I am a new Catholic, relatively so. I was born and raised in a very strict evangelical/ fundamentalist Protestant family. God, in His mercy, has brought me to the Church. I love the Catholic faith so much! I am trying to learn about Purgatory and praying for souls, particularly since both my mum and my wife passed away in 2014. Until finding this video, all I thought about was my mum and wife. How sad that there are "forgotten" souls in Purgatory in need of our help. It could very well be me someday. I'm happy to know I can make some small difference in the Kingdom of Heaven. Viva Christo rey!
God bless ya jack
Ur wife and mother cannot be a forgotten soul if u offer mass and Rosary for them. So they can go to heaven.
The souls would love it if all of us offered Masses for them as often as we can. There are priests in India and I'd say all over the world that can help you with that. If you need help with finding a priest or priests that offer them, I can name a good mission in India that offers Masses for your intentions. ;)
Praise be to God. Welcome home Jack. I have a special devotion to the holy souls, which was inculcated by a priest in my youth. There’s a holy souls apostolate in my parish, here in Orlando. Father does a requiem mass on the second Fridays of the month followed by adoration for one hour, when we have vocal prayers all in reparation and the release of the Holy Souls. I recommend two books we use.
Daily Pilgrimage to purgatory and holy souls book by father lassance. These are the two things we do as a group in addition we have a “pool” of donations we use exclusively for Gregorian masses for those who die at our parish. It’s opened to all ages, my children participate and have become more aware of the holy souls. Actually, it is all the children in the group who lead the holy rosary for the souls. We use the meditations in Father lassance book. May God and Our Lady continue to guide you.
I have had a few Holy Souls visiting me, one to say thank you for the Gregorian Masses just before she went back to Heaven (this was my dearest mother). I had one soul asking for 10 more Masses, after 30 had been said for him (me dearest Dad who accepted Jesus just before he died). I have had another Holu Soul standing on the front lawn, silent standing in what looked like rain, ai knew this person, andnI knew he needed Holy Masses. There isn't anything more powerful on this earth than THE HOLY MASS. The Holy Souls definitely benefit, it's all they want. Try and have 30 Holy Masses said for your wife and mother. God bless you.
Not just in November....Pray every day for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. I know that those whom I prayed for have been released.....Thank you, My God!
How do you know?
By dreams. I experienced it too.@@lmlmlmlm7627
People need to pray for the poor souls in Purgatory that are forgotten. The souls that are not being prayed for. The souls that are deep in Purgatory who are tormented by the demonic. There are different levels of Purgatory and there is a level very close to Hell. These souls are still Holy, but they suffer the most. These souls also need our prayers. I pray for all the Holy souls, especially the soul who is the closest to Heaven, but also the souls who are forgotten. Who have no family or friends. The souls who are forgotten.
You seem to have a broken concept of purgatory. Nobody is experiencing anything even remotely close to demonic during the process.
Please pray for these souls as they can be a great help to us down here on Earth
We pray the Holy Rosary everyday for the Souls in Purgatory. We hope you will also.
My name is Lloyd. I pray for the Holy Souls too. I humbly beg you to attach my intentions of good health for me and my family with your Rosary prayers. I will be very grateful to you and I am praying for you now. Thank you, GOD bless 😃
Christ calls us, demands of us works of mercy. Praying for the holy souls in purgatory is a work of mercy, and very pleasing to Him.
They have helped me so many times once I asked them to help my husband get the job he got it the same day. I promised them mass. I love them very much they are my dear friends and my saints in heaven ❤they always help me ❤
Well who needs the Holy Spirit when you can bypass Him and go to dead mortals in a fabricated lie called purgatory.
So true. Don't underestimate the generosity and power of the Poor Souls.
Please try to read your Bible. Because Jesus spoke about Hell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Heaven 🙏
I do read it. I've read it my whole life. Thanks for that admonition. You are correct to point to the Scriptures and yes, they do speak of Hell and Heaven. The thing to guard against would be to assume that if a thing is not directly stated in the Scriptures that such a thing simply can not be. The belief in Purgatory goes back to the earliest times and prayers for the dead was a thing even before the Church was founded. People were already believing such things before the New Testament was written. In this case the burden of proof would not be on those who believe in Purgatory, but on those who believe that everything Christians believe must be found spelled out directly in the Scriptures. There is not even a scriptural test for that.
@Muma Wilson it's in the scriptures
@@linda-nx9qeAhh yes the answer with no basis in scripture and believed to be in scripture because some one said so!
Purgatory is a denial of what Christ has done for us on the cross. Coll 2"9-15 He even nailed the punishment for our sins to the cross. 1 John 1:9 we confess our sins to God and look at what He does . Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
So God gave us new life and a new birth and obviously that is spiritual as our flesh does not inherit the kingdom of God.
Take every verse that is given to you to prove purgatory and look up the context to see for yourself if the verses given mean what they say.
@Bruce W McLaughlin where do you think all the people of the old T went before Christs saving deed. Also Samuel, Also they will be saved through fire. You have much explaining to do
I am praying the rosary (St Gertrude for the souls in purgatory every night)
I prayed for the souls in purgatory. Its a 9 day novena. I prayed it every night and at the 7th night am getting goosebumps. I continue on the 8th and experience goosebumps again (its either wanting me to stopped it already or what). I want to complete it inspite of goosebumps. I prayed harder on the 9th day and ask God to give me courage. After I finish felt that souls is thanking me.
The goosebumps could be demons. My wife and I paid for a whole bunch of masses to be said and while we were emailing the priest, a picture of Jesus hanging up was thrown across the room with some force in our direction.
@@hynjus001 As Jesus was taken down from the cross after He died there is absolutely no reason to put an image of Jesus up on a cross again.
You paid for masses and yet there is no reason to do that, as Christ died once and for all and all your sins are forgiven if you are a believer. Purgatory is a slap in the face of Jesus as you are proclaiming Him inadequate and a liar as He said it is finished. His life atones for all of our sins and if you read Cpll 2:9-15 you see that He even nailed the punishment for our sins to the cross.
read God's word the scriptures for tour truth and not superstitious fantasies of others,
What a wonderful grace I pray for them too, no signs but it matters jot I'll keep on trucking
@@linda-nx9qe So just where do you find in the bible that you are to pray for souls in purgatory?
@Bruce W McLaughlin I'm not going to pointlessly argue with you, it is in the Bible which BTW came from the catholics and you wouldn't even have because your 40k denominations only started 500 years ago by your king pope Henry the 8th. You pro test ants all unute on one thing...your hatred for the original church all your other self interpretation differences are all ok, but u unite in your hatred against the original church which your faith's have ZERO connection with. Pardon me but laughable.
Writings of Italian mystic Maria Valtorta, Jesus said to his Apostles: There is no greater act of mercy one can do while living on earth than to pray for the Souls in Purgatory, especially those who have no one to pray for them... Jesus said that alone, that alone.....
We should ask for more masses to be said for the souls of purgatory.
I often hear masses said for one or two people, but rarely for the souls of purgatory.
Thankfully, many are said in London churches. So necessary.
@SensusFidelium I pray daily for the Holy Souls in purgatory this is a great 👍 reminder thank you it brought tears to my eyes this story of the girl and her last franc
The Saint Gertrude prayer is a very powerful for the Holy souls in Purgatory..Jesus gave the prayer to Saint Gertrude and told her that a 1000 souls will be released every time the prayer is prayed. I try praying the prayer whenever I can. A person praying a Holy rosary for the Holy souls in Purgatory is powerful also.
I will try and pray for the souls in purgatory more regularly

@@walterromanoff2953 The Catholic Church is a Bible-based church. The entire Mass, as well as the Rosary, are based on passages straight from the Bible. The Bible states, "It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins" - 2 Mach. 12, 46. And don't tell me that that can't be trusted because it's from the Catholic bible, because we had the Bible first and then the Protestants came along and wrecked it.

Scripture
I. A State After Death of Suffering and Forgiveness
Matt. 5:26,18:34; Luke 12:58-59 - Jesus teaches us, “Come to terms with your opponent or you will be handed over to the judge and thrown into prison. You will not get out until you have paid the last penny.” The word “opponent” (antidiko) is likely a reference to the devil (see the same word for devil in 1 Pet. 5:8) who is an accuser against man (c.f. Job 1.6-12; Zech. 3.1; Rev. 12.10), and God is the judge. If we have not adequately dealt with satan and sin in this life, we will be held in a temporary state called a prison, and we won’t get out until we have satisfied our entire debt to God. This “prison” is purgatory where we will not get out until the last penny is paid.
Matt. 5:48 - Jesus says, “be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.” We are only made perfect through purification, and in Catholic teaching, this purification, if not completed on earth, is continued in a transitional state we call purgatory.
Matt. 12:32 - Jesus says, “And anyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but no one who speaks against the Holy Spirit will be forgiven either in this world or in the next.” Jesus thus clearly provides that there is forgiveness after death. The phrase “in the next” (from the Greek “en to mellonti”) generally refers to the afterlife (see, for example, Mark 10.30; Luke 18.30; 20.34-35; Eph. 1.21 for similar language). Forgiveness is not necessary in heaven, and there is no forgiveness in hell. This proves that there is another state after death, and the Church for 2,000 years has called this state purgatory.
Luke 12:47-48 - when the Master comes (at the end of time), some will receive light or heavy beatings but will live. This state is not heaven or hell, because in heaven there are no beatings, and in hell we will no longer live with the Master.
Luke 16:19-31 - in this story, we see that the dead rich man is suffering but still feels compassion for his brothers and wants to warn them of his place of suffering. But there is no suffering in heaven or compassion in hell because compassion is a grace from God and those in hell are deprived from God’s graces for all eternity. So where is the rich man? He is in purgatory.
1 Cor. 15:29-30 - Paul mentions people being baptized on behalf of the dead, in the context of atoning for their sins (people are baptized on the dead’s behalf so the dead can be raised). These people cannot be in heaven because they are still with sin, but they also cannot be in hell because their sins can no longer be atoned for. They are in purgatory. These verses directly correspond to 2 Macc. 12:44-45 which also shows specific prayers for the dead, so that they may be forgiven of their sin.
Phil. 2:10 - every knee bends to Jesus, in heaven, on earth, and “under the earth” which is the realm of the righteous dead, or purgatory.
2 Tim. 1:16-18 - Onesiphorus is dead but Paul asks for mercy on him “on that day.” Paul’s use of “that day” demonstrates its eschatological usage (see, for example, Rom. 2.5,16; 1 Cor. 1.8; 3.13; 5.5; 2 Cor. 1.14; Phil. 1.6,10; 2.16; 1 Thess. 5.2,4,5,8; 2 Thess. 2.2,3; 2 Tim. 4.8). Of course, there is no need for mercy in heaven, and there is no mercy given in hell. Where is Onesiphorus? He is in purgatory.
Heb. 12:14 - without holiness no one will see the Lord. We need final sanctification to attain true holiness before God, and this process occurs during our lives and, if not completed during our lives, in the transitional state of purgatory.
Heb. 12:23 - the spirits of just men who died in godliness are “made” perfect. They do not necessarily arrive perfect. They are made perfect after their death. But those in heaven are already perfect, and those in hell can no longer be made perfect. These spirits are in purgatory.
1 Peter 3:19; 4:6 - Jesus preached to the spirits in the “prison.” These are the righteous souls being purified for the beatific vision.
Rev. 21:4 - God shall wipe away their tears, and there will be no mourning or pain, but only after the coming of the new heaven and the passing away of the current heaven and earth. Note the elimination of tears and pain only occurs at the end of time. But there is no morning or pain in heaven, and God will not wipe away their tears in hell. These are the souls experiencing purgatory.
Rev. 21:27 - nothing unclean shall enter heaven. The word “unclean” comes from the Greek word “koinon” which refers to a spiritual corruption. Even the propensity to sin is spiritually corrupt, or considered unclean, and must be purified before entering heaven. It is amazing how many Protestants do not want to believe in purgatory. Purgatory exists because of the mercy of God. If there were no purgatory, this would also likely mean no salvation for most people. God is merciful indeed.
Luke 23:43 - many Protestants argue that, because Jesus sent the good thief right to heaven, there can be no purgatory. There are several rebuttals. First, when Jesus uses the word “paradise,” He did not mean heaven. Paradise, from the Hebrew “sheol,” meant the realm of the righteous dead. This was the place of the dead who were destined for heaven, but who were captive until the Lord’s resurrection. Second, since there was no punctuation in the original manuscript, Jesus’ statement “I say to you today you will be with me in paradise” does not mean there was a comma after the first word “you.” This means Jesus could have said, “I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise” (meaning, Jesus could have emphasized with exclamation his statement was “today” or “now,” and that some time in the future the good thief would go to heaven). Third, even if the thief went straight to heaven, this does not prove there is no purgatory (those who are fully sanctified in this life - perhaps by a bloody and repentant death - could be ready for admission in to heaven).
Gen. 50:10; Num. 20:29; Deut. 34:8 - here are some examples of ritual prayer and penitent mourning for the dead for specific periods of time. The Jewish understanding of these practices was that the prayers freed the souls from their painful state of purification, and expedited their journey to God.
Baruch 3:4 - Baruch asks the Lord to hear the prayers of the dead of Israel. Prayers for the dead are unnecessary in heaven and unnecessary in hell. These dead are in purgatory.
Zech. 9:11 - God, through the blood of His covenant, will set those free from the waterless pit, a spiritual abode of suffering which the Church calls purgatory.
2 Macc. 12:43-45 - the prayers for the dead help free them from sin and help them to the reward of heaven. Those in heaven have no sin, and those in hell can no longer be freed from sin. They are in purgatory. Luther was particularly troubled with these verses because he rejected the age-old teaching of purgatory. As a result, he removed Maccabees from the canon of the Bible.
II. Purification After Death By Fire
Heb. 12:29 - God is a consuming fire (of love in heaven, of purgation in purgatory, or of suffering and damnation in hell)."

@BereanJenn 1.When we are alive , we can pray for the Holy Souls in purgatory, offer our sufferings for them, offer the Holy Masses for them and also attend Holy Masses for your self. During every Holy Mass , the priest does pray for holy Souls in purgatory...So while on earth since you prayed for the Holy Souls, they will revert back with prayers for your salvation with greater fervor than us.
Holy Masses, rosaries, way of the cross , Divine Mercy chaplet , consistently following the sacrament of reconciliation.
2. For every soul to reach heaven , varying degrees of purification might be required... People who go to hell..I think let a catholic priest of good standing in the eyes of God answer you that..

Say a rosary for the priest. Prayers help more than anything else
If those souls are so holy why are they in purgatory ? That does not make any sense and how do you know who gets released ?
They are holy because their next destination is heaven those sent to purgatory will enter the kingdom just not right away. The condemned go straight to hell. When you pray for the souls you don't know who you are praying for the Lord helps those whom are ready to be released. It could be 100 or a thousand

No one is asleep Christ already paid the price. It would be splendid if y'all could learn basic reading skills. AFTER our Lord died the ground shook and the saints came alive once more and were even seen preaching to people. That has already happened. Second of all there had to be a place for all holy folk who died before christ to go as they couldn't go to heaven nor could their souls stay in the grave (death is literally the separation of soul and body) the place is called Limbus where Christ then descended into. Im Catholic and i have a hard time with purgatory. Its hard to imagine that God sends one to a place of torture, especially after one has confessed and already done pentence. The bible says that our confessed sin is completely blotted out. Im struggling with this.
God doesn't send you there. it's the soul himself who WANTS to go there after God open up they consciousness and they see their sins as God see it. Souls judge themselves, not God and they choose voluntarily to go to the purgatory because it is the only way to enter into heaven 100% clean. Being clean is an ambitious that all souls want to reach and are willing to pay the price because they are fully aware how wonderful and magnificent is to be in heaven. There are no words to describe the mix of pain with joy the souls experience there. People think are the flames the most horrible experience and this is nothing compared with the sadness of not being God with them. That is the pain of the pains that we will experience in that place. The purgatory is God's mercy.
It's a place of purification. Someone told me to think of it as the area you wash your feet before entering the pool.
You can only understand the bible through the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church compiled the bible and is the only authority on the bible, you can't read it and draw your own conclusions about what it means, rather only the Church consistently teaches what it means accurately through sacred tradition.
It is as simple as this: Heaven is perfect. If we do not obtain perfection by the time we die but are yet still in a state of grace (saved), then we have no other logical way to get to heaven than to work out the remainder of our faults with fear and trembling. It is suffering that allows us to become better if we let it - even more so after death for the friends of God. How could a just God send someone to suffer? One could just as easily ask how could a just God allow an imperfect person into heaven?
The souls in Purgatory do not wish to appear uncleaned, neither would they wish to return to earth. They are certain of going to Heaven. The greatest happiness is theirs, however long it takes.
The precious blood of our blessed Lord was shed for us all. By His blood we are cleansed, forgiven and made new. By His blood we have access to His Father’s presence. The teaching about purgatory is totally false. Jesus died for you, and as you accept Him as your Lord and Saviour you will be saved from eternal hell and become a true child of God.
You understand neither the cross (which is no shame, as no mam truly understands that mystery) nor the teaching of purgatory.
The more you try to explain why it "cannot be true" the more you out yourself as not understanding either.
The word "Purgatory" is not in the Bible. Nor is anything described like it is. Only the Lord can forgive you for your Sins. Not Priests or dead mortals like Mary, The Saints or souls in your man made Catholic mass or other books you guys create. Nothing Trumps the Bible, So Stay true to the words of the Lord and don't deviate from it. It is also a Sin to add or take away from the Gospel. That is exactly what your church is doing.😊
Are we talking about the same Almighty God?
The God that said Let there be light, told Moses I AM, Created everything including the stars, planets, galaxies and creatures?
According to your thinking the angel appeared to Mary and Said to her "Hail full of SIN!"
The funniest part of being Protestant is that everything you have ever read in the Bible was formulated by the Roman Catholic Church. Even the leader of all Protestant Beliefs MARTIN LUTHER completely affirmed The Immaculate Conception is Mary the Queen of the Rosary.
You've been deceived by Satan himself who laughs every time a born again Christian soul enters the gates of Hell.
Amen

God does not make mistakes.
The 10 commandments are all sacrificial works.
Even Martin Luther agreed.
Where is your purgatory on Gods Holy Word ??...there is no such place u die and then a Holy judgement
Stopped teaching people about purgatory, There's two things Jesus Christ speak about Hell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Heaven 🙏
No there's also Abraham's bosom or purgatory. The concept is in the Bible. Please do research such as reading the council of Trent and you can watch taylor marshall here on UA-cam plus read church fathers and doctors. Also dear purgatory or limbus IS IN hell. With all the ignorance of these heretics you probably don't know the different levels of hell. We're not talking about gehenna here
There's no reason to stop.
I'm right and it's important, or you are right and it doesn't matter one way or the other.
Of course your theology cannot possibly be right, because it's internally incoherent. But for the purpose of this argument, even if you are right there's no actual reason not to teach purgatory beyond you not liking it.
Their isn't no purgatory you either go to heaven or hell and if you go to hell it's for eternity you cannot pray for the people in hell to get out that is nonsense!
13 each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
1 Corinthians 3:13
Do you believe that prayers can be wasted?
Jesus never taught such a ridiculous concept
Yes He did. No one shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven until the last penny is paid Jesus said. He was referring to the cleansing fire of purgatory.
@@sklenars
No Jesus was not referring to purgatory
It was obvious a punishment for a crime
@@raysalmon6566 A punishment where? Jesus did NOT say you will NEVER enter the kingdom of Heaven. He was alluding to the penance of Purgatory
@@sklenars
That is chatholic dogma
Introduced to keep the members in check
@@raysalmon6566 I have to say if the Catholic church had a dogma that said there is no purgatory, that would be a much bigger incentive to keep its members on the straight and narrow. Only through Gods mercy do we have a final chance to escape damnation providing we die in Gods grace.
As for a punishment for a crime!! It sounds like Jesus would be acting for the prosecution rather than the defence of a wrong doer. "That 5 year sentence is not enough, he/she should be banged up in prison for at least 10 years". Jesus rarely if ever spoke of the criminal justice system of His day, except to say to he taunters....render unto Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is Gods...He was in the business of saving our immortal souls. As we know Jesus often spoke in parables, some would say riddles and this is one such case. If we do not do sufficient penance for our sins on earth (God will be the judge of that)that are repented and forgiven, we will have to complete our penance in purgatory.
Everyone believe in Jesus Christ, He paid for your sins and died on the cross for you already, receive this gift. He died and resurrected on the Third day! His sacrifice did it all already.
No for no one can enter into the kingdom unclean. These are the unclean. Rest assured however that they will eventually get there
Your pop Christianity is not what the new testament teaches
@@marvalice3455 would love to converse about this, you may go first!
@@angelalemos9811 I just saw this, no such thing as purgatory, we made clean by the blood of JESUS CHRIST ALONE!
@@TheCabin777 You trust yourself more than the Church Jesus established 2k years ago? Is that wise?
