Yes pretty much all HID and LED has a ballast. With the HID it’s better to have a harness that connect to the battery, if not some cheap kits one might be on and another no. Then you have to turn off and on few times before both comes on.
I drive a 2018 Forester. Are these lights Subaru approved? I would like better lighting I just don't want to install lights that will burn the protective plastic or wiring.
I'm interested in upgrading my Subaru headlights but noticed the disclaimer on your website that these are illegal. Can you shed some light, no pun intended.
How well do these hold up with off-roading ? Dirt, dust, mud and deepish water crossings? My concern is the cooling fans and the ballasts looked like they were vented. Thanks.
Just a question I have a 2017 Forester and I have halogen headlights can I just replace the bulbs and it'll still work? Or do I have to switch out the entire headlight unit with a projector?
Great video. I would like to order these, but my only concern is that this blind oncoming traffic. They look VERY bright. Will the Auto feature still work to turn lights on when it gets darker?
Yes, the auto feature will work exactly as it does with your halogens. Also, there are many factors and many upgrades to headlight housings over the years that help mitigate any glare to oncoming drivers. It is more or less the color of the light which causes distraction and not the actual brightness intensity itself. If you notice, the most distracting lights to see on the road are the blue HID lights which cause a lot of glare for the human eye, whereas you probably never noticed the 6000K lights on the road because they are more natural to the human eye.
Ok, I have a base model 2014 Forester as my winter car. I am in canada, is the link above the exact ones used in the video? So, just to be clear, you think if I order the ones in the video, they won't be distracting to oncoming drivers?
Yes, the product linked in the description is the exact same as installed in the video. There are many factors and many upgrades to headlight housings over the years that help mitigate any glare to oncoming drivers. For this reason, we only carry the 6000K color for headlight bulbs.
Yes, the headlight conversion is designed for the stock halogen housing. 2014 Forester Premium - for the high-beams you suggest a 9005 LED. Since the highs and DRL are controlled by the same bulb - how does the LED adapt as a DRL?
There would not be any issues when installing the 9005 kit on your highs, as it would also upgrade your DRLs. The kit will work for both your highs and DRLs without any problems, as our LEDs are designed to dim once your DRLs ignite.
Both the parking light and trunk light would use the same T10 bulb, which you can find here: www.precisionled.com/premium-t10-canbus-6smd-5730-led.html
just picked up a 16 forester xt touring. Are these considered as an upgrade from the factory HIDs and are they street legal? I also, wanna get an led high beam replacement.
Unfortunately, you are not able to swap your stock HIDs to aftermarket LEDs, as the products are incompatible. The ballast and bulb fitments are entirely different. It would entail swapping out your entire housing and stock wiring, which we do not recommend.
Thank you for your interest. No, it does not matter in this vehicle's case, as the housing is designed to shine line evenly onto the road. Also, our LED bulbs come with a great even light pattern. Regardless, you should only be able to install the bulb into the housing in a single orientation.
Hi there, i have few questions about this product. 1. Just to make sure, this will work on a 2017 base model 2.5i forester right? 2. Is the pricing of $139.99 for both sides or just one side? 3. Do i need to re-aim the lights after installation? Or are they already set at the correct height? Thanks
Thank you for your interest. Yes, the kit linked in the description is compatible with your 2017 model. The 139.99 cost is for both sides of the vehicle. No, you do not typically have to adjust the headlight cutoff line after installation. The LEDs would be set to the correct height.
Yes, here is the correct H11 bulb fitment for your 2014 Forester: www.precisionled.com/premium-h11-21-smd-5730-led.html Please note, this is for a single LED bulb, and you would have to adjust the quantity to 2.

Do you by any chance have any info about 2013 Forester DRL/High Beam LED swaps? I've been reading online that I would need to disconnect the DRL resistor, but I can't locate it. All the info I've found online have only been for 2014 models and newer or 2012 and older, but absolutely nothing on 2013. Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance!
For the high beam swap you would install this kit: www.precisionled.com/shop-by-led/headlight-leds/9005-led.html Our products call for a simple plug-and-play installation, so you would not need to do anything other than follow the instructions in the video above. Hi! This video is specifically for the 4th generation, years 2012-2019. You may be referring to a 2020+ headlight assembly, which we have no had a chance to work with yet.
Thank you for your interest. Yes, we do carry a kit for the 2017 Subaru Forester low beams, which you can find here: www.precisionled.com/premium-h11-cree-hl-gl-headlight-led.html Please note, this kit is only compatible with your vehicle if your vehicle comes with stock halogens, and NOT stock HIDs.
I was told that the headlight housing designed for Halogen does not properly reflect LED lights, as the direction(s) of emission are quite different. Also that if/when changing bulbs like this, one needs to monitor and possible adjust the aim of the headlights. Else they may well be shining above recommended heights, and this all is why they are not deemed legal for DIY changes.
This is how you blind other people. LED bulbs in a reflector housing is such a dick move. You can even see a PERFECT example in the shot where he has one halogen bulb installed and one LED.
