That was one of those PERFECT shock scenes (not perfect, poor girl dead, you know what I mean). There was a sinister aspect to the guy, we ALL knew he was bad news, but the way it was directed was perfection. Literally jumped outta my seat exclaiming WTF.
I had a hard time continuing the film after that. The friend was the true hero in the story, and she really should have come back at the end to save Samantha. Even if she died trying to save her it would have been more satisfying. I think killing her off so early was a cheap way to ratchet up the tension. Awful writing.
I’ll just say it: Nick is the person in a horror movie where you’re guaranteed to survive if you listen to him or you’re guaranteed to die, because he’s not going to waste time arguing with you. 😂😂😂 We ALL need a Nick in our lives.
$400 in 1983 is almost $1200 today. I dunno, I might get scratched up running through that whole field of red flags for $1200, for just a few hours of elder-sitting. 😂 Yeah, I'd probably deserve what I got too. 😂
She wanted that apartment! I'm sure getting her own place was a strong motivator. But then again, her friend did offer her $ so knowing what we know now she was definitely would have been better off taking that route
Your reaction when the friend got her head blown off made me choke on my moonshine. The longer you sat there in shock, the funnier it got for me! 👍🏻✌🏻💖
Omg I was soooo happy to see Dee in this video 😍 Also, hilarious that you filmed this reaction just to watch David’s video 😂 I literally watched this movie for the first time the day he posted his reaction, then watched his reaction minutes after finishing the movie 😂
I know this is like a whole year later and you probably already know this but they're both in Doctor Sleep! Alex Essoe as Wendy, Jocelin Donahue as Abra's mom. Both great indie scream queens, I hope Mike Flanagan casts them both again in his future projects in bigger roles!
The actor who plays the creeper at the house is a famous B movie villain. He played the Tooth Fairy in the original version of Red Dragon, and as bad guys in many other films in the 80's and 90's.
My parents rent in 2009 was $350 but they had to pay their own utilities. So that's what she probably had to do but this is probably supposed to be based in the 70s, 80s.
The main character in this was a supergenius compared to the one in the movie I watched last night. She was on a small island with a killer shark nearby. The tide was rising, but there were 15-20 foot hills on the island. Before the tide even completely covered the beach she was paddling away from the island in a kayak.
This is a really, good movie with the 1980's film aesthetic. Ti West also directed 2011's "The Innkeepers". You should also check out some movies directed by James Cullen Bressack. My favorite horror movies of his are "Pernicious", "To Jennifer", 2020's "The Call" with Lin Shaye and Tobin Bell. You should also check out "Limelight" but that's more of a 'family' film. 😉
Ti West seems to like his little "period piece" films. House of the Devil was set in the 1980s and X was set in 1979. Nothing wrong with that. I love when movies try to take us back to another time period, whether it be 15 years in the past, 50 years in the past, 3 centuries in the past or 2,000 years in the past.
See, I love stuff from like....50s and later...I struggle with period piece films tho. Like whatever that Northman movie was....zero interest whatsoever lol
Not me being too distracted with the aesthetic and plot to be completely blindsided when homegirl got her head blown off 🫢 I had to pause the movie for a good minute, that’s when I knew this movie wasn’t playing around 😂
YAY! So happy you've reacted to this! I do get the frustration of questions not being answered, but with this one, for some reason I didn't really have questions. I just figured oh ya they're clearly demented and pulling a rosemary's baby on this poor girl, womp womp. I just loved the tone and the simple pace and the incredibly authentic early-eighties vibe of the whole thing. And there's something about the lead I found quietly captivating, so it felt interesting even when she was wandering about doing basically nothing lol. Anyway glad you're back with your hilarious commentaries!
I feel like in hindsight, I care less about the unanswered questions because I know what he's capable of making ("X"). Excited to check out the rest of his stuff...hoping there's not a general theme of unanswered plot tho 😅
They called that babysitter at the last minute in an emergency situation specifically for a night where there was gonna be an eclipse. So you figure they had another girl originally set up to be the victim, but couldn't use her for some reason. Makes you wonder about that supposed mysterious original choice as a victim and what happened to her. Maybe she's fine, cancelled the job and went off on a trip or something.
"OMG, who is calling you .. Lionel Richie!!" That had me rolling. Plus now I have HELLO IS IT ME YOUR LOOING FOR, well actually the whole damn song stuck in my head! This was a great reaction!!!💚🖤

You have to watch The Innkeepers(2011) by Ti west too. Its a very atmospheric haunted house movie without any gory scenes. You might love it. Tbh i prefer it over this movie.
Nick: "Why do people think it's okay to touch other people that you don't know?" Dammit, I guess we're not allowed to touch Nick without his permission. So disappointing. The pretty people have to keep themselves safe I guess. Hands off the merchandise people. For $500, Nick will let you touch a shoulder for 3 whole seconds.
Nick, what's the exact color of that shirt you're wearing? Sorry, when I was in school, I just learned a few basic colors and never bothered with anything else. Green, Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Brown, Purple, Black, White, etc. When people start talking about much more specific colors, I'm like, wow. I remember when I first learned that grey and silver were considered two different colors for cars. Hell, they even have grey vs. silver for phones. They're not considered the same thing. There's variations or shades of all these colors. You look best wearing black and red in my opinion.
I guess I'd call it "Peach". It's like orange or pink depending on the lighting. And I agree, I just like to not always wear the same clothes on camera. But 90% of my wardrobe is black lol
Hey Nick! My route was a bit different: I saw Zzavid was doing a reaction, but decided to watch the movie first, then viewed his reaction and now yours! Loved them both, and again your editing in particular, but also your observations about the film as well. I agree, West really delivers on what he tries to do with the film: a minimalist, nostalgic throwback to 80s spooky occult horror. Then I went back and checked out your reaction to _X_ . Enjoyed it so much! Especially your humor, like how every time Pearl and Howard appear, you amp up their possible age by decade! Also, I don't know if anybody mentioned it in other comments, but the tall actor who plays Mr. Ulman, , is Tom Noonan, who also stars in _Manhunter_ the first film in which the character Hannibal Lecter appears. It is very different than later portrayals, but the film itself has a very unique visual style and a banger soundtrack. You should definitely check it out.
Great! Have no doubt those will make great reaction videos. Forgot to mention, nice appreciation of _The Descent_ , that is one really scary and tense film, and on so many levels! Also, I hope you feel much better now. I don't remember ever being so sick as when I got Covid. Hang in there and take care.

Oh hey, I know that it literally isn't anywhere near December But maybe you could do like a Christmas In July type of special, idk lmao I just really wanna see your reaction to Black Christmas from 1974, it inspired Halloween and John Carpenter absolutely loves it. It's by Bob Clark and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING TERRIFYING. Literally the most unsettling slasher villain I have ever seen, kinda scarier than Michael imo. Really underrated and it has some smart character decisions. And not only that, but it handles feminism pretty well, I think it was like the first horror movie to do that.
I have seen that a few times, and I do enjoy it! My schedule is pretty packed for the rest of the year, so I may not be able to get around to it. But you can check out my Patreon if you really, really want to see me watch it 😉
Great reaction and analysis. This movie was all style and no substance. I can't believe that multimillion dollar movies keep getting made without anyone to punch up the script. The ending was bullsh*t.
"I promise to make this as painless for you as possible". At first, you might think its an innocent comment, but my gosh, it sounds ominous after you've watched the movie. Besides, why use the word "painless" in that situation? I promise to make this as CONVENIENT for you as possible would probably be better. Or I promise to make this the least stressful for you as possible maybe? The painless thing is a red flag. Almost like he's getting off on taunting her without her knowing it.

In all fairness $400 was a lot of money back then & people were more trusting as well. Nowadays, if there is just 1 discrepancy you call the cops.
Omfg I love the house of the devil 🖤🖤😍😍
Enjoy the reaction and trauma! 😅👻
Cruella vibes with the old lady
I loved your reaction so much I hope you enjoy your vacation our you already took it but if you enjoy because you deserve it . Also when are going to finish the holy Trinity . The Holy Trinity will be completed before October. Hopefully Night If The Demons II will be up within the next few months. I have a lot to get through!
@@nicksaysboo17 sorryy if I was pushy I'm just really excited to see you back
Oh hey, I know that it literally isn't anywhere near December
But maybe you could do like a Christmas In July type of special, idk lmao
I just really wanna see your reaction to Black Christmas from 1974, it inspired Halloween and John Carpenter absolutely loves it.
But you can check out my Patreon if you really, really want to see me watch it 😉
I don’t like like movie with no time or like year it takes place cause then I’m like confused by everything.
All of this damn mess over 4 hundred dollars, helpppp 😭😭
some people are too cheap!
MAMA even if I was like broke and about to be evicted I would not take 400 dollars to "babysit".
Great reaction and analysis. This movie was all style and no substance. I can't believe that multimillion dollar movies keep getting made without anyone to punch up the script. The ending was bullsh*t.
I watched this as a child 😬😅
My first movie was horror, it's a gift!
Omg chill out
So sorry late on my likes. 😅
My spider sense immediately began to tingle! I know a devil worshipper when I see one 👹✝️
i found your channel through your videos on yellowjackets, glad to be here!
Happy to have you, and thanks to the spirit of Misty which led you to me 🤭
