Booka Shade - Vertigo

10 years ago, in July 2004, "Vertigo" was released -- the first single taken off our first album ´Memento´.
it was also the concert opener of the 2004-2005 tour.

it´s based on the film "Here After" by Patrick Jolley, a film maker who sadly passed away in 2012, and was re-cut by the visual director for the show at that time, Fubbi Karlsson.
the visual aspect of our music was very important to us from day one (the whole Memento´ album was based around the idea the we produced music late night in the studio while we had movies running on the TV screen with the sound off), and we were lucky that long time companion Eike Koenig (eike´s grafischer hort) created the artworks for the first albums.
when we decided to create a live show to promote the album, it was clear it would feature visuals / video all the way through.
Fubbi came up with the crazy idea that we needed a large 16:9 cinema sized screen with us for every show, so we had our own one made.
it was a monster and it was a nightmare to fix it somewhere in the clubs that we played (in the very beginning, we played small disco nightclubs without a proper stage).
looking back, we made a lot of beginner´s mistakes, but it was pure enthusiasm that pushed us forward.
we still believe it was the right thing to do.
we´re a live band and we have to make the effort.
a lot has changed in the ten years that followed, and when we watch this video, we realize once more what a privilege it is to still be part of the electronic music scene, to be able to travel the world and present our music.
