I was thinking Christmas story Wise men . . . Until John pointed out the obvious. It was a wonderful trip through Tennessee. I didn’t know about Wilma or the Loretta Lynn spot. Thanks for another informative video with pretty scenery.
That is real two lane blacktop travel beauty! And the beauty of that area just makes it even better. What a trip that would be up on two wheels! The beautiful old architecture kept up so well and the new filtered in to where they so well work together is so nice. And those two lanes weaving back and forth and up and down through the trees and the meadows and along the waterways is the kicker. Beautiful trip! Thanks for one swell of a ride.
From your video, it looks like the majority of this route is maintained and well kept - both the roads and cities/properties. Looks like a charming area to visit! Thank you for sharing!
That’s a beautiful part if the country, thanks for taking me along on the ride. I really enjoy your videos and commend you on the music in the background. It is always appropriate for the scenery. Well done! Good luck with track and field season.
These small towns are so charming - makes me think of and crave a simpler time and pace of life (so long as I can keep my internet). And the beautiful winter skies you've picked up in the last couple of videos - I"ll re-watch when it's 100 degrees and muggy here in Wichita. Thank you for sharing your travels with us!
Gosh I bet you could have spent a lot of time at that beautiful Wilma Rudolph museum. I would have loved reading the sidewalk. Of course all along that beautiful route were places that were so interesting. I always love when you take the back roads, you find so many interesting things, places, people on a dirt road. I can honestly say I've had far less trouble on dirt roads. Another great video dear. Always look forward to Sundays with the Wise man. Stay safe and GOD bless
What a cracking little film, thanks John, thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely area's, good roads and great weather. Interestingly, many of the larger (small) towns had close to their peak populations, must be a thriving area and people obviously like their locality. once again, great stuff, looking forward to our next episode!
Thank you! Yeah it was good to see they still had decent populations, but they were the county seats for the most part. Would be interesting to see about other non county seats in the same counties. Thank you!
My grandmother on my father's side was from Waverly Tn. I know Route 13 very well. It is amazing how smaller towns still look pretty much the same as they did 50 years ago when I was a kid staying at my grandmothers when she lived in McEwen. We always went to Waverly because two of her brothers had big farms down there off of 13. I spent a lot of time working around those farms. There used to be a little restaurant on the right going up the hill when leaving Waverly that many of the farmers and old timers would hang out at. My great uncles were always there. This video brings back so many good memories and some sad ones too. My best friends father was the crane operator lifting the derailed train cars back onto the tracks when the explosion happened. Rumor was the Fire Chief was smoking and that caused the explosion, but I don't know that as a fact. I just remember it was very cold with snow on the ground and large helicopters were flying over heading toward Waverly to assist with all the injured. Thank you sharing this video. I truly enjoyed it.
Neat adventure in Tennessee. Beautiful state with scenery & history. Route 13 was a beauty . Wonderful church sign. Appreciate your adventure and searching time on them. Thank you.
If I had some ruby slippers, I'd click my heels together and be transported to that beautiful part of our nation...and stay a few days. Where I live in SW Oklahoma, it is now 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Be good and safe coach Wise and keep aiming for the horizon! 🙏🏽
Wow, that's messed up brother! The terrain is very similar to WV, we are more mountainous is the only difference. Tennessee is much cleaner looking too. Nice ride a long👍
Beautiful country. Love Hurricane Mills. What a beautiful area. Noticed the Amish man at the end. Our nearest neighbors are an Amish couple who built a house in the field behind us. They just went off to church this morning. They have a very long driveway. We have a foot and a half of snow. Horse and buggy seem to work better than our car, which is snowed in! (Mid-Michigan) ☃
You picked a better part of the state to show folks who havent been to Tennessee, and easier. Tennessee is very unique, it is 3 states in 1, each with its own topography, Middle is my preferred, but I live in NW Tennessee, (long story), Dad was from TN, I was born in Chicago and had to move here as a child, age 5. I lived in Nevada 17 yrs, loved it!!! GO CUBS - GO!!!!!!!!! M8ddle Tennessee is really pretty part of the state, rolling hills and pastures.
Great video. I have traveled through TN and KY to get to Florida to see family. Getting ready to make the trip in February. But go down 24. I would love to travel TN and KY sometime to see that part of the country and just take my time. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe in your travels.
That's my kind of travel! If you find yourself in North Carolina, you should check out Route 158. It takes you east to Route 17 and the Great Dismal Swamp, and it goes through some of the neatest little towns.
love watching these type of vids(brit viewer)around the southern apalacians it must be the besr area in the whole of the states(god i wish youd drive on the right side of the road)keep thinkinmg your gonna go round a bend into a head on collision
Love seeing this. I grew up in St Bethlehem and currently live in Clarksville. Three of my kids graduated from Montgomery Central. Curious as to why you refer to some of these as ghost towns?
Thanks for watching! Ghost town has many definitions so it depends on which ones you’re referring to. The most broad definition is a town that’s a small fragment of what it used to be. The most specific is an abandoned town.
I wonder if you have traveled through the northern parts of North Dakota and Montana through back roads? I would be very much interested to hear and see what that country looks like. I have been been through those areas as a child in the early 60's as a child in the back seat of my dads car and plan to see it again as a grown man. thank you . I greatly enjoy watching them. Best Regards from Ody Slim
Would love to! I did a little in Montana on US 89 a few years ago starting at the Canadian border. I drove up to Minot as well but didn’t do a ton on the backroads. Hopefully someday!
You missed the oldest house in Montgomery county. And probably one of the oldest in the state right there in Cunningham TN. The home was finished building in 1790 and is still in perfect condition.
Do you ride? Looks like your really missing out on some nice motorcycle routes. Quite a few of your videos from the windshield perspective look pretty inviting.
I’ve never been a motorcycle guy - but you’re right I’m sure they are awesome rides! I’ve always lived vicariously through my brother who has done those rides all over the country 😊 With all the equipment I take it’s easier to have a vehicle.
This ride would definitely be a wonderful easy cruise up on two! And all those inviting towns and beautiful scenes would be great hop offs. It looks to be inviting enough to cause one to ride it both ways. I think that I will not start out today with our balmy -12 degree temperature!
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Hwy 13 go around Linden to the east? I definitely wanted to show the town of Linden and had to get off 13 to do that.
@TravelwithaWiseguy you are correct....I was just stating that the middle of linden is not on hwy 13. No harm on your side for showing the town center. It just wasn't stated like any other time you got off hwy 13. I apologize for being snarky in the original comment.
Wise men still seek him, that’s a awesome way to wrap up the video 🤓& the absolute truth, thanks for taking me along, be safe
I was thinking Christmas story Wise men . . . Until John pointed out the obvious. It was a wonderful trip through Tennessee. I didn’t know about Wilma or the Loretta Lynn spot. Thanks for another informative video with pretty scenery.

Great observations and I couldn’t agree more! I got lucky on this one 😊
From your video, it looks like the majority of this route is maintained and well kept - both the roads and cities/properties. Looks like a charming area to visit! Thank you for sharing!
Yes the roads were very good except for when I went on Old 13, but those weren’t too bad either. It was a fun trip!
That’s a beautiful part if the country, thanks for taking me along on the ride. I really enjoy your videos and commend you on the music in the background. It is always appropriate for the scenery. Well done! Good luck with track and field season.

I agree and agree with the internet comment too 😂😂
We get off the exit from I40 and go right by Loretta Lynn's place on our way to Clarksville all the time. Beautiful just beautiful

Yeah I spent a lot of time in Clarksville - thats why it got dark on me by the end 😂😂 Love the dirt roads myself too. Thank you!

Hey Coach. The end of the film in twilight was a nice touch. That cat in the out take, must have led a rough life.
Thank you! If that cat could talk!
That's some beautiful country. You picked a great route. Thank you for sharing.
It really is! Got lucky on this trip!!
Very nice video (seriously). Goodness, really nice area there. Thank you for posting, be good, be safe !!
Thank you very much! It was a fun day!!
I love the cat at the end. They were sweet. :)
😊
Neat adventure in Tennessee. Beautiful state with scenery & history. Route 13 was a beauty . Wonderful church sign. Appreciate your adventure and searching time on them. Thank you.
This was a fun random road trip! Very nice way to spend the day :)
If I had some ruby slippers, I'd click my heels together and be transported to that beautiful part of our nation...and stay a few days. Where I live in SW Oklahoma, it is now 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
Be good and safe coach Wise and keep aiming for the horizon! 🙏🏽
We have you beat here in Kansas, we are now -9 degrees 😼
Stay warm everybody!!
This was a real interesting adventure Hurricane Hill’s is a pretty neat little town. Thanks for sharing travel safe
Hurricane Mills was definitely one of the highlights! It was a beautiful and interesting drive!
My brother lives in Clarksville. Go there a few times a year. Beautiful scenery
It sure is! I’d like to go back and spend more time!
Wow, that's messed up brother! The terrain is very similar to WV, we are more mountainous is the only difference.
Tennessee is much cleaner looking too.
Nice ride a long👍
Thanks! I’ve been through WV several times and it’s beautiful too! Hopefully someday I’ll get it on film 😊

It’s a nice drive for sure! I’ve gone a couple different ways but usually speed past. Glad I went 13 this time 😊
BTW, the area of Tennessee by Muscle Shoals, Alabama is a neat visit, and all around the Alabama side too. Great Music History there.
Very cool! 😎
Very neat road trip. Beautiful countryside. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to explore!
I've lived in Nashville most of my life and never seen some of these cities. Thank you for this wonderful video, I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a great drive!
Great trip , I especially liked hurricane mills story. See you next week
Thanks, you too!
Thank you for another great trip on the 13 through Tennessee ❣️
It was fun thanks!
I really enjoy it when you take off on the old highway when you travel around. Thank you 💕
Aww thanks 😊 It’s a lot of fun for me too!!
WHILE IN THE AREA, DO THE NATCHEZ TRACE!!
Like I mentioned in the video, maybe next time!
Let it roll down the highway 🛣 13#😊
❤️ 🚗
Love that mill in Hurricane Mills. Very cool!
Beautiful 🤩
I was on the Natchez Parkway in Mississippi few years back. Very scenic, but restricted speed limit road.
That's my kind of travel! If you find yourself in North Carolina, you should check out Route 158. It takes you east to Route 17 and the Great Dismal Swamp, and it goes through some of the neatest little towns.
Thanks for the suggestion! Would love to someday!
Coming from LA to TN in Clarksville I get somewhat surprised when it's brought up. 13 is right by me, my sister lives right off it in Cunningham.
Very interesting thank you
Very welcome! I had fun!
Montgomery Central High School looks like the Legion of Doom headquarters from the Super Friends cartoon!
Haha yes it does 😂
Nice video, I noticed Anderson Cemetery , that is my maiden name...... tag along 71 (yr old) 😎
That was at Loretta Lynn’s property!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I am an Ohio gal 😎
I didn’t know about Waverly coming from Scott’s novels. I wonder if Waverly KS has the same name history?
Apparently Waverly KS was named after Waverly, Indiana. And apparently that town was named after the novels. Interesting!
love watching these type of vids(brit viewer)around the southern apalacians it must be the besr area in the whole of the states(god i wish youd drive on the right side of the road)keep thinkinmg your gonna go round a bend into a head on collision
Haha that’s how I felt when I drove in New Zealand 😂😂 thanks for watching from across the pond!
What a interesting area John. Question for a professional. Do you think Wilma's height contributed to her success? She must have had a long stride.
Absolutely! Her long legs were definitely an advantage- especially in the 200m. 100m not as much so.
Love seeing this. I grew up in St Bethlehem and currently live in Clarksville. Three of my kids graduated from Montgomery Central. Curious as to why you refer to some of these as ghost towns?

OMG. I haven't seen an ESSO in the states. We always got gas at them in Germany.
Nice! Yeah I haven’t seen very many either.
From the town with the old esso sign...with in the last 5 years or so, they redid the building to look like it did in the 40's/50's
Wilma Rudolph overcame childhood polio to become an Olympic gold medal runner.
If you do Tennessee again, add LaGrange to your list. Trust me.
Will keep it in mind! Thank you!
Must be an Amish settlement in that area.
Great job showing none of hwy13 in linden...but hopping on hwy 412 to make sure it was "pretty"

I farted in the Shilo church holy water
Natchez- Punchbowl., and Natchez- Trace has sonre really dark and violent history in that part of Tennessee.
I bet!!
