If you want to be able to deal with somebody who really knows how to hit a tennis ball--and particularly with a lot of energy on it (pace or spin or both), you MUST develop this habit. It makes the game so much easier and smoother, keeps your head from having to move, and makes possible to deal with balls you may have thought impossible before. For myself, I do not like the statement, "take the racquet back," very much. "Make the turn and set the racquet" all in one motion works better for me.
