l`ll never forget the 1st time playing this game as a kid and just having my mind blown. The graphics, the story cut scenes and the unforgettable music. This game was a masterpiece and still is
@@parijat95 In 1990 the first week it released. I loved the first game so much, I couldn`t wait for this. I wasn`t a fan of part3 ancient ship of doom, but the first 2 games are some of my all time favorite 8 bit side scrollers
This is by far the BEST episode of anyone covering my favourite game of all time. The way youre talking , tips like the gamepro days, the informative, and thought process as if the player is playing for the first time. really enjoyable video! :)
This is definitely the best Ninja Gaiden game!, plus Ashtar is definitely one my favorite characters, I can't wait for the playthrough of Ninja Gaiden 3❤
I still have my old Ninja Gaiden book I bought back in junior high which was one of the books in the book set of The Worlds of Power books. Still read it whenever I am flying across the country to pass the time and is just a great story! I highly recommend anyone to find a copy and be sucked in a great "cheesy" read!
For my money, this is the best soundtrack on the NES. Every tune is on point and super cool/fun. The song that accompanies the opening cutscene, "Chaosium Sword", may be my favorite NES track, and is one of my favorite pieces of music. (Solstice and Journey to Silius are close)
My friend. This is a TRULY OUTSTANDING CHANNEL ! There are alot of playthru/walk-through Channels, But non are as indepth as the videos you have made here. Great memories for an Old-Head like me. & Great for someone seeing These NES games for the first time. So many things in video games got their starts on the NES & MEGA DRIVE.
Thanks my man ..you actually did Ninja Gaiden 2 ..this was always better than part 1 to me..Love your work and the memories watching your channel brings back
I've always liked the 2nd game of the trilogy the most myself too. Ninja Gaiden 2 had better mechanics, graphics, game controls, level design, and more balanced difficulty than the original game.
I should note for fellow viewers that the phantom doubles only look right at 60fps, because it flickers at that rate. At UA-cam's default 30fps, they're either solid or invisible. (just like NES sprite flicker made to get around the sprite-per-line limit)
I had no idea that my NES could weave and present a cinematic story until I brought home this game - it's a rare breed of challenging gameplay married to an excellent production 👍
I really love this game it was an emotional rollercoaster lol. I was so pissed when Ashtar stabbed Irene. Then he turned out being easy to defeat. You think you lost your woman at end, but a higher power brings her back.
I still have my original cartridge remember buying it in 1990 at Toys R Us cost $54 back then.. thanks for the code 31 years later had no idea it existed.
For the record, Ninja Gaiden 2 takes place after 3, since the Dragon Sword sacrifices itself to revive Irene. So the chronological order is 1, 3 then 2.
Hallelujah! Thanks man, love your vids. Keep it up! You helped throughout many a game. I used to suck at NES games, but I started looking at this channel. After beating a few games, I can beat most NES games without a walkthrough. I had to come back to this tho, because, well, it’s ninja gaiden…
43:50 Nice Windmill Star to the keister of the invincible Kelbeross. I like to think that one survived and became free of Jaquio. Probably because the Kelbeross were always my favorite creatures in this franchise.
I'd love to see more videos on the RPGs of the NES! Your Dragon Quest/Warrior I video was very fun, but you have III waiting, with its many secrete, side quests, and genre-defining moments (including the notorious puff-puff!)
This was my favorite game, but I was heartbroken at the thought of the magic of the dragon sword being used up to save Irene. As a child I thought "that means his magic weapon is useless". I did love Ashtar's design.
Your either an NES savant or you really put an unbelievable amount of hours in. Everytime I watch a video of yours I'm.. just in awe of your knowledge and skill
My all time favorite game on the NES. Love all NG2 music. I look forward to your videos when I wind down for the night. Keep them coming. Appreciate you bruhhh. #gameon🕹
Guns are not threats to screw with, but one of the problems with them is it can be real tempting to over rely on them. What is one to do when one over relies on Guns then encounters a situation where they just can't cut it? Food for thought, Irene...? ;)
1:05:13 Maybe she wasn't dead. Maybe she was possessed or something. She said she feels like she'd been sleeping for a long time and has no memory, which is a staple of possession. Maybe she wasn't used by the demon in quite the way you think but she was actually possessed. It would explain how she was there at the end.
19:50 "the malice 4" has to be a localiased version of the japanese word shitennō AKA “the Four Heavenly Kings”. 100% worth your time reading about this if you consume japanese media regularly. legends of localization has an excellent article if anyone seeing this is interested in knowing more.
Out of all the NES games, I spent the most time on this next to SMB. Everything about it is so classic. I had this game memorized as a kid, and this vid is a pleasant blast from the past!
Both the second and the third game were great and challenging. I personally didn't know any tricks and shortcuts (if there were any to assume), so I had a hard time beating them the hard way lol, always fun to watch you play all these classics I've also grown up with.
This was awesome! I can't wait for your Ninja Gaiden 3 walkthrough. That game has kicked my ass since I was a kid, and I never cheated to see the end of the story.
Easily my favorite of the NES trilogy. I love its dep Lovecraftian vibes (which, BTW, were intentional - the game's director wanted to make something similar in tone and theme to H P Lovecraft, but without using Lovecraft's constantly referenced work).
Seeing the next cutscenes was a great way for players to want to persevere the hard difficulty. This was rare for NES games to tell a story with actual cutscenes like from a comic book. This was the only Ninja Gaiden game I beat as a kid and you are right, even a easy Ninja Gaiden game is quite difficult as I died so many times on the final level and bosses, but it felt so great when I finally beat it.
i remember giving u shit for a very slow delivery way early in this journey ur on. U responded, and i havent picked up on it since. Your gonna be 100k sooner then later, and im just proud to be here to see it. Ur work speaks for itself my dude. Awesome dog btw.
Great playthrough and break down. One more thing worth mentioning. If you kill any of the forms and die that form is permanently dead, even if you continue. You get sent back but when you get back to the boss rush whatever forms you killed will not show up again. Makes the games much easier to deal with. It works this way for all 3 games. NG3 was the hardest for me due to the limited continues but still has that feature. NG1 was very irritating due to sending you back so far but it also saved what boss forms you killed and had infinite continues, like part 2.
This is my favorite ninja gaiden game. The music and game play is good. Not super hard to beat. I beat part 1 and 2. However part 3 that is a whole another level. Would love to see you do that one.
This was the first (and only) game in the trilogy I ever played as a kid. I got it for a Christmas present one year. I loved it but I couldn't beat that Baron Spider boss without losing a lot of lives - the next stage always gave me a game over so that was as far as I ever got. The biggest thing I like about this game over the original is that you can climb up and down on all walls instead of just certain ones like the original.
I used to wreck this game. Run through without dying, no problem. I used to love running through the lightning stage without stopping for a second. My favorite stage.
"Yes!" - my answer to the first question. Ninja Gaiden 3 has the issue of "let's make it needlessly harder in America", which was rare but did indeed happen (for example, Mad City became silly in terms of difficulty when it became Bayou Billy). Excellent video as always!
I always interpret the NG1 bosses as common enemies as more like the bosses from the first game were just normal mooks for the Chaos Tribe. NG2 had one of the best midi soundtracks, but was certainly the easiest of anything bearing the Ninja Gaiden brand mostly due to shadow clones being OP cheese. All that's left is the ridiculously overtuned NA version of NG3 for the old school trilogy.
3 роки тому+1
Yes, I always interpreted like that, now Ryu is that powerful that the old bosses are mere enemies. However, I think Ninja Gaiden III is way more easier, that was the first Ninja Gaided that I finished!
@ I thought 3 was by far the hardest as I couldn't get to the end of it like I could the first 2. Limited continues hurt and I found out way later that the US version was harder to hurt game rentals
Fantastic playthrough. I've tried several times to beat it and all ends in Jaquio killing me. And as far as I know that Ninja Gaiden III is not the sequel to the second game but sequel to Ninja Gaiden I
I know it's not limited to this game, but those are some perfect stage intro tunes! Dang, the graphics in this one are so amazing! 👏 😍 and these cutscenes are ridiculously long and detailed! I also loved Rob was lefthanded (except in that one scene). I didn't think nes games could look like this, probably because I avoided these b/c hard, but also I was more into the cartoony ones, and this isn't even super late into the nes lifespan. Are you going to do Holy Diver as well, since you're doing the Ninja Gaiden games?
I beat all 3 of these back int he day all on real nes. No game genie, no cheats, not even a manual for any of them, rented. All 3. I am like Al bundy witrh his 4 touchdowns in a single game. it is my greatest achievement of my life. And gonies 2 aas well which is INSANE.
As someone who's played this game dozens of times as a kid, first of all, AWESOME video, and I love your hints on it. However, I think I have a little more accurate insight on the story of the game. I know the cutscenes are hard to interpret, not being actual anime cutscenes, but I think I picked up on a few things. Firstly, when Ashtar taunts Ryu in the Maze of Darkness, I think it's implied that Ashtar is dragging Irene through the maze just ahead of Ryu until he gets him where he needs him to be. Jaquio set up Ashtar as a puppet as part of this elaborate "contingency plan" in case he was defeated at the temple in South America (and while we're at it, I have no idea what business a Japanese demon's body has being buried in Brazil). So Ashtar is just gloating from just barely around every corner in the so-called "Maze"... not using magic or whatever. Secondly, when you defeat Ashtar, he DOES die right in front of you. He does use teleportation, but he's using it on the Sword of Chaos to send it to Jaquio, since Ashtar knows his role in the story is done at this point. Third, in Act 6, when we check on Robert and Irene, they are struggling to keep up with Ryu, and it is Irene who is huffing and out of breath, not Robert. Fourth, the demon Jashin is the "spirit released after the battle" that Jaquio is referring to in Act 7. He just needed the Sword of Chaos fully powered up to awaken it within him and become the ultimate evil. On that note, the prophecy Ashtar was speaking in Act 5 ("To the one who releases darkness with *the immortal blood* , he shall receive the power of the Almighty Evil") refers to Jaquio, who resurrected at the end of NG1 (effectively now being immortal). Ashtar and Jaquio pretty much were counting on this outcome. Lastly, I only learned this myself later in life, but Ninja Gaiden 3 takes place six months after NG1 but also six months BEFORE NG2. So... you know... she already "died" once, which should have meant that Ryu has already gone through "losing her" once already, so... yeah. I blame that on NG3 being a case of sequelitis for the franchise. :)
Thanks for the explanation here. I myself was wondering about Ashtar after his fight with Ryu (my avatar here, by the way), and as it turns out, Ashtar did manage to beckon the Sword of Chaos, it seems, to go on with the plan of releasing Darkness over the world. I always wondered, if maybe, both the Dragon Sword and Sword of Chaos were actually alive, in a sense, especially since both swords awakened either Jaquio or Irene, respectively. In any case, both swords did perish, having fulfilled any purpose for their existence, seeing there was no longer any more threat of eternal darkness overcoming the world, and Irene being resurrected as well. Anyway, great ending to the series nonetheless. Irene and Ryu do seem to be meant for one another, though they almost look more like brother and sister, rather than potential lovers, but if they got married, maybe the Dragon Clan could be revived and reborn through their union. Thanks for the input on the psychology and overall background on the game's story, as it puts things into perspective rather nicely.
Nice job! I got through ninja gaiden 1 this time last year while RUNNING behind our NES Bike as part of a wellness challenge. I’d honestly be more scared of NG2 while running, I’m not as practiced with this one.
3:23 these goofy villains and cutscenes are reminding me of valis (which pc engine voiced and 4 especially is better than snes as ya got 3 playable characters). Still, this is better than that awful valis 2 or the nintendo hard NG3. 18:34 boss demotions before maximum carnage lol

The problems with NGIII was enemies do double damage and limited continues, meaning game over, start from level 1.

I just checked out that video. You're nuts (in a good way, haha)! Super props!
@@TrevinAdams hahah thank you, Trevin. I appreciate that!
Absolutely, this is my favorite one from the trilogy!
I have beat Ninja Gaiden in 22 min. yet still haven't made it through part 2. Thanks for the awesome guide!
"...modern players that attempt this game will have to deal with all of the challenges that the NES is NO-TOUR-IOUS for."
Ninja gaiden, ghost and goblins, ninja turtles, and battletoads to name a few are games that make soul like games look easy. 😅
I finally beat this for the first time today… to think that people can do this in under 10 mins is mind-blowing to me. Thanks for the tips!
I am so glad that I bought this game on Wii U Virtual Console before this video was uploaded. I even finished the game last month.
Just visited your website, can't believe how many episodes you have already released :-)
I love this channel bro, my favorite nes game 🙌🏾🙌🏾💯💯🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
"The spirit released after our battle flowed into my body." The spirit of the Demon.
Another great video. I forgot how good Ninja Gaiden II is.
Easily my Favorite channel on UA-cam.
"That sounds like the breakdown part in the middle of a Boyz II Men song." 🤣🤣🤣!!!! The exact song and part are now stuck in my head.
this is a wonderful thing to wake up to. of the NES trilogy, i had a soft spot for this one in particular.
So much smiling nostalgia!! Love the channel!!
