Cool series! I had the idea to do something similar years ago but never did it. Good on you for getting off your butt and making it happen (unlike me)!
I've sold 5 of these for $50.00 each. No stain or paint. Just plain pine, sanded. I did pocket holes and glue. I also moved the shelf up so a swiffer or vacuum can get under the bench. Pretty Decent for January sales. Not quite 50% profit, but brings in some cash. I think $100.00 is a bit of a stretch, no matter what you do to it, at least around my area.
I like the video and your concept of a chanel sounds good. I'm in the Phoenix Arizona area and I can make two benches like this with the same plans from the fish over chicks chanel with lumber from Home Depot costing less than $60.00. I would suggest giving options like in addition to stain offering paint like white legs and red seats or any color customer may want. Also offering just the raw wood to let the customer paint or stain the bench. Make one of each and show all three in different pictures with a different one up front and the others in the near back ground. This way the customer can see all your options. ONE MORE THING I might suggest is putting a skirt/apron from leg to leg to stop racking of the bench.
This just came across my feed while scrolling other woodworkers. I like a couple of the accounts you showed and follow them, Fish Over Chicks and Who’s the Voss. This series should be really interesting! New follower- I gotta see how you do 👍
Your bench came out very nice. The roundovers are definitely a nice touch. Maybe add a small chamfer on the bottom of the legs to prevent chip-out from sliding the bench around. As for selling on FB, it's a crap shoot. In larger metropolitan areas, it's more like a flea market, or garage sale, and people don't want to pay more than a few bucks for something that somebody made. Is your price $100 for 2 of them, or just one? I sell bird and squirrel feeders and could never sell anything on FB or OfferUp. I switched to Etsy and never looked back. I understand a bench like yours would cost a lot to ship, which could turn off buyers. The point is, find another outlet like craft fairs or a pop-up market. I like your concept of reviewing builds. It helps others to see how easy something is to make or whether there was a pitfall that the original builder didn't mention (or glossed over). As long as you keep it educational rather than an attack on the original builder, I think it's a great way to show how attainable projects can be. New subscriber here and I look forward to more of your videos.
Thank you for the feedback and tips. My next build is going up on Etsy since its a smaller item. I have no intent or desire to attack other builders. I want others to go watch those builders videos and support them. I purely want to show that you can build these items in your backyard with minimal skills and tools. Hopefully inspiring others to go create something. Watching other creators and seeing these beautiful shops with all Festool can make you think this is outside of their capability to build it.
I have a video on my channel where I make one that was inspired by a "Nelson" bench but has the same geometry at the classic one you built. It didn't sell either and I show how it can be used for many purposes. Plus, I am super skeptical about how much people on YT sell their products for. Also, look to see if they are actually selling these items or they are just comparing them to prices they see on Etsy at any given time. Prices are always changing on that site. Otherwise, it came out great! If they don't sell, they are great gifts or you just have some cool furniture for yourself! Nice job, you gained a Subscriber!
I'm going to call bullshit on this entire series. You don't even have a workshop, you are building shit on a piece of plywood on top of 2 sawhorses in your poorly tended backyard. What makes you this "authority" on the topic that makes you think your opinion is valid?
What makes anyone an authority on anything? It's not like most UA-cam woodworkers have advanced degrees in traditional joinery with certifications from nationally recognized governing bodies. This guy is doing a cool thing and giving his opinion on it. You're welcome to make a competing video series if you think you can do it better. If you don't like what he's doing, just don't watch. In a world full of talkers, doers need to stick together and build each other up so we can drown out the incoherent babblings of negativity from people like @RuffStuff420.
I've seen videos from several other people doing this same exact bench on their porch. The point of the original video was it's a simple project that uses very few tools and can get your woodworking journey started. Not everyone comes from a carpentry background and has all the tools and workshops to start
I'm going to call bullshit on your comment. You don't even have your own UA-cam channel. What makes you this "authority" on the topic that makes you think your opinion is valid?
I built one a couple of weeks ago. People love it. It is an interior entry way bench. Market it that way.
That's a great idea, I'm going to build one for my entry way.
@@AwlWoodWorking or mudroom for winter shoe change with small storage underneath?
That's a good idea and use the bottom part to store house shoes.
@@AwlWoodWorking yep. especially for winter time.
@@AwlWoodWorking or even maybe at the end of a kids bed as a kids dressing seat.

Thanks bro :) it's never too late.

Nice! I lowered the price to 75 and still no interest. At that price I'll just keep it.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I got another EP in the works.
I love this concept! Subbed

Can’t wait to see more! Greetings from New Mexico
Hey neighbor, thank you!
@ I was thinking of making a similar series good luck on your journey

Nice job on the build and video. Looking forward to watching the others.
🙏 thanks, I've already started filming the next couple videos.
Try marketing/staging it as an indoor product, like an entryway bench or end of bed ❤
That's a great idea, thanks
List it as a sofa table and not a bench
I can only imagine how many dents you have left on this pine knocking it with your ring while talking😂 I get it, you're a noobie, but dude IT'S pine!
Lol, I now have a silicone ring.
Is the dog for sale?
Not my 🐕
lol wood.
