I loved watching these as a middle schooler in 2008. It's wild coming back at age 28 and this gives me nostalgia even though I wasn't alive in the 80s.
It's one of my favorites too. It's the earliest recorded tape I've been able to find in my family's stash. And all of the local commercials serve as a pretty good time capsule for the area where I grew up.
I think they used a voice actor to dube in the dude at the end of the arm & hammer ad. (The voice dosen't seem to sinc with his speaking!) I'd even be prepared to swear the voice was that of the late Mr. Artie Stang. He was still active at the time! Also, you were right about Casey Kasem in the BBQ ad! Side note... the blonde in 'the Tortellis' ads was 'Mrs. Kasem'! She had a recurring role on 'Cheers' & had a walk-on in Ghostbusters I!
Those might be game show commercial bumpers, but the commercials on this tape are actually from a recording of the Beach Boys 4th of July Concert from 1985.
i used to use sea breeze back in middle school. I had really bad acne then too and the stuff stung so much! of course this was the only 'good' acne-fighting facial cleanser sold on base since my dad was still in the air force at the time and the stuff was cheaper on base than going to walmart even though he sometimes perferred going there.
- I agree with you on commercial three. They absolutely need to bring back LMAD. It's a shame they only show the 70s version on GSN and not the 1985 (86 also?) version also. - $340 for a VCR? - Duracell jingles/commercials > Energizer jingles/commercials - The La Choy commercials was classic! - Whatever happened to Mennen?
The music in the Burdicks commercial was the same theme used in the WWF wrestling weekly show when I first started watching in the early 80's. It's funny how random some of the things that we remember from our childhood.
@MattJFisher The tape they're from is the 1985 Fourth of July Concert with The Beach Boys (Though the tape is of a rebroadcast recorded in '86). I'm thinking about posting some of it on the fourth this year, so stay tuned!
Dammit! How I miss those frozen La Choy Egg Rolls. They were nothing like a real eggroll. More like a Totino's pizza roll filled with some non descript "Asian" ingredients. They were always a favorite after school snack. Someone, possibly Banquet or Hungry Man, had a "Chinese" meal that had so bad it was good: chop suey, fried rice and egg roll. Where I lived didn't have a large Chinese population...to be so blissfully ignorant of Chinese food that this was good...Good Times!
"Place In The Sun.", by Pablo Cruise. And "In The Dark", by Billy Squier, Awesome. lol That Subaru looked just alot a Pulsar/Fiero/MR2s/TR7s from back then. Those were the cars, that made me want to race cars later in life. That I-ROC they showed was badass too. Poor Pete Rose. Yes! Starch is GREAT for you! Eat up, Future Diabetics. lol
I gave away one last month that weighed at least 30 lbs. It was left over from a haul of vintage junk! I remember their mall stores; also Video Concepts.
I researched it for you. They experimented serving breakfast in 1985, which only lasted a few months because the food took too long to prepare and killed lunchtime kitchen efficiency. BTW, if you're 22, why would you have memories of what fast food places were up to in 1985?
"Believe it or not a potato has 1/3 the fat of hamburger"? Duh! I would've thought it had much less than that! And aren't they now saying to avoid starch?
and holy shit that VCR was over 300 dollars? X__X I dont remember them costing that much new, wow thats insane....I remember when we first bought ours...it was pricey but I don't recall my dad spending THAT much. X_X;;;
It must be true about Centrum, because I've never heard of the other vitamin brands. Oh, the computers... -_-() My mom used La Choy. Oh, the pain seeing those cars again... -_-() Alex Trebeck had dark brown hair!!! Starch was a diet food??
Wayne Brady hosts the current version of "Let's Make a Deal," and Drew Carey hosts "The Price Is Right." Incidentally, Brady is back on the current CW version of "Whose Line Is It Anyway", sans Drew Carey (Aisha Tyler is the host).
that's right, the man who's famous "bounce" strategy would be used by many a J! player to come I can't get over it, only 24 years old, and would become a five time champion and go on to win the tournament of champions, all in all, he walked away with $172,800. . It's just a shame that he lost in the quarterfinals of Super J!. However, he would reach the semi's of the million dollar masters, but would lose to fellow 80s TOC Champ, Bob Verini, who is another favorite J! Champ of mine.

I just love the warmth of the cinematography from this period.
Me too. I always think that to myself.
I was in search of KMST 46 and found this video. Fantastic! Since I live in Monterey it brought back memories. Thank you.
We used to want a way to skip these...now we're archiving them and watching it on-line.
It's one of my favorites too. It's the earliest recorded tape I've been able to find in my family's stash. And all of the local commercials serve as a pretty good time capsule for the area where I grew up.
Reminds me of watching Basic Cable. 10 solid minutes of commercials within each program.
Obviously, you had to experiance the 80's to appreciate them...good times! Love the 80's!
Yes, the late Lorenzo Music.
Thanks so much for posting these! they bring back so many memories. I am amazed that lamost 25 years later I still know so many of the "jingles"
This is really cool cause I stumbled on this by accident and I'm originally from Salinas. That Richardsons jingle lol gotta love it
That commercial was from the film "Short Circuit"!
I'm from Santa Cruz. We get stations from both San Francisco and the Central Coast.
The salad bar was the best.

Delicious starch!

I was thinking the same thing. They had a Budweiser commercial something like this in the 90's. But it was set in a sports bar.
- I agree with you on commercial three. They absolutely need to bring back LMAD. It's a shame they only show the 70s version on GSN and not the 1985 (86 also?) version also.

Now revealing the latest and greatest diet food........... STARCH
I love the old 86 Corvettes!!
Love the La Choy cm. Stereotypical asians with their kung fu, funny accents, and the man demanding the woman to go cook more food. Fantastic!
never even knew Wendy's has breakfast.
Me either. I think they had it back 2011 but discontinued it
The music in the Burdicks commercial was the same theme used in the WWF wrestling weekly show when I first started watching in the early 80's. It's funny how random some of the things that we remember from our childhood.
Their breakfast was awesome....and I wish they still did it!
0:07 And, apparently, Sea Breeze cleans so deep it'll make your hair fly around!
Why would it be unbelievable that a potato would have less calories than a hamburger?
For a time in 2008, here in Ontario, Wendy's served breakfast at some locations in Toronto and Peterborough.
Yup, I recognized the voice in Champale as the voice of Garfield.
@MattJFisher The tape they're from is the 1985 Fourth of July Concert with The Beach Boys (Though the tape is of a rebroadcast recorded in '86). I'm thinking about posting some of it on the fourth this year, so stay tuned!
I like that Monterey Peninsula Auto Center commercial, it sounds like the music was recorded cheap in some local studio.
MC DNice Oh lord my bad dude
Cool!
I saw that Sea Breeze commercial from a Live Aid concert tape I found in La Puente, California four months ago.
Dammit! How I miss those frozen La Choy Egg Rolls. They were nothing like a real eggroll. More like a Totino's pizza roll filled with some non descript "Asian" ingredients. That commercial was pretty funny, especially the failed lip-syncing lmao
You can till find La Choy products in your local supermarket.
"Place In The Sun.", by Pablo Cruise. And "In The Dark", by Billy Squier, Awesome. lol That Subaru looked just alot a Pulsar/Fiero/MR2s/TR7s from back then. starch, the healthy diet food
May Zeus himself strike down the mortal that denies the goodness of Trebek's mustache!
I gave away one last month that weighed at least 30 lbs. It was left over from a haul of vintage junk!
I remember their mall stores; also Video Concepts.
By Mennen!
Probably in the morning.
I would assume so. Hearing "Oriental" always reminded me of a couch or some piece of furniture.
Wendy's just started reserving breakfast again this year. I have no idea why they stopped in the first place.
But he's right! it droops to the right and is completely lopsided!! ;-)
wendy's don't do breakfast anymore!
They do now.
Ahh. I miss Lorenzo Music. R.I.P.
Do you have other tapes from Monterey and from the 80s? I still get the Highland Cleaners jingle stuck in my head, but i haven't heard it in years!
rip casey kasem :)
The voice of Shaggy Rogers on Scooby Doo!
"Classic American Top 40" is back on the radio where I live--both the 1970's and 80's versions! Yes, the ghost of Casey Kasem is back on the airwaves.
Sea Breeze.... that was good shit! And Noxema!!
"And can we please have "Let's Make A Deal" back on TV again?"
Wow, 80sCV, you called it about a year before it happened!
It's already back on TV.
Definitely agree on the starch comment.
It's interesting that you said you wanted Let's Make a Deal on tv again when it actually has been since October 2009 : )
yes, but only at Wal-Mart (rite-aid too if you want anther product of SeaBreeze).
RIP - Alex Trebek
Yeah, they still do around here.
wow! what a concept! i WIRELESS remote???? LOL
Yah, and don't forget the "Wireless Remote"!!
wendys use to serve breakfast i didnt know that or maybe i dont remember because i was only 8 years old at the time
I researched it for you. They experimented serving breakfast in 1985, which only lasted a few months because the food took too long to prepare and killed lunchtime kitchen efficiency.
BTW, if you're 22, why would you have memories of what fast food places were up to in 1985?
Meredith Baxter got married twice and had 5 kids and then anounced she is gay in 2009 after she had her 1st same sex relationship. go figure.
The late great Lorenzo Music (shilling for a product that's now its own punch line) @ 8:07
Garfield and Peter Venkman
I'll be damned if that isn't Casey Kasem's voice at 0:55!
@Aphoresis I remember the salad bar.
Rose as a player! the voice of Garfield!
"Believe it or not a potato has 1/3 the fat of hamburger"?
Duh! I would've thought it had much less than that! And aren't they now saying to avoid starch?
What's the music on the Monterey Peninsula Auto Centre commercial???
ua-cam.com/video/JOSHirh0Qzk/v-deo.html
@@80sCommercialVault Thanks amigo
and holy shit that VCR was over 300 dollars? X__X I dont remember them costing that much new, wow thats insane....I remember when we first bought ours...it was pricey but I don't recall my dad spending THAT much. X_X;;;
+1Sandwitch1 I was born in 1985 my first VCR i bought was $89.00 so yea pretty crazy!
My Panasonic 4 head VCR cost around $150 new, in the late 1980s.
My dad bought our first vcr in 1986 for 599.00....😨.....
In New York City I've seen the occasional Wendy's franchise that serves breakfast to this day. I guess some individual locations find it profitable.
Wow Casey Kasem did bbq sauce too?
It must be true about Centrum, because I've never heard of the other vitamin brands. Oh, the computers... -_-() My mom used La Choy. Oh, the pain seeing those cars again... -_-() Alex Trebeck had dark brown hair!!! Starch was a diet food??
hahahaha. Thick and spicy guy took a fake bite out of a fake chicken leg.:-P
When I first heard the song "Only You" I said...Hey! They're singing the Wendy's commercial song! Whatever happened to Pete Rose?
Good lord, Elle MacPherson was hot.
@Califacience yes it has and ive experienced it first hand
Byyyy...MENNEN!
NESTLE CRUNCH!!!
You'd be surprised.
I have at least 35 years of pop culture knowledge (though the topic of fast food is rather fuzzy for me).
I'm Serious, man
I'm 22 and have no memory whatsoever of Wendy's serving breakfast.
I love the 80's why was I born in the 2000's?
I don't know for sure if reincarnation is real, but I must've lived in the 80s to love it this much.
That thingle you felt with SeaBreeze was the sting of alcohol. It was terrible for your skin!
@80sCommercialVault - When did Jeopardy! (and maybe Wheel) move from 46 to 8? Or did both shows air on separate stations?
@humhunny I had forgotten all about MicroAge
BY MENNEN!
And starches ARE healthy "when you don't load them up with sugar and fat."
Elle♥♥♥♥
Wendys breakfast? omg the chevy rofl- I recall half theze- im Eighties Junkie :D -
let's make a deal is back because of drew carey and wayne brady :)
Wayne Brady hosts the current version of "Let's Make a Deal," and Drew Carey hosts "The Price Is Right." Incidentally, Brady is back on the current CW version of "Whose Line Is It Anyway", sans Drew Carey (Aisha Tyler is the host).
La Choy doesn't even make their soy sauce out of real soy beans.
And there's Jeopardy! champ Chuck Forrest at 8:55 and 9:02!
I killed so many brain cells in the 80's!
that's right, the man who's famous "bounce" strategy would be used by many a J! player to come I can't get over it, only 24 years old, and would become a five time champion and go on to win the tournament of champions, all in all, he walked away with $172,800. . September 1988.
@DarkRider69
the voice of Garfield the Cat, right?
What show on CBS are all these commercials from? They remind me of commercials appearing on Jeopardy!
@slipknot789able
Did you know they used to have a 7 salad bar with all the fixins?
lol The car commercials look like, used auto ads :P
Look at the date the video was uploaded. ;-)
WHERES THE BEEF??
Wendy's used to sell BREAKFAST?!?
27 years ago Meredith Baxter Birney was hot. that was when she was young, thin, and straight. LOL.
8:23 ...and turn you into common houseplants.
In the La Choy commercial, she said "I invited the neighbors." Then why would they kick the door down?
Starch, the diet food!
