I believe Gawith Hoggarth and Samuel Gawith use predominantly African Flue Cured Virginias. A lot of the old British blends did. It was called Empire leaf and was encouraged by the British government for obvious reasons. Some of the old blends offered a regular version with American Virginias and an Empire blend with the Rhodesian tobaccos. I think after awhile the African leaf became the predominant source.
