I watched my uncle do a rebuild on a ‘50’s Massey gasser when I was but a wee lad. I’ve been addicted to Massey’s ever since. Ha had an old 50’s Minneapolis Moline trike front too. He used to wheelie it out of the shed instead of ducking under the door header. These tractor rebuilds you do really tug at my heart strings and remind me of awesome times helping Uncle Pete on the ranch out in Eastern CO. Thanks Rich!! Keep her filthy bud!

Ive been watching the Ferguson rebuild multiple times. I want to do ag mechanics as well. But I want to get on restoration side as well. Can i just come to Canada and you teach me the mechanics side? I am so tired and burnt out on nursing. Also how do you find out info on older tractors like toque specs and pulling valve cover on warm engine and re-torque head or other little specifics that a specific brand may want you to do during a rebuild?

I used to fret over every little modification I made to my engines, anytime I would swap out a bad component or especially after a rebuild. Then I read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and "Lila", Robert Pirsig's follow-up on the Metaphysics of Quality. IMHO, you can think of an engine as being "prone" or "tending" or even "wanting" to run. Each component of the engine has been meticulously engineered to "want" to do exactly that one thing and do it well, which is "morally ideal". All the mechanic has to do is appreciate and maintain the function of each component. When all of the components work together to we tend to obtain social and technological value much greater than we might assign to just the engine itself.
Ok, I'll come back down to Earth now.

was a garage near me that sold zetor tractors in the 70s .....he lived 90 miles from dublin where they were held in the main importers place , he sometimes used to get a car load of young fellas to drive them all the way back to his place to save a few quid on haulage ,that time young lads would drive them for nothing just to be seen on them , how times have changed ,....he often remarked that the ones that were driven from dublin flat out for 7 hours very seldom came back with engine trouble and lots of the bigger models were worked very hard ........

@12:15. Interesting. I agree with the shit oil for the initial fire, crappy Tire on sale dino juice will suffice, but I don't go 20 hours. IMO first oil change as soon as the coolant makes 195 for 3 minutes. Amazed at the metallic crap that comes out of the sump from the rebuilder. Will the average customer know the difference over a decade? Probably not, you're right .. not building a NASCAR engine.

I had the same motor rebuilt here in California for my wood chipper. Do you know how much oil should be coming out of the rocker arm assembly, meaning is it a little bit or should it really squirt? Mine doesn’t seem to be flowing and the machine shop said that is normal. I don’t get any puddling in the head, makes me nervous!

I'm interested in a book/ trouble shooting/ ect on a model 40 Massey Ferguson industrial, yellow tractor. Figured you would know a good source. Did you do any vids on the 2.5?
