I would encourage people to read Jedi Academy, but i definitely have some issues with it. The villian arc was kimd of cartoonish. He just was so powerful so fast. And to show that they had him beat Luke. Which just throws off all power scaling at the time. And the whole ship thing was just dumb. But all and all i like Kyp in the later story so i appreciated his back story being told.
Couldn’t have put it better myself. The villains felt very cartoony and just “dumbed down” compared to over ones we see in other novels. All in all I did enjoy it though and I like Kyp as well.
Not terrible, but pretty forgettable. I think this may be the second thing I read after the Thrawn trilogy, and it was definitely not nearly as good as the Thrawn trilogy. I think Kevin J Anderson is just not as good a writer.
@@station7thedoor Yeah I came into it with high expectations as I’ve seen many good things about it but it kind of felt like a Young Reader novel. Just lacked substance and nuance, especially compared to Zahns Trilogy. I haven’t yet read anything more from Kevin J. Anderson, so I can’t speak on whether he’s just not a good author, but even though I enjoyed the story, it definitely left some to be desired.
@@DarthTamarusI'm not sure where you got those high expectations from. JAT is widely regarded as pretty mid. I thought they were pretty average, but enjoyable for the most part. Several entertaining pasts in each of them for sure. The biggest thing for me, though, was how simply they were written. Had a lot of great lore and some other fantastic ideas, and I liked most of the characters, but the trilogy doesn't feel like it was written by a novelist. I believe KJA wanted to try to appeal to everyone, but he didn't really succeed, and as such, it comes off as kind of reading at a 6 grade novel. Very much felt like YA novels. So I totally get you mean. It's not simplistic per se, but they certainly aren't as complex as other novels. They lack depth. Still, I thought they were good overall. KJA is a great ideas man. But I wish there was more Mara!! I liked Darksaber much better, but still, I would say that was above average objectively speaking. A lot of people hate this book lol, but I enjoyed it. I thought it was hilarious. KJA is essentially the Michael Bay of sci-fi books. They can be entertaining sometimes, but don't hold up to close scrutiny. You know what you're getting when going into a MB movie. Bangs, explosions, over-the-top action. KJA tries to replicate that in his writing. I do find his books to be far more enjoyable when you don't read them back to back. I thought his Star Wars comics were fantastic, though!

@@DarthTamarus I feel like his stuff is pretty consistently middling.
@@station7thedoor I guess we’ll see when we got to Darksaber 😂
