    With twin engines you can moor fairly easily, put one In forward and the other in reverse it brings the boat to one side. You can run a Grand Banks like this on your own but a second person makes it easier.

    It’s a twin engine single engine usually have a bow thruster

    That is a gorgeous vessel. To my mind a proper small ship. Nicely parked with no stress - come and watch it here in The Solent, it’s a far more nerve shredding experience for many skippers.
    Can you rent a Grand Banks (Trawler Yacht - two people, no kids!!) for a week in the US? There only appears to be NW Explorations in Bellingham, about twenty miles south of Vancouver. We were looking for somewhere warmer on the east coast.....

      Phil B glad you are enjoying the videos. I believe you may find a Grand Banks to charter in Florida from Southwest Florida Yachts (AGLCA Sponsors) or Chitwood. Good Luck.

      Ask Captain Chris: Many thanks for that I’ll have a look. We’ll be in USA In June/July this year but on a motorcycle, sadly not near Florida otherwise we’d pop in. Keep up the excellent videos.

      Check with South West Florida Yachts, hope their boats survived the recent Hurricane IAN. SW FL Yachts is near Fort Myers, FL - Ground Zero for the hurricane.

      yeah, twin engine. I was cheating a bit in that most GB 42 classics are twin engine. Though a skilled captain could have easily done that with a single screw setup

    Twin engines ~ Looks like a 46 classic. Looks like two people ~ single ear headset leaves an ear uncovered for awareness.

    Twin engine 42 classic me thinks. Interesting that I was wondering about the big fenders being below the top edge of the wall. I see indents in the side...I wonder if that would pose a problem.

      Ian Adkins these fenders appear to be of a good size and are appropriately positioned on the widest part of the boat for the wall they are moving toward. If the piling are protruding too far off the wall for these fenders to be effective (as we can’t really see it from our filming location) they might try using a fender board. Here is a link to another video with detailed description of how to use them ua-cam.com/video/Rzi5PmmJbEY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.

    I'm not sure but my guess is one engine (maybe plus one small emergency engine not being used here). I think if they had two engines, we would see it using prop walk with port engine in reverse to drag the stern more to the dock. I think it looks like they only use the engine in forward with the rudder to port to push the stern to starboard.

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  4 роки тому +1

      skunkjobb I believe it is a twin engine. And they were not racing the throttles which would have shown extreme prop wash so it’s difficult to see. Look closely at the stern and you will see an exhaust pipe on each side of the stern at the water level.

      @@AskCaptainChris I noticed the two exhaust pipes and they are a quite strong indication of there being two engines even if it would be possible with two pipes from one engine only for the looks. I think the prop wash looks quite centered but it's hard to tell.

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  4 роки тому

      skunkjobb it is difficult to tell but Grand Banks did not make that boat with a single V-8 engine. That’s the only way you’d have two exhaust pipes.

      @@AskCaptainChris Aha, that settles it then, two engines it is.

    Nice docking, but could have been better if they would have spun here (right engine forward, left reverse) as they begun the turn into the dock.

      They still landed well, no yelling or running around crazy.

    It’s a 42’ classic so it’s got twins as they didn’t make a single in42’

      And, you can see the two exhaust splashes on each side of the transom.

      GB did in fact build the 42 with single engines. They are rare, but out there.

      Steven Sneep then this isn’t the channel for you. 🤷🏻‍♂️ New boat owners come here to learn and be encouraged that they can do it too. May all your dockings be this easy and joyful. 😎
