Really nice build. I did a Twin Cam swap on my 1992 FXRS, i took a 110 screamin eagle engine and a 6 Speed Tranny. I put on an Oilpan from Deviant Fabrications, so you don't have to cut the frame. The Rims and Suspension i took from an Harley XR1200X. That bike rides perfect. Greetings from Germany! As an German i like to ride American Bikes !
What a gorgeous build. I am currently on the hunt for a clean FXR, I hope to find one in good condition soon. Seems like the best option is out of state since CA prices are crazy right now. Keep the shiny side up!
Supertrapp is a dope ass pipe and this is a sick bike! I put supertrapp on my 98 1200S I had. Super good performance. I just sold that, bike and hoping to find a good deal on an FXR this fall.
Thanks man. I gotta admit, though, I just swapped the Supertrapp for a Thrashin (made by Fueling) and I actaull like it better. The Spertrapp was my sentimental favorite, but the Thrashin pipe looks and sounds better to me, and I suspect may perform better.
You can make a Road King handle well with the right suspension, handlebar controls, and brakes. The difference between BMWs and Harleys is that a BMW comes out of the factory with everything you need and nothing you don't. A Harley on the other hand has the look, but is designed with the aftermarket in mind. There's many different types of Harley riders and everyone has their own preference. I've put 8in Kraus risers, +2 suspension in the front, and 14" shocks in the rear of my Road Glide. The handling is completely different from when it was basically stock with just slip ons.
Agree. Is your RG an M8? What suspension did you choose for your RG, and did you do relocate the gauges when you added the risers? Timing is everything -- I am actually considering trying to buy a RG at the moment.
@@TheJedRides Mine is a 2016. I bought it barely used in 2017. I have a Kraus gage bezel, Russ Wernemont Designs shocks in the rear, and Patriot Springs with spacers for +2 shock tubes in the front.
I find people have allegiance either to Harley, or BMW, so you are representing both. I guess there are serious Honda fans too but not the same. Cool bike, I have never owned a Harley.
What a great build! I’ve got an 83 same color with a new S&S shovel top end I installed last winter. I’m running same fairing but with a BMC seat and RB Racing pipe. Love that front end too …your bike must be a blast to ride. That’s a legacy bike right there I’d never get rid of that. Enjoy 👍🏻
I understand your perspective and I thought long and hard about it. I kept the motor and have it on a stand in my office but I doubt it’ll ever. go back in. I’ve got a low mileage but in rough shape 94 FXR in the garage, too. Im working on it slowly but it will remain an Evo. 👍🏼
If both motors are properly maintained without any mods they will last a good time. I just heard that evo’s can be rebuilt because the crank pin isn’t fixed into the fly wheels as they are in the twin cam. But I could be wrong. I junked my Evo cases for a delkron aftermarket case and I’ve been really happy. But I think the harley cases were the weak link In the evo. Especially if you built out the motor. I kept pulling my cylinder studs right out.
@@jw3028 Agree about the cases. Mine in the '91 was cracked, actually. I was going to either replace the whole thing with an S&S 111 or a built TC and opted for the TC mostly because I had an engine builder I trust. I am feeling pretty confident in my welded crank, but those could be famous last words! Stock Evo vs stock (early) TC, I would take an Evo. But if you're going to build it for power, I think the TC is the way to go.
That engine has the internal oil routing right? What adapter did you use? The Vulcan adapter has the oil lines coming out the side but I don't see them on yours.
I'm running a Vulcan adapter between the evo tranny and the TC motor that may be hard to see because it is powder coated, and there's a black braided oil line from the oil tank that runs jut across he top of it into the motor. You can see it pretty well at 14 seconds into the video.
I have enjoyed it! The stock trnny is pretty bulletproof, and I don't take this bike very far. Between the small tank and the Mikuni 45, I can't go far! If I were going to tour on it, I might miss a 6 speed.
@@TheJedRides an older guy that lives down the street from my in laws has a 91 fxlr I want that bike soo bad!! He won't sell it though he says that his son will get it when he passes which I can respect! I want a 91 or an 85 or 86 fxrt!
Thanks. I agree it does look a little high. Maybe I’ve just gotten used to it, but I like it there now. I just glance slightly down from eye level to see it.
@@BAsed_AFro Probably not. I suspect you could get equal performance (for street) from a conventional rear shock that is at least preload adjustable. At the end of the day, there's only so much performance you can squeeze out of an FXR (or any dual shocked Harley).
Sorry for the delayed reply. Good question. It is still titled as a Harley Davidson. I had to go to the California Highway Patrol and get them to inspect the bike with the new engine and show them a certificate of ownership for the new engine. They filled out some paperwork that I then had to take to the DMV to revise the title to reflect the new engine number, since it no longer matches the VIN.
Love the build! What specification swingarm was it? I know you said c&s. The Dyna wheel is a bit wider than fxr. I was going to do a similar build but with a late model tc trans and a roadster rear wheel which is 18” 4.25 25mm. But I wanted to keep the original fxr shock mount position.
Thanks man. It’s just a stock length swingarm. I’m running 25mm axles. Lots of work to fit that wheel with a 160 on it. The bolt heads on the pulley barely clear the swingarm. It would have been a lot easier with a chain, but I wanted to run a belt for ease of maintenance.
