Thanks for sharing this valuable information. But I have one question. I was asked to maintain the temperature at 530 C - 540 C for aluminium alloy. When compared to the melting point of aluminium, 660 C it is way higher than the limits for the recrystallization temperature as the lecture. Could you please explain this?
thank you for this video. I am a little confused though. You mentioned that one way of strengthening a material is to reduce the grain size so that the material doesn't slip as much. Why then will the HCP material be more brittle given that it has less slip systems and as such, should slip less. Does having less slip systems not achieve the same aim as reducing the grain size?
When you strengthen a material, often it does become more brittle. There is a distinction between strength and ductility. Ductile systems deform but do not break. Many brittle systems break when they deform, but they do not deform easily because they are strong.
