  • A short hike in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. About a mile total, out and back.
This trailhead is located in Naples, FL. It's maintained by the the Friends of Fakahatchee. Please donate to them upon entering the park.
You'll see many herons and ibis, osprey and vultures. There are also several alligators and I even saw a snake. There are no doubt many other creatures there but that is what my camera captured on this late afternoon trip in March. They're famous for their bald eagle nest and the strangler figs wrapping around the cypress trees.

Nice work! You got a great shot of the gator closing the nictating membrane to protect the eyes. I cought similar gator action on Janes Scenic and at the Boardwalk in May of this year. The gators clean out the water holes when they start to dry up.

Yeah it was really cool. I watched that gator for quite a while. So much great wildlife in the whole area.
