  • You tell me... Is my performance (recorded BEFORE I saw the Fool Us episode) the same trick as Joe Diamonds?? Let me know in the comments.
The trick I perform is a self working card trick and is my interpretation of a published trick in many books so I am informed. This may be the same way Joe performed his but not sure.

The exact same thing happened to me! Saw this trick yesterday and instantly recognised it. I perform this regularly in pubs etc

Yes, it can be found in Karl Fulves' The Big Book of Magic. It's in the mental section. It was developed by Sam Schwartz titled Thought Echo. It's a strong effect.

Yup! That’s why I told P&T “The Schwartz is with You!”

Would you mind I share my take on it?
Assuming only the "worthy" would actually go through the comments: I see no reason to not share it here :)
Pretty much "the same" technique, actually. But it may not seem such in first glance... to the spectator.
    Especially since I improvise significantly.
I get two spectators before me...
1- Give one of them a choice to choose any number after false shuffles and cuts (Sometimes even propose the one who guesses closest to the top card for laughs)... It is important to ask the spectator to give a number that is pretty much in the area of the third, and at least a quarter or so of the deck. (Anything less than ten, and I simply state that the idea is to eventually have had the deck slit into 3 stacks).
2- Holding the deck in my hand: I ask the other spectator to count the cards down to the given number minus one.
3- Taking a peak at the bottom card; I hand the spectator that said the number the remaining cards in my hand and say: "take your (top) card and get a good look at it".
4- Then I tell him/her to split the deck in tow and to give me the bottom half.
5- I turn to the spectator and give them a choice: "Now would you like to pick a card from the pile I have in my hand; or the pile you have in your hand?".
6- If they choose to go for what I have n my hand; I go for a different routine (Hence why I took a glimpse at the bottom card)... But if they choose their own: I do pretty much what you have done... But since I know the amount of cards dealt; I do not have to "specifically" go through the cards t find it.
From here onwards: THE THING I do is actually an improvisation to the max...
I know WHERE the card of one of the spectators is. And I know WHAT the card of the other is.
Sometimes I go through the cards, as did you... Sometimes I add up the cards to sum up to the location of the one I know (If the math works)... And sometimes I say things like "regardless how well you shuffled: I know where you put your card (in these cases I prefer to have them riffle shuffle to have it seem more convincing that I have actually tracked it)... and to the other I say "Oh I didn't have to track yours... you picked your card before you shuffled, and I had already memorised the whole deck" and I just say what card it is...
I have had SO many outs depending on the situation (also depending on what deck they chose to continue to work on).
This is a surprisingly annoying trick to those that are into card tricks but don't realise how it may have been done. And the way I give them options and include variations just adds to it.
But for a regular spectator, honestly: "it is just another impressive card trick"... So I make it part of an act to be a savant of sort, via ensuring my other tricks are in line with finding cards or ACAAN variations.
I hope it was worth your time reading through this so as to inspire anyone that has done so...

The only difference is that in this performance he _pre-shuffles_ the cards (quite a bit).

    Two comments:
    1. In your variant, you can simply count the number of cards discarded to automatically know the 1st selected. Then you also automatically know at which position the 2nd card is once the cards are all put together. No need to go through your search for biggest heart then reverse calculate the position of the 2nd card…you need to do it in case the selection is done by cutting like on P&T.
    2. Joe already explained how this trick is done 2 years ago on Scam Nation: ua-cam.com/video/i-2SCi2TE5Q/v-deo.htmlsi=E1s5kaFjr4Yyv56u

Thanks for the variation, I like your suggestions. As it's a trick that I've done for a long time I guess I'm just used to counting the cards, but think I'll adapt it and use your suggestion. Thank you. And thanks for the link, I've never seen him do this before. Cheers.

Fun fact: he spreads out the cards on the table at the end, and if you pause, you can see the cards that are clumped together, as expected.

Yep. That's the one! I'm a well-read magic enthusiast, with some experience performing, and a small but quality 'Magic Library'. Watching _Fool Us_ I noticed Joe started by maintaining a stack, and quickly felt I recognised the trick. It's a VERY well-known trick as far as I'm concerned, so I was a little disappointed to see Joe try and slide such a recognisable self-working trick past P&T. But yeah - it's the same one.

I was shocked too, after over 60 auditions, THIS was producers picked for me to perform. I just went on expecting not to fool them, just to have fun, (hence my prediction 😂)

I have a question I did this trick years and years ago and still have this problem what you didn't explain which I feel is most important is what happens if the first spectator say deals less than the 11 cards ontop of the stack and doesn't go into the stack. Please help as when I performed this people wud try to catch me out and only deal like 7 cards and stop and would mess me up.
