Sounding awesome! At 0:56 he says he loves the color of it. I don’t think he’s referring to the sound as translated in the French legend, but to the actual lacquer color.
"maybe if we get chris potter to play it people will start spending 10k+ on our instrument"
Well, I understand that they’re selling as many as they can make.
People already spend that much on a mark 6
Exactly 😅
People already pay more than that for VIs and SBAs so
@@brycebaliko7050 not true , even in Paris France you can get a mk6 under 10 000
You can sell more if you brought the price down to reality☮️🎵🎶🎷
Well that’s with anything.
Chris Potter my favorite Saxophone Player is the best I want that Selmer Supreme Tenor
Selmer rocks! This tenor player won’t be rushing out anytime soon to buy the awesome Supreme because my Reference 54-that I purchased new-plays so otherworldly. If my Reference is ever stolen or lost, I would not hesitate to buy the latest and greatest Selmer because they reign “supreme” in the world of saxophones. Price is no object if the instrument plays the music I hear in my head. That is all.
I got to try one the other day. I didn't sound like that. ;-)
(Seriously, though, great horn.)
I wished I could send Chris Potter the sound of my MarkVI
Obviously Chris sounds beautiful on this thing. But the thing about Chris is he would sound the exact same on ANY saxophone. The sound comes from the player, not the gear. The saxophone itself has very little impact on a person's sound, with mouthpiece and reed having the most impact. I'm sure the supreme sounds incredible, but it's nowhere near good enough to warrant spending $16K CAD
You are 100% correct .
Selma Sax are massively overrated .
Said Selma Rep 😂
Re sound of instruments vs the player ........ I have had my 5 digit Selmer Mk6 alto for 49 years - it happened to be simply "a good 2nd hand sax" back then, the mystique hadn't built up around it - but out of interest I recently I tried the Selmer Supreme alto and was able to do a direct A-B test for a couple of hours. What was very apparent were the ergonomics; the key layout is so much better. I have a good sound on my alto, and I can honestly say that there is a very discernable difference in sound between the two instruments. I think that will be partly due to how the sax is set up, of course, and yes, I still sounded like me, but "different". So, I do not think that Chris Potter would sound the exact same on ANY saxophone.
To reinforce this point..... Earlier this week I took my Reference 36 tenor to a concert for my friend to try (and he's a top level pro player, way, way better than me). He was using a Mk7 tenor with a dark Jody Jazz mp, and in the interval he did the A-B comparison. The difference was massive. His sound on the Ref 36 was fuller, bigger, broader, and he got a huge sound down the bottom end. I'm not talking about volume here, just tone/sound quality. Anyway, it might have confirmed his intent to get a 1936 Selmer SBA or a 2nd hand Reference 36
What mouthpiece is he using there?
I sure would like to try one. Not that I wouldn’t just buy one if I could afford to. And a sopranino as well… for good measure… 😊
I wonder if he'll give up his SBA now?
That's all I could think throughout watching this. Did he get a new voice or did he get a REALLY good backup horn to take with him?
Unlikely considering that SBA of his used to be Michael Brecker's
He plays a 104 mark 6 alot now
do you know what mp he's playing on?@@veeps1817
Wilson Eric Jones John Martinez Richard
Be very clear, it isn’t the horn which is the reason it sounds good. A great player still sounds like himself on nearly any functioning horn.
Too much expensive i prefer the yam 62 only 3000€
@ytinf1090 and it's a joke 😃
I don’t think any horn is worth the price they want.
Yamaha 82 Z Custom звучит гораздо объёмнее и у неё больше гармоник
You got to be joking?? A Yamahahaha??
Must be great to be Chris Potter... get invited to the factory, make a two minute video, get a free horn
Nothing to say about the instrument, but the price. I can get a five digit here in Italy american engraved for 6.000 euros and i should spend for something less 12.000? Bring prices to reality!
“I love the color”
For me this is the first new Selmer tenor with a great tone for jazz, that Selmer have produced over the last 50 years. It's a great choice for cats doing ten thousand dollar jazz gigs.
You can get better horns than this without spending 10 Gs
The sound, to me, sounds too straight with no bottom. If that could be fixed it would be amazing.
Very good, Chris potter!
It’s obviously a great horn, but I wonder if he would have said the same if he had no clue about what horn he was testing?
‘It’s very very good’ not sure that’s enough for me to want one 😂
I heard the latest Eastman T 54 has a beautiful well well-balanced sound. check it out!
I hope you were well compensated for this promo, because I have to say I like your sound better on your older horns 🎷🎷🎷
Chris is awesome, but if you think this sounds anywhere close to him on a VI or SBA man, c'mon, no sizzle, upper register is very refined, very nice, F that, we want the smoke, that 'I might be in tune, or you might have to fight me for it' feel the VI's give, that tonal landscape to do what you want, lost in today's mass produced, you pay a premium but we try to make em as cheap as possible horns, I don't know where it went, but NO ONE has been able to recapture it, I don't think they ever will be able to.
Great horn but I still love the sound of the VI. God bless you. Bill. Uk
I just got my Selmer on sale, it's not a Supreme, but if you get a chance to get one new, do it!!!! just like Chris said, when you lay into it, to barks and does not let up. Just try Low Bb.....and the intonation is perfect. Thank you Selmer.
Living legend 💕👌
Chris would sound just as good on a Bundy!
Monsieur Selmer,si tu as du stock en trop,je suis là 😘
Gran sonido!!!!
Selmer is overrated
I went to elementary through high school one grade behind Chris. He wss always an amazing player. So glad he has had such success, well deserved!
Get over it selmer...nothing will ever beat a vintage VI or BA/SBA
But he really plays a vintage horn. !!! good try , Selmer
Sounds pretty dry to me, but the color does look good
svp : quel bec et ouverture / anche et force il joue ?
I just like hearing you play, Chris!
Siiiiii🔥
❤
anyone know what song he was play at start
