- During World War 2 Japan developed large hydrogen filled paper balloons that carried incendiary bombs all the way from Japan to the the West Coast of North America - from Mexico to Canada. Released near Nagoya at specific times of the year, they ascended to about 30,000' and road prevailing winds, traveling at about 100mph, taking about four days to reach the West Coast. A set of relatively simple instruments controlled altitude and release of small incendiary bombs designed to set fire to forests, crops and flammable structures. Some of them made it all the way, but without causing significant damage. The U.S. Navy recovered a few that crashed & failed to explode to study them and to recreate the replicas shown & explained in this fascinating film.

Japan is going to do it again? The last time Americans forgave them for all those warcrimes and even gave them positions in USA universities.

The cutaway artist of the Palomar 200-inch telescope, Russell W. Porter, working at Caltech, helped to decipher the workings of the balloon's controls and made classified drawings to explain them. The drawings have since been displayed at the US Air Force Museum.
Strange ???? - The USA knew how to deal with the high altitude balloons in WW2 and they have no idea what to do today??????

In olden days ppl used to think a lot with meagre technology and good calculations with pen and paper,
In Present day scenario they don't know how to tackle situation without using gadgets..!
Accept, the US didn't know how to deal with them during WWII. All they did was cover it up like now. Plus the Chinese spy balloons were flying twice as high.
@@davidhoffman6980 If you had done your research, you would have learned the USA did extensive research with balloons. The Army in the 1940's and the 1950's. The US Navy in 1960 and 1961 at Pensacola Air Naval Station in Florida doing extremely high altitude maned tests.. I was stationed there at the time and witnessed some of the exercises. The US knows and it is no secret. The reports were published and you can find a lot of the information online.
The Park Service had poster about these in the 1980.Some have never been founded.
If only we had $400K AIM9Xs back then.
The Japanese were able to hit the North American continent with these balloons, but we're unable to hit military installations or even large cities. Still, for the cheap cost of these balloons, it might have been worth it.

Right. That is all the China is capable of. Nothing to see now. let's go back to sleep until they can make intercontinental supersonic missiles that can fly over, or build their own space station, or send rover the far side of the moon, or to Mars, instead of a frigging "wandering balloon".
