    I am not a war monger, but this pilot is a shining example of the RCAF. Intelligent, well-informed, courageous and capable. I salute you sir !

    It is so reassuring to know we have armed forces officers as intelligent and clear thinking as this man.

    This interview brings tears to my eyes. These men and women are incredibly brave. We can live our comfortable social media lives while they are fighting the real fight.

    Put aside the politics of the situation for second and fully comprehend that the individuals who actually go and do the fighting are NEVER the ones who CHOOSE where or who their country decides to enter into combat against. There is absolutely NONE of the arrogance and absolutism that many other combatants have in this Canadian pilot. What we lack in size in our military we MORE than compensate for with QUALITY. This gentleman is a credit to our entire nation. Whether you agree or disagree with the mission. And as for the religion of peace...oh ya...peaceful as long as we subscribe to your views if not...death to the infidel...THAT is really a peaceful religion...ALL religion is harmful...the benefits are FAR overshadowed by the centuries of pain and misery perpetuated in there names. Give up the child hood myths and grow up.

      That's sounds a lot like what poor countries face when against western imperialism: subscribe to our western views (i.e. democracy) or death!
      Soldiers are not brainless machines. Of course they have a choice - if they disagree, they can desert the army (and probably face prosecution). Many American soldiers chose to go to jail instead of wars they disagreed with.
      Nothing more lame and hypocritical than saying the soldiers don't have a choice.. as if they are just brainless robots who can't think.
      Their choice is pretty clear: 1) pull the trigger, or; 2) lose your job and go to jail. Most choose to pull the trigger.

    From 40 years of being in it. I am rather appalled by this kind of perspective, from a senior Air Force individual. What exactly did he think a fighter a/c does?

    It seems our armed forces are as "Canadian as possible under the circumstances", which makes me happy. I am disappointed that CBC didn't ask about civilian casualties and the effect of bombing on the civilian population.

    • @yxeaviationphotog
      @yxeaviationphotog 5 років тому +4

      Why would that matter? What do you expect to hear? None of these pilots relish the fact that they may be taking lives. They do everything in their power to not inflict civilian casualties, but it does happen. People need to be aware of it. These pilots are very professional and take their jobs very seriously. But in the end, they had a mission to carry out, and they did so.

    Given our lack of working subs and icebreakers, we'd better start training our pilots for Canadian Arctic surveillance missions, where a rather more powerful and formidable enemy than ISIS threatens to intrude.

    •  6 місяців тому

      Subs are ALL in service and we have the 2nd largest icebreaker fleet on earth with steel being cut on 2 more ,so what is your point ? Clearly you are not much of a researcher or very well read........

    What was the main weapon used against the NATO fighters? Did they have to worry about other jets as capable the Hornet? Surface to air missiles? Flack from AAA-anti air craft artillery? No disrespect intended.

      the incident with the Jordanian Pilot being shot down happened close to or over the border of Syria. the attack on that aircraft was not made by isis supposedly, but Syrians. i believe at that time, ISIS or Deash was not in syria, but have migrated to Syria soon after.

      They had some AA guns, but they aren't very effective against jets. They captured a few SAMs, but I don't think they knew how to use them. I never heard of ISIS firing missiles at fighter jets, although they did shoot down some drones.

    I have a question -- considering the poor conditions that our aboriginal people live in, How we as Canadians have allowed the government to treat them so badly, for so long -- it has been characterized as genocide -- would it help the Canadian Government and Canadians in General to have people come from foreign lands to destroy us. Would it improve our treatment of them? Would it make us angry at them? Would we change? My point is, horrible things happen around the world constantly, and I feel our money and efforts would be better spent cleaning up our own back yard, looking at how we treat each other. We don't have to dispose of "evil" dictators, or impose regime change -- we are apparently the good guys -- so we need to just actually impose upon ourselves what we are willing to destroy others for not doing. Many of these groups that we fight overseas, have been created to initially fight forces that we didn't agree with. I will freely admit my own bias is against war. I hate it with every fibre of my being. It doesn't mean that we cannot help refugees, by taking them in, or giving support to their neighbouring countries, but I honestly feel when it comes to war that the only people who benefit are those who make weapons, they get sold to the other side, or left behind, to fall into the wrong hands, and then used to harm even more people. I think people who are willing to put their lives and future health at stake are very brave, I just think there has to be better ways of helping -- I mean, our Canada Pension Plan is invested in weapons manufacturer's -- as a Canadian, I do not want blood money supporting me when I retire. I wonder who else is invested, who else profits from what seems like endless war -- How long since the first invasion of Iraq -- 1991 -- and we sell weapons to the Suadi's who many question their human rights record, who knows whose hands those weapons will end up in. The middle east is incredibly complex. Lets take refugees lets provide food aid, but lets not provide weapons, let us not add to the death and destruction. Lets offer to host peace talks, but just not add to the carnage. I don't know if it is because we are a part of Nato and have to provide a certain level of military support because of our alliance, but I just think there has to be a better way to contribute.
