I wonder if the overall monthly cost is lower though without the high heating & taxes in Canada. Prices here have definitely increased along with anything else you have to pay for. We were paying $300. month for Groceries from Walmart & Superstore in 2022 now we are paying at least $400. (Nov. 2023)
The monthly cost of living could end up being lower without heating and tax costs (if your a Costa Rica resident or buy a house you would pay taxes but we are not certain the rates). It would really depend on whether you are renting or buying, which area you choose to live in, is electricity included (and how much A/C you use). We have found that services and labor are more affordable. The biggest factor is turely where your coming from and what the costs are there, for example the cost of living in Toronto is very different than a rural town in Canada. In Costa Rica there is a 14% tax included on the prices you see on the shelf.
I have been here in Costa Rica almost 3 months and my mind still hasn't adjusted to these high price of groceries regardless of which places I shop. I love it here, but, I can't convince myself the beauty of Manuel Antonio, CR, for me is worth living here on a permanent basis, though, I have gone back and forth on that thought till the next time I enter the stores, then it's like, no, can't do it. Arizona has nothing on CR when it comes to the high cost of groceries and other goods, local or not. I can tell you the moderately and especially the lower paid locals are truly struggling to make ends meet. Still Pura Vida!
Yes Costa Rica us beautiful, but expensive. Tourism over the past 10-15 years has really caused prices to sore and sadly this really effects locals, especially those that live in high tourism areas.
For this reason we rarely buy anything imported. It is fun to try all the local brands of things we have back home and of course just trying new kinds of food.
We still living in Nicaragua but have been travelling and camping in Costa Rica for 3 months and then living in San Jose Costa Rica for the past few months because the Nicaragua border was closed to pets (its open now). Due to this we had to put our car in government storage for 3 months, that is why we are in San Jose. Soon we will be back to travelling and back to Nicaragua.
Good info but couldn’t read half of the texts either bc the print didn’t show up over the colors of the background or bc I couldn’t read it fast enough Also the end where you sum up the comparison is confusing you mention Canada then US then Costa Rica and it was difficult to understand which figures reflected your explanations I live in Baja. Grocery prices are even higher!! I feel bad for the locals. All this inflation in their countries is due to expats ,typically more wealthy than they are, moving into their country and businesses taking advantage of their spending power
It's frustrating to speak with people in the US or Mexico regarding grocery prices. Moved back to CR in 2016, and found out my average grocery bag in Scandinavia was way cheaper. Ten years before CR was still much cheaper.
Yeah grocery prices have gotten so expensive. While groceries in Costa Rica were no deal we did find other things like rent and services to be well priced.
No,its not cheap, but as always, know where to buy !. Great information!
Thanks...it is absolutely different compared to Nicaragua!
@@ChrisTovahsAmazingAdventures yes indeed!

The local items are topically less expensive. Good video
