I never thought this would occur. I thought you had ended.
This Month on the Railroad: My end was… greatly exaggerated.
So little backstory for the baltimore red line: It's long delay has a very important factor. The line came from a proposed set of routes to be added in baltimore in 2002 and was the only one to make any move forward. Not sure when the project officially started but they got through all phases (local funding, state funding, etc) and officially got authorization to begin construction when Hogan (at the time governor of Maryland) nixed the project calling it a boondoggle and instead adding a new set of bus routes. It was re-greenlit by Moore (current govenor) a year or so ago but they have to go through all the phases again because development has gotten in the way of the original planned route (in other words, there are new buildings that sit right in the original planned path of the line). I believe the line is planned to open at some point in the 2030s (maryland MTA is very, *very* slow with everything they do) but I believe it would've opened this year had it not been nixed in 2015.
Hogan was a blight on MD for cancelling the red line
5:05 NS got the Georgia Central and has a unit honoring it. CSX got just the Georgia Railroad, which is what this unit is painted for.
Also, what’s been happening in June:
1. Dierks Lumber steam locomotive no. 207 has officially launched their GoFundMe page for folks to donate, so it can return to operation in Tulsa, Oklahoma
2. Southern Pacific steam locomotive 2479 received its first hydo test
3. Flying Scotsman has a new operator than plans to have it be on display for 30 days, 15 heritage railway visits, and 20 mainline excursions every year until 2032.
4. Progress is being made on restoring Oregon Rail & Navigation 197 to operation in Portland, Oregon
New news!
- The Richmond-Raleigh higher speed line just broke down, roughly a week ago. Maybe make a separate video on that?
- PennDOT and NJDOT working together for resoring an abandoned 1940s line (Lackawanna Cutoff) for both Amtrak and NJT, going from Scranton, PA to New York City.
-The D.O.T is investigating a possible future long distance line, going from Dallas all the way to New York City, via a freight line, the Keystone Corridor, and finally, the Northeast corridor.
MARTA Stadler METRO CQ400 trains are also currently under assembly
While I like that VIA is dipping their toes in the water for Heritage trainsets, my only gripe is how low effort the current one is, the real turbotrain was yellow and blue, not yellow and black like the heritage unit, it seems all VIA did was remove the other colors in their current livery...
Canning congestion pricing was a stupid decision, and I don't see Hochul staying governor of New York after this.
do u live in the nyc metro area? if no then don't complain about congestion pricing not going into effect, it was a cheap cash grab by the mta. they could get the $ from other sources and most people with a brain capable of complex thought opposed congestion pricing.
@@beynickiana
I don’t think you realize… Congestion pricing would bring MTA back to world standards, but without it then they wouldn’t be able to do all the upgrades mentioned in the video (1:38)
@@awesomeman116a I don't think you realize but there are a lot of people whose only option is driving for a variety of reasons, such as affordability. In upstate ny for example, its so car dependent the only way to get around is by car, and if someone has a doctor appointment in nyc, they might not be able to afford a train ticket or subway ticket. in addition, if the only place they can work is in nyc, then the cost of the subway adds up and becomes unaffordable. and if u don't live in nyc metro area then stop complaining about it bc it doesnt affect you, but it does affect me.
@@beynickianathis might be unpopular but people from outside the city don't have a god given right to be able to drive into the city. If you can't afford the subway, I'm not sure how you'd afford the gas in your car anyway.
@@noggin6870 and people from outside of the city don't have a god given requirement to pay for things that they won't use
Great to see another episode! Thanks for covering the many heritage unit updates, and I wasn't aware that the last single level cab car was retired already. I feel such an event should have got at least some sort of media coverage seeing how iconic they are to the Boston region. Also, Congestion Pricing being paysed indefinitely and its implications is just too depressing for me to go in depth about, since I personally will be affected by the many projects that will also be paused as a result. Likewise, it is one of the worst decisions that a city could make, since it not only directly affects everyone in the greater NY area for the worst, but it also sets a bad example for other cities looking to implement something similar, all because Kongestion Kathy felt pressured by a loud voice from a small number of suburbanites who inhaled so much car fumes that they don't realize that taking public transit is the better way to go.
There are so many vandalized locos on Csx now NS
Honesty , SEPTA should take Caltran's lead and buy some Staddler KISS EMUs to replace the Silverliners. They'd be a perfect fit for us here in Philly!
I was saying the exact same thing to my friend!
Also this month: The Utah Transit Authority officially revealed plans to extend the FrontRunner from the current southern terminus of Provo, Utah, to Payson Utah, with stations in Springville and Spanish Fork. UTA was gven the land for this expansion years ago.
3:15 - Wabtec should design a FLXdrive MPXpress series (such as the “MP60ACI”) for Metra and Metrolink
YESSSS
Since CRRC already built a few cars that were originally for SEPTA, could we see CRRC give those to exo?
Les go. New episode
2:21 it's the a team
904 is heading to NHN for rebuild, from what I was told, NHN wants to use it for cabs
I am furious about congestion pricing getting canceled. It will have bad effects across the whole city and it would have made my life way better. You'll be mad at first but then get used to it. New York is not meant to be driven into.
Just saw a news story that the MBTA is planning to buy electric train sets! Unconfirmed which line though.
1:21 oh cool theres also 3173 alother ES44AH
Just for future reference, Hochul is pronounced Hoh-Kuhl
2:50 I wonder if after a year they will paint her in phase VII

So metro north’s sc42 order are suspended
@@jeffreysrailfanning2817 No, luckily not. It’s unlikely however that the state will be ordering any new locomotives for LIRR or rail cars for either Metro-North or LIRR any time soon
They still gonna ordering the R262/As open and close ways for the A devisins iRT lines and the M9AS for metro North and the R211As Ts/S for Staten Island railways and finishing up the second Ave subway to East Harlem and west side 125 and 137 to connecting to the 1 Broadway line. Rebuilding the brand new Thrid Avenue Elevated line in the south Bronx Tremont Webster Boston road Bronx. Never rebuild another elevated line in Manhattan again on Thrid Avenue.
@@leecornwell5632 I thought metro north dropped out of the m9 contract I saw it on a website that metro north dropped out
@@jeffreysrailfanning2817 it's still coming because they had placed 249 cars for the M9AS for metro North. You know that COVID 19 had through everything off The M3AS is not gonna last forever. However the M9S for the Long Island railroad is complete d.

Sorta glad the congestion thing didn't go through since that would have drove up prices of goods in the city
It was for funding for transit i think nyc would of survived
Only in Manhattan CBD. You would get used to it.
@@transitimprover does it apply to all vehicles? Or just cars?
@@daveshockwave8098 it applied to all vehicles, but the benefits outweighed the cons the continuation of the second ave subway project basically depended on congestion pricing as a means of funding now who knows what'll happen to it
@ant8504 ok, I don't support it if if applied to all vehicles. Mainly because small businesses still have to get goods in, and if the bill passed, it would drive prices way up
I know a lot of the "urbanist" community online has been up in arms over the failure of congestion pricing, but it is a genuine minoritarian position here. two thirds of New Yorkers oppose it and if they put it on the ballot I'm sure it'll fail. The MTA is rather horribly run due to numerous factors (austerity being a big one). But people have to stop overlooking the A. general incompetence of the MTA management (not even gonna get into the work culture in the lower echelons) and B. the hundreds of millions lost to far evasion. Seriously, the DeBlasio years have been a disaster in terms of civic function and social cohesion, activists insisting these are issues of "poverty" and not anti social behavior being incentivized by lax policing have warped "urbanists" views. I've been abroad, most well functioning mass transit systems do not tolerate the kind of rot that exists in the MTA. We're an embarrassment.
Fare evasion is not the issue but it's the issue the police and far right politicians want you to think is most important in New York. It's why the budget for police presence increased and you see 30 cops on a platform at a time. Wealthy elites had complained about congestion pricing and the pressures from lobbyists likely caused Hochul to reverse course.
Congestion pricing is just wealth redistribution. Not just speaking toward new york but, in general it feels rather handsy when it comes to the pocket book. A little tooooo socialist
Every major city in a western country on the planet, outside of North America ofc, does this. There is no other way to fund transit project atm, and this would be a great way to do so without further raising ticket prices or taxes. That and ppl who drive in do so at less cost to them than it costs the cities economy and infrastructure
why are yall acting like congestion pricing is a good thing??? yea it would've been good for public transit but in upstate ny and other parts of the nyc metro area its very car dependent and a lot of people can't afford a train ticket or a subway ticket and driving is the only way they can get around and do u live in the nyc metro area? if no, then don't complain about a bad thing not going into effect.
it is a good thing because it reduces cars and co2 emissions generated from cars
also 2.90 is by no way unaffordable if you own a car
@@beynickiana only 2% of NYC Outer Borough residents under the poverty line actually drive to Manhattan destinations for their commute
as to places further out, as an example, off-peak Metro North from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central is $20. If they "can't afford" that, how would they afford the $45+ in depreciation driving the same distance?
@@CaradhrasAiguo49exactly because owning a car is expensive and inefficient space as well
Nobody ever proposed congestion pricing for upstate.
The main issue with congestion pricing imo is that there wasn't a way to stop businesses from passing it on to the consumer(afaik). Businesses have been doing that for years now, but it's gotten so much easier for them after COVID and the masses actually accepts it
