 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
I like the wood look. It’s completely fine. We are always harder on ourselves… I am loving these videos of your transformation. You are truly making it a home for your family. Congratulations. 🦋
I like the door. I think you did a good job
It’s got that natural wood look. It looks good. Once you seal it, you’ll notice that. Good Job! 🦋
I love it the way it is ❤❤❤❤
I like it. I think it stands out to you because your house is kinda empty. Once your house is all homey I think it’ll look really pretty!!
I think once you have your furniture and decor up you’ll find that you like it. The wreath looks nice . Be sure to get the weather stripping on,there is lots of light coming through the door. 👍🏻🦋
I think since your door already has the wood grain you should apply with a cloth. That will make the stain more even.🦋 Long time watcher, first time commenter.
That's what I would do. If you don't like the inside of the door, paint it. I think it will be perfectly fine to have the outside of the door different. I've seen that many times🦋😉
Love the door! I think you will be so happy once you get moved in and have your decor up and floors done. Also, so fun to hear you mention building a front porch. We will for sure be along for the ride if you decide to build it. 🤠
Agree, wait until after you get your decor up to decide. 👍🏻😉
I love it the way it is now. It’s supposed to be inconsistent. 🦋
I actually love how it turned out but if you’re loving the outside part, I’d just paint the inside part to go with your wall color and decor! ❤
Paint it black. I did and it looks good
I would paint the inside white. The outside looks great!
Stain and wipe with rag. You could paint it black that would look good. Great job.
Kelly I love how it looks like you said give it a few weeks you will know it you want to change it 🦋🦋🦋🦋
I think the doors are pretty. I would Waite till you get fur in then decide. But it’s up to you
I like the door, you should keep it but you do have to wipe after you brush it on. 🦋🦋🦋
I really love it! I think once you start v adding color back inside it will stand out.
I would paint the inside back to white and leave the outside with the wood look, I think the wood look inside is against all your white walls is a stark contrast with the white being so bright, it appears your siding matches the wood look much better. Great job!
Wipe the stain in direction of the "grain" after application with brush. Work in small areas. Remember-- it is not paint. You hae a great idea to do the door this way!
That would work, like the wreath you need to change back to white on the inside and add a colorful wreath. 🦋🦋🦋
The outside door looks amazing 🦋
That door looks GOOD! Maybe a darker color paint underneath before the stain would have make it look more blended but hey! Good job!
On camera kelly IMO it looks really pretty! Very natural wood looking to my eyes. I like it alot. I feel like it breaks up the white also. I vote leave it the way it is... 🦋🦋
Kelly, I think once you seal it, get the blinds and the curtains up, get your furniture in you will like it. Don't seal it until everything is done then decide. I just got finished painting my atrium back doors black and I left my trim white to match my walls and they look fantastic! Good luck sweetie as your home has come so far and look amazing! You are a very hard working woman and a wonderful Mom! 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Yesss!!! Blinds, floor and adding back color will be perfect!
I love the door. It gave it character.
🦋🦋🦋🦋 so exciting for you to have your own home sometimes projects are a work in progress 😂 have an amazing weekend pretty lady
I love the door i think you did amazing job don’t change the door I love it🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
I’ve had some issues like that with gel stain also. I think it looks great. Nobody looks that close, you are probably the only one who notices. 🦋
🦋 Honestly, not a big fan but to each his own. You’ll make it look beautiful.
Sometimes just a simple white wash treatment will lighten up a darker stain. Mix white chalk paint with water and rub on with a lent free cloth. I think the faux wood door is a great contrast to your home!
I think leaving the outside of the door the wood look and painting the inside ehite would work well with ascetic you're creating. But you do you! ❤ 🦋
🦋🦋It actually looks natural and I actually have yet to see a perfect one .. so give it some time.. you can always change it 😊
It looks really good in my opinion. My front door is painted red, but on the inside of the house my door is painted white and I like, if it was red like the outside door, I would literally go crazy....🦋
Definitely go back while on inside
Kelly, I don’t know anything about stains but you did good for this to be a DIY!
I’m sure you will find a solution for the door and you will feel better.😊🦋
🦋 probably sealing it would help 😊
Loving the way it looks outside. The inside, I would probably paint white. But the outside is beautiful. Looking into doing this myself.
It may just be because it's flat. Maybe if you seal it? That might bring out more of the grain. It looks really pretty. Hang in there and trust the process. 🦋🦋
Clicked so fast and it's Saturday! I'm so used to Sunday❤. Maybe adding more stain to it? I think once it's sealed you'll like it better, and when you get all your things in there! Love ya! 🦋🦋❤️❤️😊
I missed this video😢 glad I found it
The outside of thedoor look great! It appears to have more stain on it than the inside. Perhaps you could try applying another THIN coat on the inside with a soft cloth ( old T-shirt). I always apply stain with a cloth as I have more control with it versing the brush. You are truly doing an amazing job with the house!
It looks good. Once you seal it and you have furniture and decor I think it will give the inside a nice pop of color🦋
Before you even said it, I thought paint the inside white. That’s what I’d do. The outside looks great. It’s coming along great job 👏 🦋
The problem with that is you lose the entire transformation of having a “wooden” door. A real wooden door is wood on both sides same color, not white on the inside and that would look really tacky. To be honest. I like the way she did it.
I Love the door! I think it looks just like an old rustic door!!🦋🦋🦋
I think it looks great! Just wait, you’ll end up loving it as you get settled in. 🦋
I think it adds character. 🦋
I think it looks fabulous and rustic! Leave it! The color is great!
You are incredible with the paint techniques!
🦋🦋🦋 seal it! Looks better from a non judgmental eye!!
Kelly beautiful i think it's the white it's making the door stand out. Maybe when you start adding colors it will blend in. I really do think you did a good with the door. But in the end its what you think. Your home is all white so it stands alone like it. 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌹
Leave it. Looks nice. If you do decide to give another coat use a rag to apply the stain stead of a brush. Good job!
I’m on the fence about the door. I’m glad you are waiting to see if you like it. I think a good rubbing it off while you add more stain would help. 💛🧡💚💛🧡💚
I Love the look of the frint door on the outside!! 🦋
I think you should use that color on all the doors trim and windows trims inside also.
Wiping stain with a cloth makes a big difference. I agree with @AliciaLynn2, try redoing it again, you'll love it. 🦋
I really like the door it looks rustic/antique 👍🏽
Try viewing it through the camera, as we are... it really does look nice. :) Although the folks below suggesting wiping it with a cloth after painting... this gives you more control over the tones...
Think it looks good.
My husband just flipped a house & had a professional painter paint the inside & the painter said regarding the front & back doors that painters even for new construction homes paint the outside of the doors the color the person wants for the outside & they paint the inside of the door the same color as the walls 😊 But it’s whatever look you’re going for 😊 I can see where the stain on the inside accents with the other browns you’ll have inside 😊
I think you should add weather stripping and try living with the door for a bit. I really wish someone would’ve showed me how easy weather stripping is. My door was so drafty. Just peel and stick. 😊
It looks great! It looks better than a white door in your space.
Wipe the product on with a rag, go in the direction of the grain, doing one section at a time before moving onto another section. Always work with a wet edge. Do it when it's cool outside so you have time to work.
Give it a good sanding and wipe the stain off after applying. It will look even better! 🦋
Our house is the wood look on the outside and white on the inside and we love it
Paint the inside white 🙌🙌 seal the outside it will be perfect
Kelly,if it makes you feel any better,I have seen 2 others try this technique, and neither of them loved the finished product either.
I like the door Kelly. Not sure if Rustic is the word I should use to describe it, but I really like it. You did great. Real nice work you put in there. 👍
Hey, trial and error. Decorate it and see how you feel. Another option you could try is painting the trim back white and leaving the door brown. I think the outside looks great with the white trim. Like maybe it looks off because it's too much brown on the inside?? But I know it'll look good once it's complete no matter what you decide to do. 🦋🍁
Personally, I think it looks great. 🦋
🦋🦋🦋 I love it inside & out. I do understand thing's look different in person. I really believe once you decorate inside it will really change everything. You always do beautiful diys anyway.
I would do another coat but use a rag to wide it on. Use a very light touch following the grain.
I believe waiting to make your final decision is wise! You have put in a whole lot of work and your feelings about the door is very personal. My thoughts is that your work to correct the problem made a good change in how the door looks, however you will have a gut reaction as you allow your body to rest ; then you can make a decision clearly from your heart that you can live with! I think you did a good job however it’s what you think about the door that truly matters. Trust your ability to make the right choice in the end, you have amazed me with what you see and bring it about to have a beautiful home! Personally, I would make sure to close the open gaps around the door because weather stripping may help you view your door differently. Gale Flowers 🌸 🦋🦋🦋
Nice 😊 on both sides to me. The outside looks beautiful with the wreath. 🦋
I like it but agree it’s stark right now but as you furnish your home I think it will look very good
You need to wait and see what it looks like with your floors. That may be the true deciding factor.
Can’t wait to see the finishing touches 🦋🦋🦋
I love it. I think you will like it so much more once your home is furnished.
🦋. I think once you get everything in the house and decorated you will like it I love the old look
I think your giving it some time to decide about the door is a good idea. I think as it looks on camera it has a rustic look, I don’t know but I definitely like the dark stain against all the white. Thanks for sharing. 🦋🦋
I honestly think the door looks good 🦋
Hey Kelly, it looks like the door is off with the jam. You may want to look at the hinges and adjust the pins.
I love it. Through a wreath on the inside too. It will break it up some.
I think it looks fantastic. 😍 Even the inside of the door. 🦋
Love the outside! Paint the inside black & call it a day! I love black doors! 🦋
I love the door, but maybe paint the trim inside white to match the rest of trim
🦋 love the outside of the door
I like the door! It looks nicely rustic! 🦋
