I LOVED every messy, complex, toxic, co-dependent minute of this movie! There's nothing cookie cutter about it. The cinematography is outstanding! The time jumps go back and forth like a tennis match. I agree with you about the music being used to make you feel the emotion of the scenes versus the actual spoken words. This film is just BRILLIANT!
Tashi was definitely not rich and did not come from a wealthy background idk if you guys go on to coreect yourselves bit yeah. That Addidas party was not her house (it was provided by her Addidas sponsor... who paid for the party and everything) she literally tells them her parents would have never put her in a boardin school like Art and Patrick's clearly affluent parents threw them in bc mainly they could not afford it. That's part of Tashi's attachment to tennis: it was what was going to propel her life into economic stability (and personal/spiritual fulfillment) until she met Art and Patrick and the game changed for her forever.😅
The tumblr character analyses for this film btw are INSANE like people are peeling back the layers of each character so succinctly i can't stop reading their dissertations haha. One kinda short but stand out quote about the main dynamic running between these characters went like this: "A fun thing about Challengers is that instead of two men representin a duality for the girl to pick between fun one/serious one Tashi and Patrick are already Apollonian (T) and Dionysian (P) freaks respectively, leaving only beautiful borderline tabula rasa Art to be molded by their influence. Except he's also a Machiavellian little bitch in his own right. Everyone is doing weird power play shit and that's why it's a beautiful aspirational tale". Someone else simplified it and added: "Patrick and Tashi take turns making Art into their personal masterpiece, while Art quietly foils their efforts". There are no static characters in this triangle. It just makes for such an endearing, lively, and addictive experience that only furthers your enrichment with it with every rewatch and reaxmination of the characters. THIS is cinema! Anyway this movie is also going on my top of my year end of films list (and honestly the century for me it just completely Understands the zeitgeist right now? It just feels so youthful in how it centers attraction and endless in it's thematic possibilities? I'm obsessed!). Very enjoyable all around discussion from you all and oh! the writing for this film is very Underrated and I'm so serious! The guys at the opposite end of this lineup GET IT that's the attitude this film deserves everyone else needs to just rewatch it if they're not there yet imo 🤷🏾
