3rd Wave is an engineering masterpiece. I find it extremely useful and unique in my compositions that I'm working on right now. The interface is clean and easy to use! A joy to program!
As a longtime PPG wave 2.2/2.3 owner (still got a 2.3) and a 3rd Wave owner and owner of many other wavetable synths, I confess, the 3rd Wave is the closest hardware synth in sounding like a real PPG wave 2.2/2.3. And it got so many extras and even more hifi wavetables I wished to have on my PPG waves 36 years earlier. Filmed at their Superbooth 24 stand in the evening after one of these Superbooth days.
Thanks for the great overview Bob! Great to see the continued success of the 3rd Wave and Groove Synthesis, and hats off to you, Andrew, Mark and the team for creating this monster synth! I really enjoyed the interview we did when I was in CA. Thanks again!
I have had my 3rd Wave Keyboard for a couple of months and it’s the most complete and comprehensive synth I have ever used. I absolutely love it. It does so much and easy to use too. The Groove Synthesis team are amazing people. Very helpful and also make you feel valued and supported. Great experience.
3rd Wave is an amazing synth. You will not find a better synth out there. In addition Bob and Andrew are so passionate about their products and so creative that I can’t wait to see what is next!!!
I got mine about a week ago and I absolutely love it! I work very differently on it than I do in other synthesizers and get very interesting results. One of my favorite things about it is that you can use the oscillators as modulation sources in the mod matrix. Very few synthesizers let you do this (prophet 12) and it's an incredible tool. A few things that I'll write down here that would be great to have in a firmware update: - Slew option for LFOs (this would be particularly useful for the random wave lfo) - Bipolar and Unipolar option for LFOs - Time based visual representation and control over envelope stage values (or syncable envelope stages like in the hydrasynth) as well as for some of the effect parameters like delay, etc. - A visual representation of position in the envelopes - would be especially useful in the wave envelopes. like a dot or line that follows in real time. - A release option for the wave envelopes that picks up wherever you are at in the wavetable when you release the key, rather than jumping to a predetermined envelope position to begin the release. Anyway, LOVE the synth - it sounds so good and it always makes me happy. Cheers!
I love mine and support is amazing, Andrew has fixed my issues very next day which I have never experienced ever with any other synth manufacturer. One question, will you ever implement an MPE ability to record? It would be amazing if you did, that way I could hold off buying a more expensive sequencer and purchase the Osmose. Again I cannot thank you and your team enough, this is such a joy to use, it is one of the most complex but easy to use synths I have ever used in my life. It's so rewarding to use and I have barely scratched the surface!!!
Truly amazing synth, I was an early adopter and the honeymoon has continued 2+ years on. Aside from its amazing PPG sounds, the VA portion is so good I have not felt the need to get anything else (Prophet, OB-X8, Nina, etc.). And the Groove people keep adding so many new capabilities that I can barely keep up...!
Great video Bob! I just purchased a 3rd Wave Synth. The 3rd Wave is a very deep synth and it sounds fantastic. The Groove Gang put in a lot of thought into the 3rd Wave right down to the spiral-bound User's Manual that lays flat while reading. The 3rd Wave could use a Patch Librarian app. It would be nice to sort through patches, for example, by attributes.
I have a 3rd Wave desktop, played via an Osmose, and the MPE capability works so expressively between them. I was shocked and completely thrown by how rich + beautiful a PPG-style wavetable synth could sound. I was never a fan back in the day, and many of those sounds were cliché in my mind... 3rd Wave fundamentally upended my view in the best possible way.
I played the 3rd Wave of a friend of mine for two hours. It is a great synthesizer but due to the high price in Europe I opted for the competition and bought a new Waldorf Iridium, a used Waldorf M and a used Sequential Pro 3 SE instead. Maybe I'll buy it anyway next year, because it has got many interesting new features, it's reliable and it's easy to use. My wishlist includes (1) a Sequential style "show" function that allows you to read parameter values without turning a knob, (2) Ensoniq SQ-80 style sequence editing with the ability to switch programs between sequences, (3) and a Prophet VS mode that lets you crossfade between the four parts or whatever it takes to mimic the VS. Its waves are already in there.
Sequential‘s “Show“ functions requires turning a knob as well; how else would it know which parameter to show? I strongly second your wish of a VS mode.
I fee privileged to own this instrument, and have spent thousands of hours creating custom synth sounds since the mid-1980s, but OMG... "head esplode."
Best customer service, it's practically a prophet filtered-oberheim sem filtered (more valuable than Curtis)-moog one level-80s PPG inspired and replicated-do it all dream synth, can be updated to add any or most features from the oberheim or moog flagship synths, only synth I can think of with more voices is a summit, only thing this can't do is a ladder filter sound like an artuira or moog. If they made a model d style ladder filter with overload/saturation, at 24x voices as a sound module done in a way how oberheim chains it's units together via midi/usb mode to add more voices, there would be no reason to buy anything else and would theoretically cover all ground except fx where pedals are still more flexible. If so it could probably be added in via an update, it's also got the biggest screen with the most space to add features like a set list function or whatever else other modern synths have. Only reason to buy a moog or artuira is the ladder filters, moog is still the preferred bass sound for many people. But to my knowledge groove synthesis is the only company rocking prophet filters outside of sequential too, there's so much to appreciate as their first product.
One of the best synth in my opinion. High quality and infinite possibilities. I would like to have it.....the price is too much for me and only few people che afford one. Bob could you revie price policy ?
Whoa, I didn’t know there was a piano patch in the 3W. Did I overlook that in the factory patches? Can someone tell me where I can find it in the synth? Thanks!
I've owned a 2.3 and Waveterm back in the 90's. To me, the big question now is what Behringer will do with their recreation? I'm waiting to decide. Because let's be honest. Why Spending 5K when you can (possibly) have a 100% similar result with a 1K synth ???
The 2.3 is just the start of what the 3rd Wave does, and the 3rd Wave of course had to be able to do this, but the 3rd Wave goes well beyond what a 2.3 is capable of. The sound, the 24 voices and number of parts, the synthesis methods, the wave envelopes, the modulation matrix, the effects, and the knob per function user interface.
@@maxmeier532 the colour of the synth is horrible and don't inspire good things, but the sound of the synth is very good. i think you can understand, english or martian

What a great look at this beautiful instrument. Bob, the joy on your face says it all.

I love my 3rd wave. Best hybrid poly synth out there. Plus, Groove Synthesis customer service is the best in the industry.

Thanks Allie, and you are one heck of a synthesizer tech! I believe you could fix anything.

Hey Bob! I love mine as well! All over the new record ;)
Excellent! Can't wait to hear what you are doing with it. Hopefully you are getting some sample usage in too. 😄
The only thing better than a 3rd Wave is the company Groove Synthesis. Nobody beats their service and professionalism.
Best modern synth, great company and class people. A company worth supporting.
Amazing walkthru Bob, thanks!

Can't say enough good things about this synth.
A shimmer reverb would be nice.

Just download the latest OS and get the 5 example sample patches. The "Hard Piano" is a sample of a Yamaha grand.
I didn’t read anything anywhere about the actual hardware. Is it all fpga or fpga plus analog filter chips or completely discrete analog?
