Hello! Please help me. It is November 2024, I am a 5th year medical student (MD, European Union). After finishing my 6th year in 2026, I want to get an internship in Britain right away. What should I enter in the search? Just ST1? And how should the registration be done for me? When do I need to pass the IELTS, when the SJT and when do I need to upload documents to the ORIЕL?
You need 2 years clinical experience including internship + full GMC registration by the start date of training to be eligible for ST1, so this is not the right level for you. If you have only internship experience then you can apply for FY2 standalone and there is an SJT as part of the application. If you haven't done an internship and want to do the full foundation programme in the UK, then there is no SJT for this anymore. Please search UKFPO Foundation programme for details
That depends when you opened your account. Try logging in, select the Medical and Public health option as shown in the video and search for the ST1/CT1 vacancies as shown. If you cannot see them you may need a new account.
Thank you..this video is really helpful...could you clarify.. how to check the criteria for a particular speciality on oriel e.g. criteria i need to fulfill for Obstetrics and Gynaecology??
Read the person specification for each specialty you are interested in. These are available via the HEE website, and also usually linked in information on each vacancy in Oriel
You will need full GMC registration+ 2 years clinical experience by the start date of training for any ST1/CT1 training post. MSRA is not a standalone exam you can just sit, you will need to meet the eligibility criteria for specialty training in one of the specialties that uses it, (including English language )submit an application and be longlisted before getting an invite to sit the MSRA.
Thank you for making such an informative video. I am an IMG and i have been working in the NHS for the last two years. Do i need to prove English proficiency ?
if I work as a teaching demonstrator now and till the start of the gp training but already hade the 2 clinical year of expertise would that affect my application ?
If we are applying for Emergency medicine training, The CREST form can be signed by any UK recognised Consultant or only Emergency medicine consultant can sign it?
There is no limit. You can apply for any that you meet the eligibility criteria for. You will need to complete a separate application for each specialty, and different specialties have different person specifications / recruitment processes.
That depends when you opened your account. Try logging in, select the Medical and Public health option as shown in the video and search for the ST1/CT1 vacancies as shown. If you cannot see them you may need a new account.
Do we need GMC to access the oriel online application ? If I am applying to gmc through overseas qualification and did not have gmc in november but will have it by march (before the start of the training post) Will i still be able to apply?? Many thanks!!
Hi,i just finished my msc in public health and health promotion in UK.and i dont really get the meaning of ST 1,2,3etc. I just want to get specialty training in public health inorder to get the professional registration number Please enlightened me
ST1 is the 1st year of specialty training. You can read about the requirements and process for public health training at medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-training-recruitment/medical-specialty-training/public-health/recruitment-information/overview-of-recruitment-information If applying as a clinician, you would need full GMC registration by completing PLAB or an acceptable postgraduate qualification like MRCP. Your MSc will not provide GMC registration.
how to enter the internship details, like we have to enter all the postings ? Do we have to enter only last 3 years of employment history?? Pls make a video on how to fill the GPST1 APPLICATION FORM !
You enter each rotation separately. All employment history since internship must be entered. How to complete the whole application step by step is covered in detail (as well as how to get through the whole process)in the Getting into GP training step by step course. You can see details and subscribe for instant access at www.emedica.co.uk/gp
MRCP is not required to apply for ST1 / CT1 level jobs. Each specialty has its own eligibility - please check the person specification for the specialty you are interested in
Thanks so much! So simple but much needed! :D
Glad it helped!

Does having a clinical gap of 1.5-2yrs reduce your chances of being longlisted?
Not if you meet the eligibility criteria.
