- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- Rory & Mal sit down with Hip Hop & Young Guru to celebrate and reflect on the 18th birthday of the Black Album recently passing. The guys run through it song by song, discussing the stories and inspiration behind the iconic album.
Man…y’all got them to break down each song with stuff that’s never been heard before. This is amazing, especially for the “music nerds.” Thank you. Lighting got Rory looking extra pasty tho
Looking like Zane Lowe 😆😆😆😆
He shining like the pyramids you not lying
Lookin albino out there
I was coming to write exactly this
Awesome!
I won’t stop being proud of Rory and Mal man 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
💯
Súper happy for these guys 🍾🥂
Word....
I’m waiting for Rory to say “Unleash the flutes on em Guru” 😂😂 Young Rors
Lmao
ayo wtf *rory voice*
Thats a diff album but yea he should've asked about the flutes lol
Now I'm 100% sure these dudes were getting held back
1000000 percent it feels good to hear people talk without Joe interrupting with a dumbass joke or saying “we don’t care about that let’s move on”
Word.
And Joe had the nerve to say they don’t bring shit to the table….
@@dankdatank4019 They bring substance, Joe brought shit.
I was thinking the same thing
We still need a Biggs episode though too!
And one with just Dame
@@bl2528 Man! They GOTTA have Dame on the show!
facts
@@bl2528 i dont see that happening
The biggest advantage these two have is that they have some great family ties. Praying for them to do well in this endevour. They deserve it!!
🎯
Same thing I’ve said! It’s only going up.!
Who is Rory related too?
@@SuperMuu no one but he worked for Sony for years. So he too has industry connections.
@@SuperMuu his company is owned by Jay
Guru and Hip Hop long form interview is a moment in history. Rory & Mal just stepped up to the top tier. Movers and shakers in the room 🤯
Facts
These are legendary stories, from two of the most proflic people within hip-hop, coming from one of the best hip-hop albums to be graced from Jay-Z. Sheesh, Rory & Mal coming heavy.
🤲🔥🔥🔥
I like how Rory and Mal just let them go and talk about the memories.
Something that probably wouldn’t have happened on one JBP. Would’ve turned into jokes 😂
unlike somebody else
do we need to praise the hosts for being quiet so the guest can talk? thats crazy, the world we live in
@@hesaidchest crazy that that’s the exception and not the normal
@@ChannelTwentyTwo It's all good. There's a major contrast between the two and it's a perfect balance that way. It would be very weird if they mirrored each other. Let's just enjoy that we at least have culture being represented by those that have been in it and around it, rather than "hip-hop enthusiasts" doing these kind of podcasts.
Mal really apart of one of the greatest family in hip hop 😭 salute to y’all this was dope PLEASE more music shit we can nerd out about
I wish this was longer honestly. Not even talk about the Black Album specifically, just music in general.
Yall lighting is insane Rory looks like the Star of Bethlehem and got Guru looking like fries under a Mcdonalds heat lamp 😂😂
Lolol underrated comment; this is facts
oddlyspecific
Relaxxxx 😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Yooooo lmao I thought it was just me. He looks too bright.
Saying he glowing like the Star of Bethlehem is crazy, though. Omg 🤣😂
Fam … this interview is elite. I love how y’all jus let them talk .. & let them get they full thought out. This classic background sessions wit Jay. Amazing
Fun Fact: Lupe gave Jay the "What More Can I Say" beat which made Jay work with the Buchanans more.
I can hear Lupe on that…also they NEVER talk about that relationship
@@KatoOnTheTrack1 Yea there are many great stories about Jay and Lupe...Lupe was talking with Guru once how he was rapping in front of Jay for the first time, the CD started skipping so he started rapping to the skips, which made Jay go: " this dude different". Here is the story for anybody interested: ua-cam.com/video/86DW0NZHWoE/v-deo.html
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thanks!! So it was Chuck because he intro Lupe to Jay.
Lupe gave up some heat back in the day. BOB wouldn’t have a career if Lupe didn’t pass on Nothing On You.
This was the Episode I needed. The black Album is the most important album to my life. I fell in love with RAP at the age of 12 on this album and my mom took me took me to the Fade to Black Concert. Appreciate it my guys!!!
🔥
A very casual conversation, doesn’t feel like a interview. Crazy! Well done to Rory and Mal. Genuinely happy for them.
Rory and Mal can’t be touched!!! They bring something we don’t have & that will forever be cherished!! Y’all deserve your flowers and I’m so proud of y’all!!
This is actually great. We ain't forget a out them skits tho! We still waiting...
good shit R&M, we need more of this stuff. Ik it feels like there isn't a huge market for "music nerd" talk and this felt perfect blend of that and your typical style of general podding. This is ur 2nd best one after that Alc interview. more of this please!
i think they learned that going for the big audience comes at a cost. rather do this than talk about who tryin to date saweetie this week lol
This was inevitable. Glad it happen sooner. Young Guru is a master engineer. He is at elite levels. He rarely gives interviews which is why this is a major look for Rory and Mal. Obviously connections matter. But this is big, big...facts or super facts?
Lgo
Yea amazing
HIP HOP is MAL’s Brother as is BIGGS. And Rory n Mal r with Roc Nation.
Dear Lord... please let this put Phonte into the long overdue well deserved mainstream light, the world needs to know who Phontigallo is
Nah, for real tho, Phonitgallo for Dolo is has some of the best bars ever
Phonte will never get his just due. He's very much one of the greats.
A true alien mc
Who……?
Rory and Mal is way up! Their Pod is on 10 right now
This is SPECIAL, and I agree with whoever said yall need a Biggs episode too
I never heard Biggs speak once, bring the man on the show
@@Mj_Billz he was on drink chance bro is that Miles brother for real I thought it was Biggs i’m asking because I am blind
@@DjOuttasite1210 yea Mals brother is Biggs
@@Trax777 I know bro thanks but is this guy his brother to or they were just saying that like close Homies
@@DjOuttasite1210 nah they were just saying that, this wasn't his brother fr
Past few episodes been fire. That Psychiatrist episode was amazing and I hope gets more views. Too underrated.
It really seems like I have to laugh every time you guys drop something, because I keep hearing "someone's" voice saying that yall didn't have any content ideas?!!!!! Congrats and continue to move forward gentlemen 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The set. The lay out. The decor. The elevation. 🙏🏾👑
Love the set up but y’all gotta dim Rory’s light. Got my mans looking like a supernova
Haha ya he and Mal shoulda switched spots. Little bit more shadow on the outside there!
lmaoooo Rory's lit up like he about to ascend to the heavens
@@TheKondinho on everything lol
They call him Sun because he shine like one
@@bxnative247 you gon see shining lights once he sets it on son
I'll be honest... The Black Album was the perfect album for HOV to ride off into the sunset... Certified classic that you can play straight through
This set is dope. They getting serious asf!
2 coffees light and sweet....added extra nyc spice to the story. Only we understand that 😃
Rory and Mal working!! Work ethic, work ethic, work ethics... 💪💰
This is a gem for every true fan of Hov. Rory is in his element as a hip hop head and Mal is stepping up into legacy and his calling. Kudos.
This interview made my life bro. Jay Z and the black album were a huge part of my childhood and something my dad and I always bonded over. Forever appreciative of these guys. Shoutout Rory and Mal too. The next 🐐🐐 podcast
Nah, Joe was really holding them back, look at this amazing content? No ways 🤣
Joe didn’t hold them back. He asked them to spin up separate pods. They didn’t want to do it. They were well-paid and complacent. If we can’t tell the difference between being held back and holding ourselves back, we’ll never reach our true potential… and it will always be someone else’s fault.
@@kismechedwick7829 he really didn’t he would say that but in his rant he said rory gave him suggestions and he said rory don’t tell what the fuck to do on my podcast….
@@hiitsme3039 As Joe should have… 🤷🏾♂️ The whole point was, Joe is the captain of his ship and he wanted Rory and Mal to create their own ship. That’s completely reasonable. And look at them now! Mal been had these connections. He and Rory could have been doing this for years. But sometimes we gotta be pushed out the nest to find our wings.
@@kismechedwick7829 mal got the pusha t & the dame interview for joe. Hell mal question started the shaq & dame beef so they didn’t need pushing all he had to do incorporate their ideas. But he wanted employees instead of partners which is what he has now. So he got what he wanted 🤷🏾♂️
He use to tell them for years to do more and start they own podcast, I believe they didn’t wanna do it until they seen the success and money joe was making! They tried to make about him hiding Money when in all honesty they wanted to leave! You never heard Mal talk this much in 4year of podcast! Now he just got everything to say
"Every Wednesday pod cast with Mr.Mally Mal is crazy."
Glad to see y'all can bring family through and leverage those connection that you have.
This was soooo good!!! I almost jumped out my skin when they mixed up Change Clothes and Excuse me Miss 😂😂😂
This episode really taught me about what an A&R does. I had an idea but this made it PRETTY clear. Listen to everything Hop is saying.
This is why I will always fuck with Rory. He was the Gel on Budden podcast and he is what joe is missing. Joey & Rory could go back and forth about music all day. That what made the three of them interesting. Mal is good with what he do. But when it comes to music you listen to Rory.... period! Congrats Guys!
Great to see Mal and his big bro conversating in front of the camera together 🔥 Keep this fire content coming fellas 🙏🏿
Okay with the studio backdrop 🔥
Dope convo ✊🏾 I shot Fade to Black. I wish I was in this convo because there were some cool details that were missed from my POV
Prove it
Insightful episode we need more of these . Good work Rory & mal
S/O big dawg. Love from Zimbabwe
11:54 I believe the "nameless" engineer is Chauncey. Just Blaze went on a classic twitter rant years ago where he ran down a bunch of bad audio within Jay Z's catalog and the tagline was "bc Chauncey".
I’m only half way through this and I am loving this. Very dope🙌🏾
I need this as a series.. A Producer/A&R/artist walk us through classic albums. I'm here for that
joe want me to get patreon to watch the same podcast when rory n mal got this going
This interview is gold! Jay been the GOAT.
They should do this with a few other classic albums, to the people who part of the process
This could definitely become a recurring segment
This might be the best episode you guys have dropped so far.
Looking forward to the day we can all gather in the comments and just appreciate Rory & Mal without bringing up that other pod. So proud of these brothers, man. More glory. 🍊💰
The Black Album - one of the most underrated hip hop Albums ever. This was a Brilliant interview. R & M are doing Great Work!
Is it really underrated tho... I feel like hip-hop heads know the masterpiece the album is
I don't think it is underrated at all. It isnt overrated at all either. People always put that album in their top 3 for Jay.
Never been underrated. It's an actual classic.
Never heard it being underrated
These are the conversations we love. Keep em coming. BTW my order for Jay albums
1. Black Album
2. Blueprint
3. Reasonable Doubt
4. American Gangster
5. 4:44
6. Vol 2
... yall can carry on.
Yo I love a podcast where ppl aren’t arguing to speak.. 😮💨😍
This is facts 💯
This is when you can hold a gem 5 years and the shine really hits 💎
The set looks fye ngl
Content kings. See what happens when a narcissist isn’t holding you back?
See what happens when rory an especially actually start podding instead of sponging off joe like they was...

“With a PC” 😂 honestly this interview was everything. It’s always great hearing from the artist but hearing from “the artist around the artist” is just as inspiring and insightful. 👏🏽👏🏽
This episode is # 1 on Apple Podcasts under the Music category. Congrats guys!
Y’all are great. I love everyone’s deep appreciation for hip hop
This should’ve been an 3 hour sit down. Love this type of talk. Amazing job fellas
This episode was amazing. Now I have to go listen to the black album top to bottom with all this new knowledge.
Same 💯
All Jay-Z music is in UA-cam for free now. Any song search it up.
This was fire. Black album a classic. And crazy that PSA was a late addition track!
Thank y'all for this & the Al interviews; The Boyz are giving us that real Hip-Hop! Salute to how y'all moving 🍊 💰
This was so legendary. The respect these MEN have for each other is admirable. These stories are priceless!
I love these types of interviews. Back stories from the people behind the shit the culture loves. Keep it up guys!
Rory: Tell us about "Moment of Clarity"
Guru: ... so anyway "Lucifer" is a dope record
This is exactly how that sounded 🤣
Moment of Clarity was my shit too. Someone tweet Em and ask him to tell us how it went down.
2nd verse on Moment of Clarity one of the dopest things Jay ever spit. He broke the game down told us what he was doing/going to do then went out and did it. The more he grows the better it ages
Edit. Just hit this point in the pod. Can't really expect em to go in depth on something they weren't there for lmao 😂. Would be cool to hear Jay and Em discuss it one day.
Guru talking about mixing the album, would’ve never expected this from Rory and Mal. Very dope 🙏🏼
Ayyyyyye!!! I’m locked in for this one!👑👑🙌🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Shout out to Rory & Mal for all they are doing.
They had mad ideas and glad to see THEM use them and benefit from it as well.
This was dope
I haven't watched this pod since the first couple of episodes. Totally quit watching the JBP, but I'm hoping these two keep being successful and the pod improves. I'm gonna give this episode a shot.
Dya like it?
@@kevthepoet Man I was planning on starting it, but I ended up listening to something else. I'm not sure what it is, but I just lost interest.
This one of the best album “behind -the -scenes” I’ve listened to
More album breakdowns
The whole production looks A1 👌
LOVE LOVE ALLURE❤👏🏾 IT'S MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY THE BLACK ALBUM🥳❤🥂💐🙌🏾
Moment of clarity one of my favorite joints on Black Album…. Sounds like the room could unanimously give af bout it 🤷🏾♂️ that’s crazy
Jay made it work, but it's very much a traditional "Eminem" record. And for everyone that knows, that can encompass a lot, as far as "sound" is concerned. And that's not always a good thing. Em isn't the producer that some believe him to be.
@@WaterGates1 Em is no super producer but he’s pretty good and better than a lot. Especially for an artist who started making beats after being multi platinum. I’m a lyrics guy 1st, so it’s about what’s done wit tha beat…. Moment of clarity was a good beat, great song; as was Renegade, also produce by em and The Cross with NAS
Quik is a living legend and battle Cat both are staples that I feel don’t get the proper credit they deserve.
Battlecat is the definition of UNDERRATED

Gosh. I am so happy for this episode. Been waiting for Mal to tap into the ROC
This probably my favorite Pod yall have done so far! Keep THIS energy going fam!
The studio looks fresh!!!
Looks like a daytime talk show setup. Real nice and clean.
This is how you conduct an interview..Rory & Mal know how to allow the guest to speak without interrupting them every couple of minutes..Good stuff fellas!
I miss these times in rap/hip-hop. Favorite episode thus far
The part about DJ quik makes me listen back and appreciate the skill and sounds. I listen for all the little quirky in between stuff just now and it's so cool.
Good job fellas...solid work 👊🏽💪🏾
For actually being up at baseline in these days I greatly appreciated this content. Well done
Definitely should do this with more classic albums!! These are stories that need to be told
Damn Joe Budden will never be invited to a rocnation brunch after this one
