Hey that you for all the work you guys put into your videos…us nerds eat it up…also could I be entered to win that OLED Switch? Thank you for the opportunity.
Facts about the ps1- you can't play it on a switch but can easily with ur phone. Also oled sounds nice I'll give my original switch to my sibling if i win.
Absolutely love listening to these while working out, they're around 1 hour long which is how long I work out for. It's hard to find interesting content that doesn't get monotonous over the course of an hour but this really does it for me. The songs playing in the background make it even better, whoever picks them has great taste
I’ve been watching DYKG for almost 10 years now. It was one of the first UA-cam subscriptions I had in high school. I live this channel and everything you guys do. Please never stop with the awesome information!
DYKG has always been a gem on youtube, and I'm always impressed with the effort they put into unraveling the mysteries of games over the decades. Here's to more years of facts.
I’ve been a PlayStation guy since the first one came out, and at one point I even worked for SCEA. While at Vivendi i helped set up a few of the enormous PS3 dev kits when they first arrived. I thought I knew a thing or two about the PlayStation brand and products, but this video was basically nonstop schooling for me. What a fantastic compilation.
@@NonsensicalSpudz Yep! When I started there it was still Vivendi Universal! I remember someone messing with one of the signs so that Vivendi Games said “end me”. 😹
This channel never seem to fail to entertain me. Back when I'm studied or after work or just having had a bad day. As a long time fact searching nerd myself, I'm always feeling challanged to check these videos out and see what I already know and what I did not know. Thank you guys at DidYouKnow for putting consistent effort into your videos!
I'll never pass up an opportunity to hear some more Caddy, his voice is like the comedic butter. Absolute favorite to put on after a long work day. Thanks for featuring the Sony fan lad
Lol, Bosnia and Herzegowina not on the list of most pirated games. I never saw an original playstation disc while growing up, only heard playgroung rumors about them. Ps ones, sold in stores already with the modchip installed right out of the box. Most likely Sony never had any reports from that country, so they never knew.
Same here in the Philippines. If you had an original (unmodded) console and original (unpirated) games you were one of the rich kids lol. Everyone bought and used pirated games -- even gaming cafes, which are a big thing here. Even mall stores sold them, out in the open. I think the business has died out somewhat recently, probably because everyone can jsut download them now since internet speeds have improved a lot. My first unmodded console was the Xbox One, and actually buying the games made me appreciate the value of games and learn to support the devs. I'm all-digital now on my Series X.
I was, and somewhat still is, afraid of the PS1 boot-up screen. It has such a eerie vibe. On the opposite end, PS3's warm symphony startup sound is my favorite.
I still remember playing on the PS2 all those years back, a lot of those weird commercials and media surrounding it bring up so many memories. Great video as always guys!
Here is a not-so-interesting PlayStation fact: when I was a kid all my friends had a playstation and I didn't have one. I was super jealous even if I had a PC which could run stuff better than their console. It became an obsession, to the point that years later I learned about emulators and played all those old games I couldn't when I was a kid. To this day I'm still obsessed with the PS era graphics and the low-poly wiggly models.
I was so excited to hear that they started uploading their compilations as podcasts! That's how I consume most of my media recently as I work in a place with a warehouse!
I never knew that Sony partnered with Nintendo before making their own console! I love watching these gaming history and facts videos, keep up the good work :)
My late Korean War vet grandfather laughed at the idea that Sadam has a stockpile of PS2s knowing it's easier to do that with a computer even know he had little knowledge of PCs he just knew It was dumb from the context of the story.
most likely because these are old video's combined together. Looking at the ps4 sales 40M+. Sounds like this vide has been made more then a few years ago
15 years after I first fell in love with video games, I’m finally engaging with communities I used to feel I could never belong to. I’m just thankful to everyone who shares their love for these games because it helped me embrace mine
Can’t get enough of these videos. Hits that sweet spot between nostalgia and trivia that’s fun to relax to, work to, even for games I’ve never played… some of which I try because of these. Feedback loop.
I watch these videos to get inspiration for my own game development hobby. Knowing interesting facts about how these devs crafted my childhood really makes my drive to work bearable. And I'm happy to know this might get uploaded to Spotify!
How has it fallen? They have been ranked no.1 since ps1 and with the most sells and with the biggest userbase with the best award winning games with the highest graphical fidelity even when they have had a weaker console and they have the best devs? 😂
I am a huge DYKG fan. I am glad that you made these available via podcasts so we can listen in the back ground. Thank you. The PS1 was the first console we bought at launch. was super excited for RPGs to come out.
PS1 and PS2 are my absolute favorite PlayStation generations, filled to the brim with all kinds of genres and a lot of experimentation. PS2 in particular has aged like a fine wine, especially on HD using a PS4 or emulated on PC.
I had no idea there were hour long clips! I've definitely ran out of background noise, so I'm very happy do have found this! (This is my OLED comment but even still I appreciate you bringing light to this channel)
I just love how this channel(and the other one) always add another to these amazing games and consoles. From missing/canceled parts to weird easter eggs that I probably would have never caught on my own. It just reminds me how much soul and love are put into the games. It also reminds me that these developers and other people are human and that anyone can achieve greatness. Sometimes magic happens under certain circumstances.
Did you know that certain PS1 games (from 1998 onwards) have a system called Anti-Modchip protection, where if you play a game on a console that has a modchip (except stealth modchips, since they work differently) then the game will halt and not play through the rest of the game after some logos or just loading, and you will get an error screen. Early Japanese games (such as PoPoRoGue) simply shows a Red Hand in a circle, in which some people call it the Red Hand Project, later Japanese games and English releases too will instead show a Software Terminated message with a No Entry sign, with English ones also showing the phone number for Sony Computer Entertainment America. With European releases, Anti Modchip was almost not there, since most games that are protected in Europe (such as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis) use a different anti piracy measure called LibCrypt, where if a burnt disc is being run on any PS1 (modded or not) then it will not boot, the only PAL release with Anti-Modchip protection is Um Jammer Lammy (as far as I know anyway), but also mistakenly shows the Japanese error screen and not the English one. For stealth modchips though, after the game has gone through the loading processes and all that, the modchip then turns itself off, as if there’s no modchip present, so you can play Anti Modchip protected games without patching them, since even if it’s a legit disc you can still get the error on a modded system that isn’t stealth.
The dedication of this channel and its staff is truly amazing! Deep dives into lore and lesser known facts are not easy, so thank you everyone for your work.

I’ve been watching a lot these 1 hour recently. Great background noise for when I’m doing chores or assignments, sometimes while I’m gaming myself. It’s very nice learning new facts about the industry.
Its kinda funny that my main reason for buying my PS1,2,3 has always been for one reason. To play Final Fantasy games. In a way, the series shows how each console generation has been improving since the NES days all the way up to now.
I love being called out in your announcement video about going to sleep to these videos. All in all I love the channel(s) and honestly can't wait to see more. Keep it up guys.
Here in Argentina PS1/2 piracy was probably worse than Russia. Finding an original game and an unmodded console was really hard, every game store had their walls literally covered with pirated games and most consoles were sold with mod chips already installed. I don't remember ever seeing an original PS1 disc outside of Walmart.
