- Will there be any change to Sri Lanka’s foreign policy? Will the island nation’s ties with India and China see sweeping changes? What happens to the Hambantota port project? What are the immediate priorities of the new Sri Lankan President? What does he have to say about allegations of authoritarianism against him? Will he carry minorities along? Our great leader.
President, you should have taken an interpreter for this discussion
We can all agree, he is not your typical cookie-cutter politician, and I feel he can get things done. I agree he should renegotiate the port deal with China and should keep them at arm's length. A giving a 99-year lease is the colossal mistake of the 21st Century. Also, Mr. Rajapaksa as the President should not marginalize, Tamils or the Muslim population; please remember, they are not going anywhere!
When the country was called Ceylon and English was the official language, we had a very inclusive Civil Service sector where Tamils and Muslims played an important role in the country. Now it is no longer there. Sri Lanka needs a model similar to Singapore, but with a democratic bend, where everyone has a chance for advancement. The name change, from Ceylon to Sri Lanka and making Sinhala the official language was a mistake, for that, the country paid a hefty price. Time for a fresh start !!!
I hope the president of india dont do anything for that china that will go against indua
He calling china his friend but when sri Lanka wil be in economic trouble they would expect india to bail out them just like india had to help madives economically after chinese dept trap of maldives
@Blogger Ash
Only 15% of SL's external debt is from China. This vastly over exaggerated by debt trap branding by the west .
