How classy to credit your student coming up with the currency exchange model. Sammy is a fantastic educator. Love this channel!

I had a great biology teacher, she was only marginally more unsuccesful in teaching me this one. This is a serious step up from previous episodes.

Watched crash course videos from when I was in high school, through bachelors of science in undergrad, then through postgrad medical school and now here I am, back again for my ICU exams. thanks crash course !

Ah yes, I remember having to stand up in front of my biochemistry professor, Dr Robert boyd, and explain in detail the citric acid cycle. He was the chemistry department chair, and he was a brilliant researcher. I learned a lot from him.

That "currency exchange" seems like it starts with wood and cotton and manufactures the whole bill rather than just exchange one currency for another. I love the metaphors and allegories you came up with.

So, ATP is not very energy dense, if the energy of a single glucose molecule can make 30 ATP molecules. 🤔

🔬 10 million ATP particles are made every second...
🔹 if you take the reciprocal...that means ...
🔬 1 molecule is made every 100 nano seconds...
    ⚡ that's lightning fast ⚡

12:35 But 10M ATP molecules... ok, but
    1) how many ATP molecules does the cell need per second?
    2) Or does it vary depending on the type of cell?
    3) Do some cells produce (and use) more ATP than others?
    4) Does the number of ATP produced and used vary throughout the day?
    5) Does the number of ATP produced and used vary during different activities (eg: thinking vs doing sports vs dreaming)?
This gave me more questions ...
