Ahoy everyone!
My name is Nike and I have been living and sailing on my sailboat Karl since 2013. After a massive refit marathon, I finally cast off the lines and learnt to solo sail my 37-foot Reinke Super 10 that I called "Karl". I am publishing videos (at the moment every two weeks) about the ups and downs of living, repairing and sailing my boat.
Since January 2022, I have a new permanent crew member: my furry friend Boga. When I started out, I did not know much about boat repair or solo sailing. Since I am still out there, I hope that my story inspires others, to chase their dreams, even if they might think they are not cut out for it. There is always a way, so I'll see you out there!

Thanks to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this epic adventure with me so far. It would not have been the same without you!
Lots of ocean love, Nike🧜♀, Boga 🐾 and KARL ⛵
#solosailing #sailingwithdogs #sailorgirl #singlehandedsailing #solopassage #soloboatlife
I Love the shot of Boga looking in the window when you were talking about the bones.😂
😂 dogs sense it from miles when food containers are opened or food is even just remotely talked about 😂
Your furry sister is a wonderful companion. Every time you go out there in to the ocean alone, it’s so inspiring. Fair winds.
Your dog is So cute!!
JUST DISCOVERED YOUR CHANNEL. IM LOVING YOUR ADVENTURE . YOUR INSPIRING MANY OF US TO FOLLOW OUR DREAMS .
sweet dog
Cliffhanger! Safe travels, Nike. ❤
Gotta do them every once in a while to keep u entertained 😋
I also use a very old stove top coffee pot.
😂"this is where Maria was hit by a storm" 😬 what a cliffhanger.
I totally get the tears when leaving El Salvador. Can’t thank you enough for telling us about this amazing country and it’s warm people. A two week stay has turned into six weeks so far and we still haven’t set a departure date. Love you and say hi to Boga.
I knew it would be right up your alley 💕 so happy you are enjoying ur time there. wish I were there with you exploring! Miss you guys 😘
Great suspense ...
😂😋
Always great videos. You are one tough chica.
Safe travels.
That was the perfect start to my day over coffee, thank you :)
Happy to hear that! Hope the rest of the days goes on smoothly too
You seem very relaxed setting off on this passage. I assume its because you were well prepared. The good thing about it being hard to leave a place or people is you know your time was well spent.
Your Spanish is excellent
You are amazing. Leaving a warm and fuzzy community, to venture into the unknown. You just did what most people in the world say they would like to do but don't have the courage to do. I have to live in your shadow because I'm one of those. Thank you for taking me along.
It was bloody hard, Dennis, believe me. When Paul mentioned he was gonna build a floating house I thought "hm, I could live here, couldn`t I?" But then again, I felt that I was not quite "there" yet. I think that both, leaving and staying, have their hardship and their wonderful parts. Being free to decide which one I want to pursue is what I feel extremely grateful for. Maybe it`s not about courage but about preference. Maybe there is something that you value more in staying than in leaving, have you ever thought about it that way?
Perception is everything! ❤
Stability, I liked the comfort/ security of work, pay check and family. I do and don't understand the ability to live life on the edge of what's over the next hill, around the next bend, across the next body of water. With you I can live my adventures side while I drink my coffee in my favorite easy chair. Thank you.
I am partially in the same boat!
Ended too soon. going to have to wait for next episode. Safe travels. Edit: I would love to be able to correct the Auto Generated subtitles. They are mostly correct, but there are a few errors.
I'd be too scared to solo sail in the dark, so I'd probably sleep more in daylight and stay awake in the dead of night. 😱
I actually do the same. I sleep most from 5 to 10am actually. But I still rest during the night but cannot really call that “sleep” 😅
I know it's very hard saying goodbye to good friends! Are you planning on sailing as far as Mexico? At least it is warmer there. We had 4 days of snow and wind here. Safe travels from the east coast of Canada.
Wunsche guten fahrt hoffe das ich meine mexica reise dich mal kennenlernen lg 😮
Can I ask why you don't transmit AIS?
Sure! So my VHF only receives, cannot transmit AIS. Back then when I bought it, the ones where u were also transmitting you could not decide to switch it off temporarily. There are times I surely don’t want to transmit. I don’t see a big safety plus to transmit. Most big cargo vessels have the “sport boats” switched off and the chance to run into a sailboat where I sail are extremely limited. So to me it does not add to my safely, it rather takes away from it because people can track me… 🤷🏼♀️
Out of interest in which country do you pay taxes on your income, your homeland, or where the boat is registered, or elsewhere?
My home country is the same where my boat is registered and that’s also where I do my taxes.
little like messi travel 😅 safe Passage 🤙
😂 i call it Creative chaos! 😋
😀👍👍👍❤❤
Just a drama Queen 🤔
Nice to see you in action!
I hope your leg is doing better.
Thanks for posting and sharing.
It is beyond me why this woman hasn't got a million subscribers .....
Thx Ben. But honestly, I wonder what I would do with so many followers. The good thing about being a smaller size channel is that I can still answer comments myself 😋
@WhiteSpotPirates I am blessed with a direct reply from you too.😊 THAT is Nice. So I guess I in some way agree;-). But, I really just wish you a more financially stable following, not that I truly understand what that is or amount to.
Thank you for your inspiring videos... and answer😊.
@@benhessner5869 yeah that would be nice…it’s definitely gotten a lot harder financially because the competition has gotten quite big and quite good ☺️ But I also cannot complain. There are surely other remote jobs that make more money but I also like how I get to share my travels with so many and hopefully plant some seeds here and there for people to go chase their own adventures.
The competition isn't really doing What you're doing, so you are good there. Looking at your videos, I don't really see that you lack anything, compared to other channels.... but.... I am just another viewer.
I just wish you safe travels. And a million subs, so the adventure can continue 😊😅. Very much looking forward to your next adventure/video
@@benhessner5869 , @WhiteSpotPirates The competition IS doing something to keep the subscribers curios, other than clickbait as this episode is.
I was an early and avid follower of the channel, but lost interest when a lot of nothing started to (not) happen.
Too much SITTING in an anchorage for a SAILING / travel channel.
Too much depression and whining and too little movement / action / diversity.
I love to see again the combat spirit that Nike inspired us with so many times during the DOING part of this channel's history.
You can only cheer that much a player that just sits in the around middle of the field.
This is my opinion as a former marketing person on why this does not grow up as much as its (large) potential.
Good job, Nike, that you started to move again.
Just don't stop.
The world is full of great people. All you have to do is take your time to meet them. Too many people rush through life.
Very true 🥰
Have a beautifull voyage enjoy it with boga beautiful dog.
A wonderfully evocative tale … all of us who’ve made a passage know the feels … good byes, fears, uncertainties, pleasures, tiredness, fears … and expectation. Go, Nike, you’re an inspiring sailor and a wonderful narrator. Quite the cliff-hanger tho …. did I mention fears …. 😅
Thank you, Roy. Yes, it`s a potpourri of many different feelings all coming towards one duing a short period of time, hahaha!
This brought a tear to my eye, enjoy seeing Boga playing with his friends and his new ones at sea, your videos are so well put together...I've been watching a bunch of Paul's videos on his channel, I hope he keeps posting showing the progress on his floating home, I've grown quite fond of the salty old boy...Looking forward to your adventures in Mexico, hoping you visit the east central coast of Oaxaca if possible...Love and respect, stay safe.
Great to see and hear you after me being absent for quite a while.
Welcome back 🤗
Remember as a sailor it’s never goodbye it’s always see you later 😉 ! Thanks for another great video! If you ever make it to Barbados which is mainly where I hang , sometimes though off Saint Lucia I’ll buy you a drink and swap stories! If in the med my home is Palermo Sicily and I can be found there to. I also hang in Costa Rica during hurricane season. Pura Vida!! Fair winds and Fins Up lady!
Most people think it is silly to talk to a dog. I don't. They seem to listen and maybe understand a bit of what you are saying. I had the same with horses.
What? Why would that be silly? Did you see the way she looked at me? She totally understood each and every word ;)))))
living on a boat, sailing around is the last freedom the world will know
"This is not wine, this is water..." SuuuuUUuuure! ;-)
Darn NIke. You make a video I watch it, and think this is the sweetest video, and a week later you make a sweeter one.
Cheers,
a.
😂😂😂 suuuuuure….! I don’t think I could be at sea drunk. Or maybe drunk but surely not hung over 😅. Happy to hear that u are enjoying the videos. 🙏🏼
@@WhiteSpotPirates I agree, I run a dry boat. We do not have a drink unless safely anchored and nothing in the forecast and even then only one of the two of us will indulge. My comment was "tong and cheeks" (I think that is an English expression").
Cheers,
a.
QUE TENGAS UNA EXCELENTE SINGLADURA CAPITANA !!!! TE MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE LATITUD 34 ARGENTINA BUENOS VIENTOS Y MUCHA CERVEZA FRIA !!!!!
The good side and the bad side of cruising. You meet great people and must say goodbye to some great people. It is not actually goodbye it should be until we meet again.
literally: Auf Wiedersehen
Yes very true! And what’s David said: in German “goodbye” is literally “until we see each other again”
Kudos. Nicely filmed and edited.
Thanks Mark!
I just want to comment too that I love that you wear your safety line ( and for your fur baby!)!! So many ameratures fail into wear one or a life vest/harness ( and I am in no way calling you one I’m calling those “seasoned sailors like yourself them because not wearing safety gear makes them novices!) especially it’s most common to see a lack of safety wear on catamarans oddly when they are wayyyyyy less safe on blue water than any sailboat! I think they get over confident thinking they’re going to experience condition in shoreline cat-ing on blue water which is totally wrong 😂🤣 I’ve rolled in 40’ waves and bobbed back upright and lived to tell a dozen times in deep blue , ever hear of a catamaran rolling all the way over?? Yeah no 🤣😂🤣 smart sailors wear a life line/tether especially when solo sailing and even smarter ones tether their fur babies!! You never can predict the ocean no matter how deep you are so kudos for all your brains and logic! 👍🏼💙
I hate goodbyes.... 😭.....prefer "see you laters".
I have been following you from day one. This video was one of the best. Take care.
Ah thank u Pete. And thanks for traveling along for such a long time already 🙏🏼
@@WhiteSpotPirates Well, I can just tell you, if I was a young guy, I would be chasing you, you are a very exciting and beautiful woman, but take care of your self, you are traveling in a part of the world, where it could be dangerous. Looking forward to your next video. Pete
I do wish you had a partner with you especially on these long passages. I mean you are more than able to do this alone as you have proved but I would feel much better if you had a first mate. No offense Boga, you are adorable but I think mama should have a little help. Love your vids youngin.
There's a hashtag of #solosailing in the description.
Happy to see this is happening again.
#sittingatanchor was not that motivating anymore.
Buenas noches, Wouu! Que buen canal. Te gustaria que fuera doblado al español?
My fondest memories is when I lived in Panama
🧿👍
Beautiful woman wants to date me lol
Sailing again, nice!
ich bin gespannt darauf, dich kennenzulernen.
What’s up with your AIS? You mention you’re not using it?
Nothing is up with it. Apart that the GPS connection was buggered up so I had to re-wire it shortly. My AIS only receives, does not transmit. Nothing up with it, that`s just the way it came ;)))
Your courage is truly inspiring. I bet many of us watching you have said it more than once that you are a true testament that things don’t get done just by thinking but by the act of doing. I can’t wait for your next video. Fair winds.
Holding you close in your sadness over leaving those dear ones, my friend. There's a time for everything. Your time for settling will come, but now is your time for sailing.
Thanks for sharing Nike and stay safe .
Amazing courage! Thanks for the video !!
Hola Nike and woof, woof to Boga!
Thanks for posting.
Cheers, SV Good Karma as Grins.
When you have crew, where do they stay?
Thank you for the video. That would be challenging leaving such wonderful people. I wonder what is inside of me that causes me to choose the same?
I think it may be a continued pursuance of essential and simple living but many do that on land. 🤷🏻 and maybe explanations are a persuit of an over complicated mind 😂
Still, very few things compare with the wind pushing one to a destination.
Fair winds and following seas…though it looks like it’s freshening for the next video 💨
Good byes. Under sail. 2 of 3 days completed.
Just great respect for you! I wish I could send my wife out with you for a month to teach her to sail and get her sea legs. Fair winds and fun in Mexico!
Reason for not sending AIS? (Just curious)
R/V Thomas G. Thompson!!! Spent 40 days on that ship in the Galapagos in 2005.
Always great to see what you are up to on Karl. Good job with the show, not so good job on keeping tidy. Love ya sweetie!!
The pull of Karl is to great. Must sail.
Nike is the best!
You go kid! Great vid.
Thank you!
Nice to see you on the move.
👏👏👏
