How to Calculate Earthwork Quantity of Highway | Subgrade Quantity Calculation | Civil Construction

Earthwork quantity calculation has not been an easy task for everybody, due to lack of knowledge we are not able to calculate it. but it is a very easy task if we apply some simple mathematics, and we will adopt "Mean Area Method" to calculate quantity of earthwork, as it is easy to apply to any type of section. For this, we need a slope calculation to calculate bottom width and formula for area of triangle and rectangle. First we will calculate the top layer and bottom layer levels difference of each section, after we find the height we will calculate slope distance for every section on both two sides, after calculating slope width we will now calculate the area of each section with the help of trapezoidal area formula, or triangle and rectangle area formula. after finding the area of each section, now we will add all this sectional area and then we will find the average of this areas (which we call as "mean"), after calculation of mean area we will multiply it by total length which will give us the required quantity. So how easy was it. in same way we can calculate the area of filling and cutting, in most of the cases there are both cutting and filling, so all these has to be calculated separately and added together to get the total quantity.
