- Late kung-fu star Bruce Lee's iconic yellow jumpsuit and nunchucks are a couple of 14 personal items that will go under the hammer at an auction in Hong Kong on Thursday (December 4), 40 years after his death.
The jumpsuit was one of the two that Lee wore while filming his last movie, the Game of Death, before his untimely demise at the age of 32 in 1973.
Lee designed the one-piece tracksuit himself. The flexible, handmade costume was meant to reflect his martial arts Jeet Kune Do's malleable nature - that it is not fixed to any traditional martial arts philosophy.
Anna Lee, vice chairperson of collectables auction house Spink China and no relation to Bruce Lee, said the jumpsuit is expected to fetch from HK$250,000 to HK$300,000 (US$32,000 to US$39,000) due to its rarity.
"We've been told that two (yellow jumpsuits) were made for Bruce (Lee) and two others were made for stuntmen. And this being one of the two that were worn physically by him. And I do believe this is the least worn because of the condition, it's still pretty good. The last fight he had with the Hapkido expert from Korea, it was documented that the zipper was broken, I believe that was the last time that was ever worn by him. On the collar it is stated Golden Harvest Film City, property of Golden Harvest," Lee said on Monday (December 2)'s media preview.
A few other items featured in the auction showed the late kungfu master's artistic flair.
One of them was a pendant that Lee designed just months before his death. It featured a dragon in white gold and another in yellow gold perched above a piece of jade, facing each other.
Another was a drawing of a Chinese master monk that is believed to be a conceptual character for "The Green Bamboo Warrior", a movie that was never made because of his premature death.
These items helped shed light on the actor's personality, said Anna Lee.
"He enjoys painting, he enjoys writing letters or whatever, so basically he's just a person who is very emotional in a way. He is just a good man at heart, I think," Lee said.
A Bruce Lee collector, Stanley Zau, said he would come to Thursday's (December 5) auction and came to take a look at the items for sale on Monday (December 2)
Zau already owns a claw prop used by Lee's nemesis in the movie Enter the Dragon and nunchuks that Lee used for regular practice.
He said the items at this auction reflected Lee's philosophy.
"I think it tells you that the man is capable of turning something rather simple into something very elegant. The bell really rings with a lot of people."
Thursday's auction is expected to fetch a total of HK$1 million to HK$1.5 million (US$129,000 to US$193,000).
A number of Bruce Lee-themed events took place in Hong Kong this year to coincide with the 40th anniversary of his death.
Earlier in July, Hong Kong opened a five-year exhibition that displays over 600 items, many of which are on loan from the Bruce Lee Foundation run by his daughter Shannon Lee.
Fans also marked the anniversary with art exhibitions, gallery shows and a memorial trail that marked six spots relevant to Lee's life across the former British colony.
The world is bored without Bruce Lee.
Great martial artists...in the world...love you..Bruce sir
The real suit still has Kareem's foot print.
Yea
He used two jumpsuits during production
Classic film. Game of death outfit thanks for sharing your information on Bruce Lee outfit
The nunchucks in the movie were made of foam. If you look closely you can see them bend.
Not just that look at the bottom tip of it
They are the 'hero' wooden set and were only used briefly for a quick shot of the nunchaku being dropped to the floor.
Only one hero wooden set was ever made but multiple sets of the 'stunt' prop nunchaku were manufactured, some broke during filming, some were gifted but many seem lost to time.
I actually own a stunt prop pair that I purchased from George Lee's private collection.
@@stephenpaul868 I always thought the wooden pair was made exclusively for the reshoots/additional shots done with Bruce's stand-in for the '78 version.
@@tasken_lander_redux4775 If you look closely at the original footage the pair that are dropped to the floor are completely different to the nunchaku Bruce uses,, different scale, colour and cord.
I wouldn't be surprised if George Lee made extra sets for pick up shots in 78, I would love to know more about it all.
@@stephenpaul868 Sorry, misread your initial comment. Yeah, I'm in total agreement with you!
ALL FAKE !!!!!!!
How do you know?.. I've seen this in our country news programme in malaysia
! That jumpsuit was not the Real one. That was the jumpsuit wore by bruce's double kim t chung in 1978 Game of Death. The Real one is missing.
that yellow jump suit is so fake....the one bruce wore has no opening in the chest! That's a Halloween costume one haha.
that is the back opening ...
The bamboo stick is not the real one used by Bruce Lee.
That yellow jumpsuit undoubtedly wasn’t one Bruce Lee had wore. It’s way too big judging by it’s waistline. I would doubt anything to be authentic, even by Shannon Lee herself. She had attempted all means to bank on her dad’s legacy that it’s getting harder to believe everything now.
There’s no black footprint on it either
Bank on her's dad's legacy?...The guy left his 2 kids fatherless at an early age because he lived a reckless life style...If her father couldn't support her in life then he could at least support her after his death
The armpit seams also appear wrong.
This is the absulut scam. This suit is one of several that have been used in the 1978 version, and a motorcycle suit was the doubles wearing. It just like he in the film is. The Nunchaku is never the original.
Oliver Pliatsikas I agree, that suit looks so off. Not even close to the one Bruce wore
@@bittmanbobby Its close but, agree, at BEST it was one worn by Bruce's stand-in's in 1978's GOD.
I dont think its authentic, because its kind of loose fit. And the sleeves are not short.
That’s a jumpsuit they aren’t suppose to be short look at the movie
Bruce Lee in Hong Kong is like Elvis in America But bigger imo
I want those Nunchucks
Me too
suit too baggy
right. the one Lee wears was skin tight. this looks like a halloween costume or a pair of pajamas.
Thanks
Love it
Nice!
The authentic stuff is probably with his daughter, and museum!!
Nice
it made in china
Dan isonato probably has the real ones.
Doubt it , he wouldve mentioned it if he did
No. Betty Ting Pei. She kept a pair of Bruce’s pants which she eventually gave it to Stephen Chow, a die-hard fan.
If anyone would have it , would be his daughter . But it seems as if the original suit went missing . She has displayed an outfit her wore in Enter the Dragon , but never this one .
Looks fake
Why
@@nolandocastro6110 because it's take
Fake. This is not bruce lees
آلله يرحمه الاسطورة بروسلي هو الأول طبعا نمبروان لم يهزم من اي حد قط
Wow
I want this suit please
Every one there want to play with those nunchucks
I want it
I studied graphology and judging by the handwriting of that drawing, that is forged cursive of Bruce Lee's. It's not authentic!
Bruce lee couldn’t draw
Wrong , he could draw as seen in his gung fu book as well as The Legend docu movie
The forger didnt do his homework : the "G" logo wasnt used until 1979 so Lee could never have sgd this !
@@postersandstuff yeah ik I just found that out but still this isn’t legit bc bruce Lee’s iconic yellow jump suit was never found it was lost along with the other props from game of death
@@postersandstuff I confused it with can’t swim I was thinking of two totally different things 😂😂
The Best, The king (Rio de Janeiro Brazil)
No jabbar footprint? Fake lol
Supposedly they washed off the foot print on the real one ?
There were two used for the 1972 film one with foot print and one with not.
Firstly, Bruce Lee' suit was not yellow, only the sneakers were yellow...watch the movie well ...
どう見ても七分袖で本物に見えない…黒ラインも太すぎるし生地が新しすぎませんか!ヌンチャクもね!
Bruce lee couldn’t draw he would get mad bc of it he never wrote letters his wife Linda drew and wrote his book meaning Linda wrote down what Bruce was saying and the jump suit is a fake the real one was never found
All fake. The bamboo stick looks nothing like the one in the movie and the jumpsuit is too wide and thr black stripe is also much wider. Maybe it was the one used by the 1978 double who had a much wider body frame than Bruce. Someone got ripped off. Hong Kong don't have laws prohibiting forgeries so it's a very dodgy place to have an auction
