i really want them to allow you to have more settlements, at least more than one My first settlement i hated at first, it was in a hot planet with constant extreme storms, was in a buggy area that made the settlement spawn basically INSIDE a hill area, creating a square shaped crater in the middle of it and it was near constantly being attacked by sentinels. I was like "why the fuck did yall decided to build a settlement in the most inhospitable place possible". I named it Cesspool and kept on with it because i didnt knew you could switch. Over time i started warming up to it, it was a gek settlement(my favorite npc race) and i was slowly investing more into it, building stuff, getting to know the npcs, their routines, resolving their disputes, etc. Nowdays it is a nice settlement, making much more than the maintnence cost and the sentinel attacks went down to nearly none. I installed an augment on my exosuit to handle heat resistance and now i can shrug off even the storms there. I renamed it to a more decent name "Crater Falls" and named the planet "Burning Hope" i love them now and could never abandon them to die there, because i know that in a place like that, they wouldnt survive without me. But sometimes i wish i could have a settlement elsewhere, like in a less hostile planet. I am aware that it is just a game, but i am a person that likes to play for the roleplay aspect of it, so yes, this is a big deal for me :(
I'm not sure if every settlement for begginers have the same area but you perfectly described what my 1st settlement is. Hot planet with hot rainstorms with sentinels roaming the area and beneath a crater with a negative trait of quicksand. Who the fck builds a settlement in a quicksand?
I know exactly what you are going through. My settlement is named, "Little Chechnya", and it is not a place for the meek. The sentinel attacks have gone down a lot since I expanded the boundaries a bit, but it is still a pretty rough neighborhood. I've put in too much work to just abandon the place. Just now learning I could have changed settlements
I like how you, as an established player, make mistakes that I can actually learn from. Not just telling us the mistakes, but actually making them. I can definitely appreciate that!
It would be really cool if once you've established a settlement and it started making profit if you could sell it off for some profit as well as a permanent buff towards future settlements kind of like creating a trade Network between town
I just started playing NMS and have about 76 hours right now and I have to say your videos are absolutely amazing. You find yourself needing help in this game and there are a ton of vids out there with people making content on how to, but yours are at another level. It's inspiring to see since I'm trying g to get a UA-cam channel going. Thank you so much for all of the time and effort you put in to making all the truly amazing content.
I'd make a small change to one tip, dont auto save, but have a portable save unit and make a manual one. This will prevent any accidental jump in and out of ships or anything that makes autos and could accidentally override the previous autosave. Furthermore, a manual save lets me check out the settlement on the planet I'm on first and if I don't like the stats I can reload my Manual save. This frees up the ability to fly to the settlements if they are far away.
what can i do if i did have that accidental auto save? i got a settlement on the planet i want but with very bad stats. is there a way to reset the settlement marker or something?
This tip doesn't work anymore. Sometime last year there was an update which made the ship saves (when you exit your ship) count like Restore Points, so it overrides the manual save you make at a placed Save Point. Pretty stupid change.
“60% of the time it works every time.” They called that “New Math” when my kids were young. :). I did try it without success, but I will give it a few more shots. I guess 40% of the time it never works. 😜
After 5 years, I've bought and tried every type of ship(s). I've settled on a totaly white inside and out, living ship. With one little exception, I LOVE IT! The issue I have is, one cannot insert the economy scanner.
I love your work and how in-depth are you talking about everything. I had to wait like 3 days for the patch to come out cause i was stuck in the "no more decisions" bug. Now that is fixed i can finally create my dream settlement!
When you get another settlement, does your previous settlement remain with any upgrades you put on it?. And it would be really cool if this benefited on the systems trading network
Still one of the best settlement intos. Main item of note is that settlements never cost you credits, they have their own separate bank account, but they will ask during a building creation for some of the weirder resources that can only be refined (via anomaly bought recipes that may need several hundred pant resources per item), not bought. I highly recommend having a base or freighter with a garden n the long term.
Just got back into NMS after a year break, instantly came back to your videos for a refresher. I appreciate your hard work! Been a subscriber for almost a year and a half!
One thing that I found that helped out really well is also go for a smaller system of planets go to a two Planet system and try and find a nice planet to set up on and you will have a stronger chance of getting your settlement on a paradise planet or otherwise better habitability.
I just recently found a beautiful settlement that was surrounded by mountains with a tunnle cutting through them that went straight to a trade outpost, its a B and the productivity is 100k less than the maintenance cost but idc imma grind this settlement because it is above perfect
Just started playing and honestly best way to make money I found was sitting at the nexus and random people gifting me stuff that's worth millions for no reason all, I was there maybe 5 mins, had to go do something in another room and came back and my inventory was full of stuff, went and sold it all and made a billion units, I was so shook haha
Lately, I've been building a massive base on a paradise planet I found near the center of the Euclid galaxy. I've been watching your videos to decide what my next project would be after. I got a settlement a while back and kinda hate it. I'll definitely be using this as a reference to replacement it.
I've just recently returned after a long break and didn't even know about settlements. I responded to the distress call (which probably came after a multiple of 5 warps because I came out into a pirate battle, too), landed and decided I could deal with it later. But after that I started seeing the settlement icon on a planet in nearly every system I visited. So yeah, once the mission is activated, you can take your time and be choosy. I picked one on a nice lush planet... The only prep you really need is a weapon to deal with the scripted sentinel attacks.
Thank you for asking for likes and subscriptions after you did you entire video instead of at the start. Gained mine just because of that. So Tired of most youtube channels telling us to like a video we haven't even seen before.
I just came back because of this settlement thing. It seems cool so far. When I logged in, I was in the Anomaly so I jumped to my material farms then back to my original home planet. Once I flew into space I wound up with a settlement on my home planet very close to my base. I'll take that.
Suggestion: take notes in the class grade:C,B,A or S WITH the amount of money they make. I pick up a c class settlement and at the moment is a B class making 300k. #2 and last: if settlement is in a research it will hold the construction option for new building. I did have to wait 24hrs for my new building 😕. It may work if the construction is in progress then do se research 👍🏽
Note: You'll need to unlock the Microprocessor blueprint by purchasing it from within Anomoly for 250 Nanites before you can actually craft it. Otherwise, you'll have to either purchase it from a Trade Terminal (they're pretty expensive) or hope you get lucky when looting random caches and other containers scattered across the planetary surfaces and in and around structures.
Yup on my first play run i fucked up and didnt get the recipe and in this new save i made now with experience i got the most important blueprints and recipes and it helps alot more being prepared than when i played a couple of years ago when it was new and messed up big time 🤦🏾🤦🏾😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣

I tried going to a cartographer at a space station as you instructed, but I don't see any settlement maps. Is there's something I'm supposed to do first before he actually sells one or is my game broken?
I am also having this same issue.. I just gave up on the whole thing. You would think with a possible what? 18 quintillion planets, we shouldn't have an issue finding one. Especially since there seems to be multiple settlements on some planets..

JASON!!! I have an important question and you always help me do you are the person I shall ask Do you only have to pay the maintenance cost for settlements for in game days? Like if your Game is off you don’t get charged and come on one day and you have racked up millions in debt? Thanks Jason Also I found you can get a settlement on your planet if you fly up above your planet and scan in space (I was kinda in orbit) it will mark one on your planet you was just on it worked twice but never worked once when I was landed on my planet
I accepted my overseer position too early in the game and the planet is awful. Constant radioactive storms on an already hazy, low visibility planet. I appear to have maxed out the building capacity now as all I get asked is to make policy decisions. I’ve reached 100% happiness and productivity, so I think I’m going to take a bunch of charts out into the universe and hopefully get this to work on one of my bountiful or flourishing planet discoveries.
I am playing 4 saves, I have 2 C class and 2 B class settlements. after the 3.63 patch I noticed one of my B's became S class. I can't figure out what stats differ to make it S class as it was one that is in debt and only making +203u, tons of buildings to get it profitable though.
I had mine turn s class, built more buildings improving productivity and lowering maintenance and went back to b class haha, so I'd love to know how they work it out lol
I haven't played this update yet myself, but from what I've seen it looks like you just find a new settlement. When you do and accept it, it'll automatically remove you from your current settlement.
@BeepBoop is correct. I did this. My settlement was OK except I was annoyed by blizzards on the frozen world I started with. I found a lush planet, used a settlement chart, and when I submitted my application to be an overseer of the new settlement, it automatically advised me that I would be resigning as overseer of the old settlement (basically, confirming that I wanted to switch to this settlement). A bonus for me is that even though both settlements are C class, the new one was already profitable whereas the old one was in the red. Cool beans!
Is it just me, or do settlements *never* spawn on paradise planets? I keep finding them on crap planets, but not on nice and peaceful, low sentinel, nice weather, no butt-chomping animals planets. It's like it's intentional!
For some reason when I try and go buy settlement charts it only gives me the option to buy exosuit upgrade charts instead of settlemen charts, am I doing something wrong?
After running several settlements and always replacing one for another on another world, my basic question is...are there any tips and tricks for what is produced? For instance, my first one produced a decent value of items, but my second produced really poor value. First world was harsher, second more paradise like. Of course, if there was more data from others, then perhaps there is a way to figure out tips on what is profitable to invest in a bigger settlement etc.
My computer fatally crashed in December. It looks like I'm missing a lot. (But I didn't miss that you set off toward an airless world: their look from space hasn't changed)
Portals and launch pads are features of settlements but theres no base computer so you cant freely place base parts. All the buildings are randomly placed as you make decisions to build them. Basicaly all your doing is approving/declining the projects your settlers present you, then supplying the building materials.
Help, the wiring in my base isnt working. I've rewired everything and batteries show as "not connected to grid" I need to supply my gas extractors for a o2 farm
No Mans Sky Spy in the settlement. I have a Spy indicator in my settlement status console. I have a very fast running settler that I can't seem to catch. He appears when I teleport or land there. Do I try to catch and talk or try to shoot him..any suggestions?
Can someone please tell me how to beat the purple warped sentinels. My weapon has no effect on them, they attack my settlement and all I can do is run, what upgrade do I need, because nothing I have tried has worked.
Wait! Why would someone far enough along in the game to actually Have the microprocessor blueprint, need any help finding a settlement? Chances are they already know about the map vendor. And would HAVE to know how to get to the anomaly since that comes at the Beginning of Artemis' questline, andyou get the Apollo section later - which is where you Start the line that gives you the microprocessor blueprint. Has someone been editing in blueprints for so long they don't know where they come from anymore?
So what happens if you have the settlement icon already in a save but you don't own the settlement yet and it's on a planet you don't want? Like I just loaded up my game. I'm looking at the settlement. I go up to the kiosk and talk to it but decline to own it. But the icon doesn't go away. The settlement happens to be in the system that my planet that I DO want it on is in. Do I just accept to own it? Then go to the planet I want it on and plot a chart? Or I'm stuck with it? Just for the heck of it, I'm going leave this system and come back to it and see what happens I guess. *Update that didn't work. Just said target in another system and when I try to plot nothing happens. Maybe I can accept it on the one I don't want, then go to the one I do want and plot.
I believe if you already have the settlement quest started you can restart if you travel far enough away from it (as long as you haven't actually claimed the settlement at least). So keep on jumping systems and eventually you'll have the option to recalibrate the quest (keep checking your log). I'd then wait until you're in a system with planets you'd like to have a settlement on and then recalibrate.
My settlement is on a horrible extreme planet. Its a c rating and its going to take a lot. Is there a way to quit the settlement and leave them to die?
@@InnerRealmPlays You just need to find a new settlement and then apply to be overseer of that new settlement. You can't have 2 settlements so you won't be the overseer of your previous settlement anymore.
@@berserk2424 thank you. Only problem is every settlement I find says I can't apply because I'm not this or I'm not that. I have 180+ hours on the game I am the highest level with the vykeen, korvax and gek. So frustrating.
I tried the reloading thing on a lush moon. Reloaded like four or five times but the settlement just kept spawning offworld. At some point I just gave up...
You more or less need a paradise planet in a system that has good trade economy and try for settlement there because it can be a pain if say you need chromatic metal and there copper or whatever nearby but alot of hostile creatures and bad air built on sand etc negatively effects the settlers. Perfect planet surrounded by planets that have a good variety of different resources
Cam someone tell me how to start an expedition?.. is there a window of time to be able to play it? I haven't been able to select expedition for last few months now...
Found a Paradise planet so used a settlement chart having followed all the steps shown here. Used chart at least 15 times without success. Am I missing something or just incredibly unlucky???
I don't know what's the deal with my settlement. I'm out of debt, it jumped from a B to an S class one and all the time I only get 2 building options "Marketplace" or "Stardocking station." I already have 4 of each, lol. And yet my population is 36 citizens. I wonder why I'm not getting any house buildings to construct and increase my population. Happyness is 89% already.
See I like discovering things I just wanted to know what to look for in a settlement or if it matters. So I don't spend a week building up a settlement that has limited potential... like upgrading the hell out of a C class Shuttle.
Anyone know a better trick for getting it on planets you actually want? I found a paradise planet with limited sentinel activity and no storms. I have used the map and reloaded over 30 times now at least and every time it goes to a different planet. Do they not spawn on certain planets?
I spent over an our loading and reloading saves until I got a settlement on the planet I'm on. It turned out to be a C class and with a fairly big gap between running costs and profit. Tried again for and after 30 minutes got another one on the right planet but it was a C class again. Stats were better so I'm sticking with that and hopping to improve to a B etc later. First settlement so I'm still getting to grips with it and how to make choices. Gone for market before landing pad so far.
I’m currently doing this as well and keep getting the same settlement on the same other random moon. Did you guys move around on your chosen planet or just keep shooting maps off from the same reload spot? Just wondering if moving around first would help.
I am experiencing a bug where ever since Frontiers launched EVERY settlement (over 15 of them so far) I’ve been to whether spawned by the mission or generated using a cartographer’s chart, regardless of Galaxy (Euclid & Eissentam) is already an “Other Player’s Settlement” and has zeroed out stats. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know a fix?
Yes, it is the same for me. I tried yesterday and today visited different systems, different planets (some ugly, dirty, paradise) and nothing all settlements were occupied by some other player! WTF??? And also interesting fact, all systems were not discovered, i was the first who opened them.
It should be in your teleporter's destinations, under Your Bases. It has a violet background. Some people have reported a bug that theirs didn't get added, but that's fixed in tomorrow's patch.

JASON!!! I have an important question and you always help me do you are the person I shall ask
Do you only have to pay the maintenance cost for settlements for in game days? Like if your Game is off you don’t get charged and come on one day and you have racked up millions in debt? Thanks Jason
Also I found you can get a settlement on your planet if you fly up above your planet and scan in space (I was kinda in orbit) it will mark one on your planet you was just on it worked twice but never worked once when I was landed on my planet
I had the mission send me to another players settlement. Defended it from sentinels and everything😂 if you're reading this Æğroñø, you're welcome
Is there something specific I have to do to unlock the next Settlement upgrade?
I accepted my overseer position too early in the game and the planet is awful. Constant radioactive storms on an already hazy, low visibility planet. I appear to have maxed out the building capacity now as all I get asked is to make policy decisions. I’ve reached 100% happiness and productivity, so I think I’m going to take a bunch of charts out into the universe and hopefully get this to work on one of my bountiful or flourishing planet discoveries.
I already triggered the mission but I dont want the settlement. Am I screwed or can I go find a different one?
I am playing 4 saves, I have 2 C class and 2 B class settlements. after the 3.63 patch I noticed one of my B's became S class. I can't figure out what stats differ to make it S class as it was one that is in debt and only making +203u, tons of buildings to get it profitable though.
Wait, you can become the manager of more than 1 settlement?
@@TheOnlySheet No, you can have only one settlement, however i have 4 different game saves where each has one settlement.
I had mine turn s class, built more buildings improving productivity and lowering maintenance and went back to b class haha, so I'd love to know how they work it out lol
does this work with multiplayer if you play with your friends
What I need to know is how to abandon the literal hellhole I got into first.
Cool beans!
@@beepboopbeepboop190 it didn't work before but it works now. Thanks.
My fuckin settlement was on a toxic planet with radiation storms and aggressive sentinels. Thank you for this video lol
Are the settlements like an alternative to a base? As in can you place a portal, large refinery, launch pad, etc at them?
Portals and launch pads are features of settlements but theres no base computer so you cant freely place base parts. All the buildings are randomly placed as you make decisions to build them.
Basicaly all your doing is approving/declining the projects your settlers present you, then supplying the building materials.
Help, the wiring in my base isnt working. I've rewired everything and batteries show as "not connected to grid" I need to supply my gas extractors for a o2 farm
Will this work on multiplayer?
How do I kill the drones attacking the settlement in the story mission, my weapon has no effect?
I found a tropical moon. Does this work on moons also?
After I built the overseer building I no longer have a construction site to use??? Any help would be nice
Danke!
another settlement needs your help, I will mark on your map
Can you have a settlement on same planet as your base
Hello Jason!
Why can’t I buy from the pilot at the trading post
I found a way point beacon which when activated gave me the location of a minor settlement.
My settlement is on a horrible extreme planet. Its a c rating and its going to take a lot. Is there a way to quit the settlement and leave them to die?
I found a settlement on a paradise planet and I want it
@@InnerRealmPlays You just need to find a new settlement and then apply to be overseer of that new settlement.
Can you upgrade the class of ther setelment ?
JASON what is the cool down time for settlement decisions
Because I sped up my time on ps4 by 20 years and still didn't get any new buildings
The latest patch 3.63 will fix this bug, from no decisions to 1 every 15 mins - 2 hours. out on pc right now and should be incomming to consoles
Can you own more than one settlement?
You more or less need a paradise planet in a system that has good trade economy and try for settlement there because it can be a pain if say you need chromatic metal and there copper or whatever nearby but alot of hostile creatures and bad air built on sand etc negatively effects the settlers. Perfect planet surrounded by planets that have a good variety of different resources
Videos are nice give me something to do while I grind for s class capital ship
Cam someone tell me how to start an expedition?.. is there a window of time to be able to play it? I haven't been able to select expedition for last few months now...
Expeditions are time limited events. One is not currently available, but expedition 3 is releasing soon. In the next couple days
Because I'm using an old game rich already, I'm choosing the things that will boost happiness and expenses, trying to get as big a debt as possible.
For the sentinels, I just jumped in my ship and killed them all quick while flying around the settlement 🤣
Can you get a new settlement and replace your old one like with freighters?
Yes
"there will be disputes and youll have to decide what to do"....uh no, the gods will decide: TRIAL BY COMBAAAT!
I tried to find the settlement on a paradise planet can you not find settlements on Paradise in planet it didn't work
I want mine on my paradise planet too but it never spawns on it.
Jason made a video recently about this bug being fixed soon. I believe it’s Sept 8. It is a known bug
I notice you didn't have the mission active?
Can you make units off of a settlement
Dose crashed ship glitch work this up date?
How do you get back to your settlement after going off to explore waiting for your help to be needed?
It should be in your teleporter's destinations, under Your Bases. It has a violet background. Some people have reported a bug that theirs didn't get added, but that's fixed in tomorrow's patch.
Just like my system, also korvax.
Well 147k ppl like this style but dude that voice is killing me
i have my first settlement, maintenance is 250k and theyre only making 75k xD, this day i made them make 400k but my settlement is in fiery planet. so, im looking for a new settlement xD
