As a Brit, where baseball practically is only an American thing, I have to say I utterly loved 'Eight Men Out'.
I don't know anything about baseball, but after that film I truly believe I felt the enormity of what the White Sox did, and I genuinely appreciate everyone involved in that film for communicating that part of history so well.

So very soulfully delivered by Ms. Harris. You feel the pain and blues of a jilted lover. Sad, but at the same time defiant.

My favorite version of a favorite song. Anyone who's been jilted feels this way. Leigh Harris sings it best. It wrapped up the movie well, too, as a parable for divided loyalties and lost innocence.

    Leigh Harris (July 27, 1954 - September 21, 2019) RIP Ms. Harris.

One of the best versions of this marvelous song that I have ever heard - and what a moving finish it gives to the greatest baseball movie ever made. (Fiona Apple's rendition of "After You've Gone" at a record store event, posted here at UA-cam, is also aces, and very different in style from Harris's.)

I remember when they threw the series. It was not easy to spot to the untrained eye. So sad

Hmmmm. . . Eydie Gorme's is an excellent interpretation -- very beautiful. However, I prefer this one -- Ms. Harris's vocals are earthier and "bluesier," which fit the lyrics perfectly. And this was the perfect song to end such a wonderful film with.

Dunno if you got in touch with Leigh but she is playing tonight in Durham NC and pretty sure she's performing at N.O's next jazzfest. Just wanted to give you a heads up so that you may see and speak with your friend again. And yes, that is her.

@PetericL Yes, it does seem perfect, just like Tom Waits singing 'Good Night, Irene', fits like a glove.
    Thanks for the comments.

@@melindabell6677 Thanks I've known her since high school, back in the "hippie days" . She got a hold of an acoustic guitar and worked her tail off ! Then I didn't see her much for a few years and next thing she's in a rockin' R & B band with a stage name of Lil' Queenie with some serious NOLA talent ! And us uptown boys were so busy playin' hard rock with limited success and she's a headliner at the clubs that ignored us ! Well she sure showed us , LOL !! She really had Janis Joplin type talent back then and we were too stoopid to back her . God Bless you , Leigh !!

Correction- I purchased and downloaded 192 mp3s of the soundtrack CD. Most are pretty ordinary excepting Ms. Harris' two versions of When I've gone (the one here is better) and I Be Blue.
It was either ITunes or Amazon.com, not sure.
DOnt tknow if still available though....

Yes, Ilike the filma lot too. About the song and the film credits, I actually thought theportion you're referring to took attention awayfrom the song so I discarded the video part after the extracted the audio. Sorry, but I know what you mean about'happier times'
