Super cool idea, but YIKES at the cost. After materials and STL costs, my rough math is about $400USD, 7-14 spools a filament! 12 Days of solid printing time, the power costs, hardware. Holy cow this is an investment. You could buy readymade enclosures cheaper.

I did the same, but no tinfoil :D I used it to print the parts for my Voron v0 on a printer that had an all-metal hotend (thanks to an upgrade) but otherwise wasn't really meant to print ASA. It worked surprisingly well. I just cut 2 sides off a box (back and bottom) and then cut a hole in the front and then attached one of the cut-off sides to the front as a flap for access. Worked really well since I could take the whole thing off easily if needed, or just lift the flap for quick access.

I love this! I know that it is a ton of filament and you can buy premade enclosures, but the versatility is what makes it amazing. It can adjust to whatever printer you want and even if you end up using a different enclosure down the road, it has the potential to be configured for a lot more than 3d printing.
Thanks Jessy, best video I’ve seen on this so far!

Printing mine right now. Holy crap it takes a while! Got the game done, it was a little confusing but only printed 4 extra parts. The walls look like they'll be easier, I put them on their face and layed them out in the slicer to make sure I'm getting the correct ones with the right amount. I'm printing the door right now. Instead of a pegboard I think I'm going to go with a honeycomb wall, or another that is a octagon, and epoxy the spacers to it and then attach the frame. I like those options better than the pegboard. I have over a day of printing to finish just the door though! This is by far the biggest project I have ever done!

Hard to say as I was using a bunch of left over spools, which is why some of the black panel parts colors dont match. I would say around 4 rolls of black pla. Maybe 3 or 4 of the Marble PLA for the door/side (I also printed a ton of the trim pieces but was pressed for time). Maybe 1 roll of orange for the pegboard. Around 8 rolls for everything i was showing in the video is my best guess.

Really interested in getting this, but I have a question. I understand the enclosure's overall size can be customized, but what's the length/size of the smallest extension ? By the looks of it, one piece looks like it's about 5" in length, so the case's length in any axis can be increased/decreased in 5" intervals ?

  • @davidzizza

Jessy, hope you’ll spare me a moment of your time to answer a question regarding the 3D enclosure. I have bought the files and have printed the Standard size enclosure. Also printed the peg board back and the front doors. Before I choose a theme, I want to make sure to make the right painting choices. Structure was printed in PETG (to future proof for potential high-temp projects). For the doors, I assume I can layer the theme on the front doors with PLA. But for the mural, there is no underlayment. Still use PETG? Also, for the doors and mural, what amount of detail can I expect to lose if I decide to spray paint rather than say choose a filament in the color and texture I want and simply add painterly highlights? FYI considering the Egypt theme, and was thinking Rustoleum Desert Bisque or maybe some brand of Sandstone filament. Thanks again.

Alright if like Uncle Jessy here you have a load of big fast pricey core xy klipper printers to do the mad amount of parts.
And I see a problem with the idea.? Any 3D printer inside this encloser will soon over heat due to the base electronics being in there with the printer!
You would need to raise the encloser up to a level on feet that let's you fit a floor section load of panels to just below the level of the bed supporting frame so the bed moves and the floor sits around there sealing the base with those picky heat disliking electronics away from all the heat in the encloser it's self.

@@UncleJessy PLA for a printer enclosure what were you thinking? The only reason to have an enclosure is to be able to print high temp filaments that need a 60+ degree chamber which will soften PLA :( This has to be printed with higher temp filamant to be useful IMO!
So $120 guess in mat costs ( if all print perfect in 1st run) + $58 to back and for $199 I can buy a nicer enclosure that can withstand high temps!

I was thinking the same thing, even just printing more PLA, heat will build up in the enclosure and I feel that it would just be a matter of time till things started sagging and warping.

It would have to be printed in Petg or ASA plus the side panels it's going to end up costing well over $300Aud in Filament and weeks or printing if you want to make enclosures for at least 2 printers. Plus add-ons. Acrylic Panels are not cheap either. That's a Very expensive enclosure in the end

Not sure I could afford enough filament to print one for my Neptune 4 Max.. lol
Some Star Wars theme panels, or HR Giger, or Temple of Gozer from Ghostbusters.. or Indiana Jones.. I'm sure some fans will come up with panels after it's released.

While this is all cool and whatnot, what is the actual purpose? I mean it costs a lot of material and time, plus takes space. I do not see the need to "hide" the printer like that. Does it provide any other benefit, like sound dampening, heat insulation, VOC containment?

For as much as you push Elegoo products, it was very interesting to hear that for your own side projects you use every other printer you own except for Elegoo printers.

My gripe with this is that it seems so flimsy on all vids i've seen it on. The frame parts look more like designed for injection molding than 3d printing.
FDM can do chunky parts, but they opted for thin wall like injection molded.

Hi Uncle Jesse what computer do you use to slice your 3d models. I want to get into 3d printing and wanted to know what computer you use and what filament you would recommend. Thank you and have a great day!

Great news, you dont need any sort of fancy machine for slicing 3D files. I run on a macbook but just about any PC will work as well. Right now I'm loving Elegoo basic PLA on amazon. Pretty affordable and prints great on most printers

I bought a grow tent on Amazon to house my printers. It costs less than the large number of kilos of filament needed for this and holds multiple printers and most of my filament. I appreciate the modularity of this design but it's a bit of a waste of plastic

    • @UncleJessy
      @UncleJessy  Рік тому +2

Yup that is a totally doable option. Or there are enclosure kits on sites like matterhackers. What I think some people will like about this is that that can make it how they want or have it look a certain way depending on what they like. All about what options are best for you and your needs/budget/time etc 🤘

To be Temp resistant which is the whole reason for an enclosure to print high temp material filaments at controlled temperatures. You would have to use Petg or ASA would be Crazy expensive especially with side panels or acrylic panels. PLA is useless to hsve a temp controlled enclosure as it will deform over time and not handle heat at all. What a Waste. It looks Great but does not serve the Purpose by using PLA.
