    Emma is my favorite classic as well. Yes, I found it to be cringy at times, only mr. Knightley seemed like a logical character in the whole book (😅) but I love that book so much that I recommend it to almost everyone! And thanks, I was confused which movie/ series I should watch.

    • @Ortisse
      @Ortisse 6 років тому

      Oh yes Mr Knightley is the only one having a bit of reason in this book. He's my favorite male caractere in all Jane Austen books! My favorite female is Lizzie from P&P.

    • @shamrinmohaiminisarah9028
      @shamrinmohaiminisarah9028 6 років тому

      @Ortisse I could never get over Mr. knightley no matter how many books I read and Lizzie idk she seemed indifferent at times to me. Emma is very different from her. I can't compare them.

    haha i love you so much, I always enjoy your videos (and your humor, whenever it shows) "whenever Jane Austen comes out with a book... Wouldn't that be weird" :D I'm currently in a bit of a reading slump myself, but I'll definitely look into The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry when I feel like buying and reading books again :D you always make great suggestions, and when you recommend ones that AREN'T sci-fi or Fantasy, I'm always intrigued :D

    I read Emma and LOVED IT! Jane Austen books make me feel so cosy.
    Poppy war is on my reading list, I only wait for the 2nd to be on sale.
    The good books I read between june and september:
    - E. Wharton, la splendeur des Lansing. 1st time I read a Wharton book and it was so good, I plan to read at least 1 once a year.
    - B. Sanderson, Warbreaker. Same here 1st Sanderson book I read (because of you!), I loved it. It was very different of other fantasy books I read. Plan to read some more now.
    - E. Ferrante, l'amie prodigieuse 3. I didn't think this saga was my type of book but I really enjoy going through Italia's history with this 2 girls, even if I can't stand the major caracter Lenu.
    - J.C Rufin, la salamandre. I love Rufin's books, they're so powerfull.
    - Harari, Sapiens, une brève histoire de l'humanité. It was so interesting, I read it by an audiobook I think I'll buy the book because I want to take notes.
    - Murakami, sommeil. 1st Murukami's book I read, it's a short one in a beautifull edition. I think now I'm going to read Kafka sur le rivage.

    Em, have you read Les Miserables? Yeah it's long and some might say draggy, but honestly I enjoyed the digressions so much, Hugo is so knowledgeable and unexpectedly funny at times. It's so grand and sweeping, one of the great epics of all time. It is one of the books I love so much that I am a little jealous of French being your primary language, so you can easily read it in the original.

    • @BookswithEmilyFox

      I think people find her annoying and either fail to realize it's on purpose (like how people are silly in P&P) or they don't enjoy books when the main character isn't likeable!

    I read the poppy war this summer per your recommendation. For the most part, I think it’s an impressive debut novel. I especially liked how similar it is to Ender’s Game and Rin reminded me a lot of Ender. We’ll have to disagree on the magic system for now. I think it was the weakest part of the novel along with Altan’s poorly developed character. I imagine the magic system will be developed more in the next book considering how the book ended, but I found it to be quite vague and hand wavey. Great ending though.

    I loved The Poppy War! I found the beginning (the school part) kind of boring and unoriginal but the rest of the book was so good! It was super dark but I love how the main character had some difficult decisions to make and didn't necessarily make the "correct" decisions or the standard "hero" decisions.

    I loved Jurassic Park when I read it last year, I agree the kids are annoying in it but I didn’t mind so much. My favorite books of the summer have been the Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Love this. And you’ve convinced me to read Emma soon. Have you tried the Audible exclusive audiobook narrated by Emma Thompson? I bet it would be awesome! I’m also wondering something about your feelings on romance: do you think it’s specifically the YA romance that you hate? I say this because I am a huge (regular) romance genre reader, but I basically looooathe it in YA. Again, to each their own and it’s totally cool if you don’t like it across the board, but if you want some recs for non-cringy regular adult romance books, let me know. I think I have a few you’d really like.

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 років тому

      It's a bit weird. I don't mind romance in movies or tv shows so it seems to be just in books. Sometimes I'll like them (even some YA but it's rare). Maybe there's no logic to it 😂

    It's not often you hear someone praising the science of Jurassic Park. The few people I've seen who read it said it was too heavy for them. I personally don't see how you could do a book about bringing back Dinosaurs from extinction without going deep into the science. Plus it was pretty much Crichton's MO.
    I've not read the book since I was in my late teens so it's long overdue a reread. I don't remember the kids from the first book too well but what stood out to me from The Lost World was that the movie removed a kid (I think he was what we'd call Asian, you guys possibly would say Indian) and changed the female kid to be Ian Malcom's daughter. Weird.
    Good to see someone else who enjoyed JP. Now you've made me want to read them both again. That'll be something to do in the new year.

    • @slytherinslioness
      @slytherinslioness 6 років тому

      destructionsnakepit Oh, man. The day I understood the science in JP was wonderful! I read it for the first time at age 11, so rereading it in high school gave me a completely different experience! I still enjoy the science. It’s one of my favorite things about Crichton’s writing.
