I've found you through your video on Pyke, but now I've just been binging your videos... I love seeing someone analyse these songs and soundtracks, who actually knows their stuff! There's so many "wannabe musicians" that are like: "Yeah, there's some violin in there... so that makes me think of Mozart", when it's a song about heartfelt sorrow and pain, describing what a character went through (not in this particular song, just in general), which they completely miss 'cause they were hyperfocussed on the Mozart thing. Music ist such a great indicator of personality, lore and emotions and it's just completely lost to some people. Thanks for the great content and greetings from Germany 👍
Tahm Kench is one of the most fascinating characters Riot has ever designed! His trailer alone was probably the most impactful character trailer in all of League, people LOVED him before he was even released. And once again, you hit the nail on the head. If you make a deal with him, you are damned. The sounds of this song are the sounds of the bayou, the swamp. And to the ignorant eye, the swamp looks shallow; I mean look at all those trees, most of their trunks are out of the water, it can't be that deep, right? Some are even foolish enough to step in; then the swamp swallows them whole.
Would love to see your take on Kindred's theme. I wouldn't want to spoil too much, but it's very beautiful and haunting. I personally believe it's one of the best champion themes-up there with Jhin, Fiddlesticks, and Tahm.
It's always cool how close you get to understanding a character just from listening to their music, not just for League, but with other games as well! I haven't been around League for a good while, but from what I remember, Tahm Kench is one of a handful of demon characters. They all feed on some kind of emotion or concept - Tahm is greed, Evelynn is agony, Raum (the one that Swain controls) is knowledge, Nocturne is nightmares and Fiddlesticks is fear. If you haven't already, it could be cool to see you react to Ekko's theme? I know he's gotten more popular recently with Arcane, but I've always loved his original theme from the game.
It seems to me that Tahm feeds off despair, specifically the despair that comes self inflicted via addiction. He doesn't directly hurt you, he only gives you the ability to give it one more try, one more time, one more attempt to get it right. And eventually you lose everything whether he takes it from you, or not. It doesn't matter; All that matters is that you hit rock bottom and either get swallowed in his maw or get swallowed again in the cycle of self-destruction.
Well it wasn't exactly the swamp, he's the river king. He basicly has no true name or appearance a they both depend on the victims. The one appearance he is most seen is as in the trailer (a monstuous siren) because he is a demon that feeds on greed and misery, therefore his victims are mostly found in Bligewater, a land of pirates . As to his name, tahm kench is just a nickname given by the character in the teaser, but he is mostly known as "Two-Coats" in Bilgewater, a name that reflects his appearance.
Tahm Kench is one if my absolute favorite characters design wise, I love him for the fact that he's not human (I love monster characters) and it's crazy how much you nailed his character just off the music. Wild.

I always thought of Tahm like the devil at the crossroads you make a deal with but he's in a swamp. Sitting on an island in the deep dark, gators watching you as you row a boat to it and he smiles as you approach.
EDIT: Im excited that you’ve decided to go through all of Leagues champions, the depth to each character Riot creates is astonishing and Im glad you’re having this much fun with it! Some Lore context though: The one linking motif between League’s demons, as you’ve surely noticed, is a sense of consumption (just like in Fiddle’s theme). In Runeterra, demons feed upon negative emotions, growing stronger and hungrier the more they consume. To this end, they use the “power” they gain to lure/trick people into experiencing whatever emotion they find most tasty. Tahm specifically is a classic “Faustian deal” demon that gives struggling people these opportunities you read of only to erase whatever hope they had, and feast upon his favorite emotion: Misery. For Tahm, the serpentine river he resides near is a frequently used river and dumps out into the ocean right near Bilgewater, the pirate-y leviathan hunter island where plenty of people are rung dry to claim any opportunity. Perfect for his “distinguished” appetite of misery and Faustian contracts. Fiddlesticks, on the other hand, is a MUCH larger and impossibly ancient can of worms. While Tahm was spawned from negative human emotions, Fiddlesticks was spawned at the very breath of creation. As all of life, love, and joy was created at the dawn of time, so too was fear. And THAT is what fiddlesticks is.
When I hear TK's theme (the first part at least), I just think of like a cowboy who can manipulate someone into playing his game to get all of their money

Spot on once again my man! Really loving these videos, your musical insight is always super interesting to hear. Have a nice day and much love from Italy
Man you usually get pretty close on all the themes but you nailed tahm on the first pass, i guess thats just another sign of all the care riot puts into these. Also idk which ones you have or havnt listened to but not posted yet. But id sugest camille, kindred, and xayah and rakan. Xayah and rakan might be a doubly interesting one becauae they are 2 separate characters but tied together in their lore and even released at the same exact time.
I've always loved the League Champion themes and have thought about trying to guess the champion from the theme in the past so finding your videos have been really cool and has re-invigorated my love for the themes with how well they portray the idea of the champion though the music. It's nuts how accurate you are without even seeing the champion. I also like how you are going over the champion lore to see how accurate your guess was. If I were to suggest some themes to look at I think Vel'koz, Sion, Yorick, and Aurelion Sol are interesting ones that haven't been mentioned much before. They are mostly older and don't get much attention but I'd be interested in seeing how much you could get out of them. Of course there are the popular ones E.g. Camille, Aphelios, Kindred, Braum, etc. to go through as well. Enjoying the content either way!
Just a heads up, the reason I suggested some of those old themes is because I want to see how much you can get from the themes before Riot really perfected the art of making character themes and I just want to see what kind of stories you can weave from what they made. If you want to listen to the better ones, go for the more recent themes. (not saying that some of the old themes aren't great as well)
Man, I love your videos and how you feel the music to see the story of the characters. Hope you could made a reaction to Kindred, Swain or Ornn. These are really good and the lore behind them is awesome
In league, demons are born from and embody negative emotions or mental states. Tahm Kench is the demon representing addiction. Hence why his victims initally need to "let him in." His sweet-tongued bargains start seemingly harmless, but escalate, growing more and more out of control until the person is no longer has a say as Tahm consumes everything originally important to them.
Tahm is one of my absolute favourites lore AND character wise, alonside Ornn and Aurelion. He is the personification of greed himself to a degree that you sometimes can't even tell if he is his own character or just a metaphor. In his story of the gambler, Tahm technically doesn't even need to appear as a real creature. Everything that happens could be read as the gambled falling into his old gambling habits again after leaving them behind once. Nothing needed to be "eatem up" by a catfish in a suit, it could be read as the gambler, well, gambling everything away. And while he was able to keep his wife by telling her that it was always "the last time", it ultimately killed her one way or another. Only then did the greed and gambling addiction leave the gambler and he realized what he alone had done. Tahm isn't actually as monstrous on his own, he can only act once people let him in. But oh so many do. Because what is just a little lie or ONE fun evening..
I would recommend "The curse of the Sad Mummy", it's not a really a champ theme, since it came out years after the character was added to the game, and the lyrics explain what the character is about. But it's still a amazing song none the less.
I love these kind of videos! I highly recommend some older songs, like Day's Light End (Diana's song) or Lissandra's, I particularly love them and I think they could be interesting because of how they convey their emotions through their music.
Another lovely video as always. For this spooky month, I have some recommendations-Evelynn, Agony’s Embrace, Warwick, the uncaged wrath of Zaun, and Kindred, the Eternal Hunters
Man i gotta learn some patience cause I just can't wait for more, you always get these spot on. Only one exception so far, I highly doubt there will be more haha
@@MarcoMeatball That's understandable, Kindred is a very strange, unique character after all (still a fan favourite though). Besides, there's no need to apologize for anything, everyone here is watching your videos for free :)
oh hey you are the first person i have seen to say he looks like a catfish, everyone else just calls my boy a frog! my favourite champion and the reason i started playing league of legends all those years ago. can we just appreciate that he is a demon that resembles a catfish, who then uses a well dressed sleasy southern charm to catfish people into literally gambling everything they didn't know they had away, before eating them alive. i like to think of the song as having three sections, the sort of playful hum at the beginning is him calling to you, then there is the fade out when you start to get close enough to realise this was probably a bad idea, then the water gurgles as he sucks you under to drown you in your own mistakes... and i am pretty shocked you managed to get that full vibe before even watching the trailer, even after the other videos i have seen you react to and nail so far. there is a wonderful audiodrama thing that came out a few years back involving a story of Tahm's interaction with a old drunkard former captain, these storys are part of the release for the champion Pyke.
Bilgewater the land mashed up of pirates and cowboy and their music theme of the champions and the region are also perfect mashups of those two. This is why i love this region music theme the most of all the regions.
Well, you got em like always. But I realy loved the fact that you found the trailer somewhat humorous. And if you ever saw Tahm in game, his animations are quite goofy, and can even seem harmless, untill he is ready to eat you. Love your work, and keep em coming!
Interesting that you detected a pirate vibe. He's connected to Bilgewater, which is basically Runeterra's version of a pirate bay/city. Music is an universal language but somehow you're kind of a mind reader when it comes to it, you get to know the composer's intentions better than anyone else 🤣 Great work as always!
If you haven’t already, Viego The Ruined King has one of the best themes in the game on a story level. Definitely a tells his entire backstory in a piece of music, and probably a lot more that I didn’t notice that you could.
Just found your channel and loving your vids but I think you should also listen to the champions voice lines before/instead of their lore. There are plenty of vids that show up if you just type [Champion] Voice Lines and those are just much more interesting than their lore imo.
Cool fact: theres a couple demons in league and every one has a specific type of negative emotion they feed of like evelynn is agony and tahm kench is addiction so you were very right on the predictions!
In a way This story makes me think of those southern devils and cross roads demons. The kinds of stories of a devil that would go around offering anything one would want, all they'd had to do is sign a contract (or gamble for it) but in the end what they get is never what they expect.
I don't think they make any more individual ones, and I don't know if it would make for a good video idea, but I highly recommend listening to some of the skin-themed songs. My personal favorite is Dragon Trainer Tristana. Not much lore to unpack, just a fun pet dragon-themed song.

Ah like aphelios! I have three recorded and many many more to come!
(not saying that some of the old themes aren't great as well)
To be clear I am seeing the picture and deducing from the music and That. :)
@@MarcoMeatball fair enough, still cool though
As much as I'd like you to react to Vi's theme, it has lyrics that tell you EXACTLY who she is.
Man, I love your videos and how you feel the music to see the story of the characters. Hope you could made a reaction to Kindred, Swain or Ornn. These are really good and the lore behind them is awesome
❤️❤️❤️
always amazes me how on the spot you are with guessing WHO the champion is by the music alone.
;)
In league, demons are born from and embody negative emotions or mental states. Tahm Kench is the demon representing addiction. Hence why his victims initally need to "let him in." His sweet-tongued bargains start seemingly harmless, but escalate, growing more and more out of control until the person is no longer has a say as Tahm consumes everything originally important to them.
Nice I really like the series and i'm happy that you want to go through all the champs it's really worth it!
Amazing! This just goes to show how good league music is composed.
I would recommend "The curse of the Sad Mummy", it's not a really a champ theme, since it came out years after the character was added to the game, and the lyrics explain what the character is about.
But it's still a amazing song none the less.
You're always SO on point. Amazing video Marco
I love these kind of videos! I highly recommend some older songs, like Day's Light End (Diana's song) or Lissandra's, I particularly love them and I think they could be interesting because of how they convey their emotions through their music.
In game his /dance emote is him strumming his theme on his tongue.
Great analysis ! I suggest you Urgot's theme, very underrated but excellent and unique
Another lovely video as always. For this spooky month, I have some recommendations-Evelynn, Agony’s Embrace, Warwick, the uncaged wrath of Zaun, and Kindred, the Eternal Hunters
My favorite login theme is Camille's. I think there is a lot to unpack in her theme.
Man i gotta learn some patience cause I just can't wait for more, you always get these spot on. Only one exception so far, I highly doubt there will be more haha
Wait till kindred - not very precise. I didn’t mean to wait this long for another league theme so I’m sorry about that
@@MarcoMeatball That's understandable, Kindred is a very strange, unique character after all (still a fan favourite though). Besides, there's no need to apologize for anything, everyone here is watching your videos for free :)
For a deeper insight insight into his personality in a musical take I recommend "River King" from Falconshield. It's a song written about Tahm Kench.
These videos are so damn good and they keep getting better everytime! Well done brother
I’m glad you like them!
oh hey you are the first person i have seen to say he looks like a catfish, everyone else just calls my boy a frog! my favourite champion and the reason i started playing league of legends all those years ago.
can we just appreciate that he is a demon that resembles a catfish, who then uses a well dressed sleasy southern charm to catfish people into literally gambling everything they didn't know they had away, before eating them alive.
i like to think of the song as having three sections, the sort of playful hum at the beginning is him calling to you, then there is the fade out when you start to get close enough to realise this was probably a bad idea, then the water gurgles as he sucks you under to drown you in your own mistakes...
and i am pretty shocked you managed to get that full vibe before even watching the trailer, even after the other videos i have seen you react to and nail so far.
there is a wonderful audiodrama thing that came out a few years back involving a story of Tahm's interaction with a old drunkard former captain, these storys are part of the release for the champion Pyke.
Ey, here it is, I was waiting for this. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Kindred, Akshan and Aatrox are all amazing, you should check them out too!
Bilgewater the land mashed up of pirates and cowboy and their music theme of the champions and the region are also perfect mashups of those two. This is why i love this region music theme the most of all the regions.
Its more of a pirate theme mixed with polynesian and Lousianna/voodoo folklore.
Well, you got em like always. But I realy loved the fact that you found the trailer somewhat humorous. And if you ever saw Tahm in game, his animations are quite goofy, and can even seem harmless, untill he is ready to eat you. Love your work, and keep em coming!
It both scared me and made me chuckle at how intense it was
Interesting that you detected a pirate vibe. He's connected to Bilgewater, which is basically Runeterra's version of a pirate bay/city.
Music is an universal language but somehow you're kind of a mind reader when it comes to it, you get to know the composer's intentions better than anyone else 🤣 Great work as always!
Damn that was pretty spot on, man! Amazing
Thanks!
Ooh I love this theme it scratches a part in my head
I was waiting for this one!
Im a sucker for some slide blues guitar, this was an awesome piece. Never heard of the character, but I can get a decent read from this theme.
If you haven’t already, Viego The Ruined King has one of the best themes in the game on a story level. Definitely a tells his entire backstory in a piece of music, and probably a lot more that I didn’t notice that you could.
He's already done viego
Yup it’s here
He’s just a businessman trying to do business he just so happens to eat people also.
This one was perfect, i say next must be Bard, one that is hard to explain by is music alone
I would love to see your reaction to Kalista's theme, since there's lots of choir there and just generally sounds amazing.
I love how u start to giggle after u realize u were right after the cinematic :D
😅
"well, I hesitate to say 'person'"
You got me with that one! I truly laughed out loud
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ketch will TOTALLY give you a hug. You just have to give him a meal. 😈
I don't think they make any more individual ones, and I don't know if it would make for a good video idea, but I highly recommend listening to some of the skin-themed songs. My personal favorite is Dragon Trainer Tristana. Not much lore to unpack, just a fun pet dragon-themed song.
"I wouldn't say he's a pirate."
Welcome to Bilgewater.
0:57 YUP, He's the definition of untrusty, and indeed a kind of mafia boss.
3:12 Tahm Kench is indeed a glutton who persuades others to a doom or to be eaten by them. "You could call him the river king, or maybe call him a demon".
You even got that he is located in Bilgewater, a sea-side pirate-vibe dirty town
u got his character 100% right quite impressive
Everyone has a desire. Tahm is using this fact to feed his own.
Holy shit! I recommended Tahm Kench and I got it. Alright!
Fantastic guess/analysis on the river king, my guy
It'll be cool to see you do Ornn, Poppy, or Bard
Kk ;)
Marco listening to the theme for the first time : *gets the story perfectly*
Me listening to the theme for the first time: big bayou fish
Lmaooo
OH YES, Tahm Kench is such a great character I love him
"Call me king, call me demon water forgets the name of the drown"
"They call me king, they call me demon..
Water forgets the name of the drowned"
I'm just glad you immediately realized he's a catfish and not a frog like most league players seem to incorrectly think
He’s got whiskers 😂
kench is like some kind of djinn. he'll grant your wish, but there's always a twist, and always a price
Dr. Mundo, Kindred and Sett champion themes would make for great content
Other champion
themes I really enjoy that you haven't listened to are Aphelios, Lillia, Senna, Urgot and Sylas
Epoch Winter: Tales of the Fatui reaction waiting room
To anyone who gets acquainted with this character, I recommend listening to the song Falkinshield-River King
ngl, league lore is one of the best of the industry
Like evil bayou music. Can imagine a giant murky river full of dangerous wildlife surrounded by weeds and trees.
