- Warsaw Pact was the Eastern Bloc’s military alliance during the Cold war, which was created in May 1955 because of West Germany joining NATO.
Its members were Albania (until 1968), Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Soviet Union.

No matter how you feel about communism and USSR back then, but what was really precious is that idea of uniting everyone as brothers and sisters for a common good. Polish, Bulgarian, Czech, Russian, Kazakh, Estonian, all - we all should be friends and brothers to each other, and never enemies.
It was an idea, a dream to follow. It didn't succeed, but there is something poetic about it even...people tried to believe and quite of them did believed in that friendship.
Now it's impossible to imagine:(

I see plenty of people here in the comments section who can't understand the context of the lyrics of this anthem. Just read the description. The Warsaw Pact was formed in 1955, not because the Soviets were "evil". After the Second World War, Germany was split into four sectors; West Germany went to Britain, France and the United States and East Germany went to the Soviet Union. The same happened to Berlin, although it was really the Red Army who had liberated the entire city in 1945.
After World War Two, these four powers agreed to de-Nazify Germany, make the country democratic and to also rebuild the country. The West, however, had made completely unilateral decisions by introducing the Deautsch Mark in 1949 and creating the Federal Republic of Germany, even though they had made an agreement with the USSR to create a united Germany. Approximately five months later in 1949, the German Democratic Republic was formed in East Germany.
Between the years of 1949 and 1961, West Berlin became a key spy base for the West and this was one of the things that made the USSR start putting up its defences. As well as this, well into the 1960s, the Nazis were still in power in the West German government. This included former members of the Nazi Party, including the SA, who played a huge part in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1930s and also carried out the Kristalnacht atrocity in 1938. This is why the Berlin wall was referred to as the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart".
As for the Warsaw Pact, the West had formed NATO in 1949 for the very purpose of deliberately threatening the Socialist Eastern Bloc. It was when West Germany had joined NATO in 1954 that the Warsaw Pact was formed a year later. The Warsaw Pact was a Mutual Defence Treaty to unify all the Eastern Bloc countries to defend themselves against US imperialism, as there were sabotage operations happening in Germany, even after World War Two.

Successful attacks were carried out, but the people and soldiers were exhausted, which led them to peace.
