They made it in 2021 and somehow just ended uo winning the trophy. Thanks to SA's ridiculous performance in a crucial game (where they took 14 overs to chase 85 against Bangladesh, which ultimately costed their NRR). Thanks to Pakistan being Pakistan in the semi finals. Thanks to Aaron Finch who contributed nothing with the bat, but had the most pivotal role in spinning the coin and calling it correct in what was a 'win toss win game' WC (otherwise Kane and entire NZ in that red hot form, no way they were losing the final). So the utter gifts showered by fortune gave them a t20 WC title, otherwise Australia would have been the only team with SA to have not won the trophy even once among the big guys, NZ would have won it. The fact is Australia have never been a team looking to threaten when it comes to T20 WC. Formats are different and however great the Aussies may be in tests and ODIs, this FACT just can't be denied.
