After a long period of being idle in music, today I resumed a new project in memory and honor of my late friend and music partner, Raymond Asseily. One of his favorite tunes was “Che vuole questa musica stasera," a famous Italian song originally performed by Peppino Gagliardi. This track, released in 1969, is a classic example of Italian romantic pop music from that era and was popular in Lebanon during the 1970s as well. The title translates to "What does this music want tonight?"
The song speaks of love and melancholy, evoking deep emotions of nostalgia and longing-feelings that resonate with me profoundly. The lyrics express the protagonist's inner turmoil as the music stirs memories of a past love. The melody is soft and melodic, with orchestral arrangements that create a deeply emotive atmosphere.
Over the years, "Che vuole questa musica stasera" has been featured in various movies and TV shows, solidifying its place as a timeless piece in Italian music history. Its melancholic yet captivating mood makes it a favorite among those who appreciate Italian music from the '60s and '70s.
Whenever I hear this beautiful music, I can't help but remember Raymond and the times we shared singing this song together at the piano.
