Once again thank you so much! I'm happy that I have a 98 TJ as do you. For the One sensor that you said to be careful with would it make sense to pull it out or is that too risky? Thank you again

Thank you for watching! I don’t know if I think removing the sensor is that necessary to do. I believe you can do the job without impacting the sensor. My personal opinion is some of those sensors come with the sealant versus using the appropriate tape. I would not remove it just to adjust my belt.

After removing the coolant bottle and using the only 15mm I had, a deep well, and it being too long, a 15mm open end got in there perfectly.

Thank you for watching. How often I forget that my open end wrenches are always an option. Thank you for sharing. I find myself always adding to my tools with both deep well and shallow sockets. One works for one job doesn't work for the other. It seems it is always my excuse for buying another socket.

I could hear you fine. I was about to adjust mine because the belt squeals when the AC clutch engages. It stops after everything warms up but I don't like it. Thanks for the videos

My tensioner bolt had seized and snapped right off. Ordered a new bolt kit and thought it would be a good time to replace the idler pulleys and serpentine belt. My biggest fear in mechanics is breaking bolts 😬 gonna stock up on anti seize

Hi John, I have the exact same jeep model 1997 tj 4.0 sahara and doing this same job as the belt is squeeling more regular on startup.
Do you know what size the belt should be? Just incase someone has put the incorrect sized belt on in the past because from what I saw earlier it looks almost completely adjusted, but I will see soon.
Just in case I need to get a new belt would be good to just know what size you have on as a second opinion? says 6pk2260 on mine (gates belt).
    Cheers

UPDATE Adjustment worked a treat, NO SQUEEL, fantastic - however I am close to the limit of the thread for adjustment. I think the stock belt is meant to be approx 2230mm long so it is probably why I am towards the limit when adjusting this 2260mm belt. Still would be good to confirm the original belt length though.

Great question and let's see if my answer makes sense. There are a few different sizes for the TJ's based on some information needed - for my 1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0 L Sahara (With Air Conditioning) the size of the belt is as follows: Top width 13/16 inches or 20 mm. Outside length is 91 11/16" or 2329 mm. Gates has a micro-V serpentine belt model number K06910. The number of ribs is 6. If it does not have air conditioning, then the belt is shorter in length for this specific model. Without air conditioning, my belt length would be 79 7/16 inches or 2018mm.
The easiest way to check is to go into an auto parts store online ordering and enter the specific details for your Jeep and it should provide you the correct size options for your vehicle.
Here is an example of a site: www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/belts-hoses/belts/belt---serpentine-type/c92a524fe09d/v/a/2322/automotive-suv-1998-jeep-wrangler?fitAttr_10078_ss=No

Let's see if I can help - what is the year, make, model, engine size, does it have air conditioning?

i have a problem, i tightened the belt up but now its idling at 500 and slips sometimes in 3rd and 4th

It is hard to diagnose or help without knowing more information and there are a few possibilities. If you want to message me on Instagram or Facebook it may be easier to exchange messages. I can give you a list of things it could be but it may be things you have already checked. Since I don't know your level of knowledge forgive me if I am sharing info you already know but these questions are just to help you see if there are any issues you may be able to identify and narrow down the problem. They will be something a mechanic may ask you or check.
Were you doing any other work at the same time you tightened the belt? For example - on the TJ's, if you disconnect the battery the idle will run low and need to run drive the Jeep so the computer can learn the correct idle speed again. Was the belt too old to tighten and needs to be replaced? Did you tighten the idler pulley back (the one on the adjustment bolt) and it's variation is causing the belt to fall off? Did you over tighten the belt? Could the belt have been reversed (teeth side out)? Why did you tighten the belt to begin with (question is to try to understand other issues which may have been occurring). Tightening a belt to the correct spec should ensure it is operating at basic condition, so something else could be occurring. If you are having problems I would get a mechanic to take a look at it so it doesn't cause additional problems.
