Thanks Kelly. Such an important reminder about packing 'new items'. But, also about the odours that can be packed into a shoebox and/or how some items may contaminate soft fabrics. Two years ago, my first box at the Processing Centre smelt of moth balls (chemical pesticide) and another of cigarrette smoke. The smells were so pungent that even after airing these shoeoxes, they still could not be sent. As for TY Beanies, definetly need to be buyer / packer beware.

Horrible idea. Fragrance gets on everything, super strong smell that will not appeal to everyone when they open their box. Allergic reactions to dryer sheets is super common.
I use the wipes and the blow dryer in high but not directly to one specific spot for a long time because it will damage them. That kills dust mites. Another technique can be the soap with water and wipe or cloth softener with water and apply with a spray bottle before drying with the blow dryer. That definitely improves smell.
This is a very helpful video! I have contemplated buying beanie babies from FB marketplace but I am always concerned of their "like new" conditions. I may try it out now that I know this.
I'm glad you found an effective remedy, but yeah, I wouldn't order used or pre-owned toys, esp if I couldn't check them out in person first. I know some people store their stash in basements and unheated garages/sheds and aren't able to detect the odor. I've had a lot of things ruined in the past myself thinking plastic bins would suffice. TFS! Love your videos!
@@Jeannete-k9w The musty beanie babies in question were from an ebay order-not the collector friend, if I'm understanding correctly. In any case, if they smell musty they are not in new condition.
thanks for this info! helpful! i feel the beanies are fine if they are from a non smoking no pet no perfume home. i am picky - but i have a question for you....some of my younger grandkids have torn the tags off of my own beanies-they didnt know better. is it ok to send them without the heart tag? do the packers take the no-tagged beanies out of the box. some of my friends wonder the same thing - can we send untagged beanies in a showbox if clean and scent free? thanks and thanks for what you do and what you pass on.

If they are in new condition, they would be fine to send without the tags (especially since you owned them yourself and know their condition). 🩷 I sometimes take the larger tags off my stuffed animals that I buy in stores just so they pack nicer. People at the processing center won't take out the stuffed animals unless they're noticeably used or stained. I hope that's helpful! Thank you for watching ☺️
I had someone donate some that were in platic cases. Any with a tag, would automatically be considered new (unplayed wth)i by me. Children dont keave tags on toys. I store all of my stuffies in a tote with several dryer sheets. I wouldnt however want a collection from a house where there are smokers. I don't think this hank would work on the smoke smell.

I’ve used a similar method for old books etc ( not for use in shoeboxes) but included dryer sheets in the bags too.
