This German composer helped with the transition from courtly to bourgeois concert life.
His works - written in a gallant and sensitive style - with a warm tone still delight sensitive people today.
The composer Hertel said 21 years after his death: "He was a good contrapuntist and his quartets are still the best patterns of their kind".
Thank you for this beautiful performance and recording (unfortunately the always unavoidable coughing is part of live recordings).

Quick question. İs it my mislead eyes or what I see and hear is not a lute but rather an archlute? İt would also make more sense alternatively to a theorbo. To my ears the lute wouldn't work that good in the depicted ensemble.
Regardless, nice interpretation of one among several masterpieces of this unjustly forgotten master

Hi Pietro. It's a thirteen-course baroque lute with a swan-neck, such as S.L. Weiss played at Dresden, and E.G. Baron at Pottsdam. Mine has similar projection to an archlute, but a more delicate sound, and I often use it in lieu of an archlute when we perform German high baroque music.
