Hey Zack, I'm not sure why the fandom would be divided on this one either, possibly a good deal of fans came across BLACKPINK by listening to their newer (2020 to present) music which is more "in your face" and they don't bother with anything that hasn't got a huge drop or crazy rap. Just for context, BLACKPINK debuted in August 2016 with two songs, BOOMBAYAH and WHISTLE, then two months later they released PLAYING WITH FIRE and STAY, all four are dramatically different from each other. While BOOMBAYAH was a club banger and WHISTLE is chill with some good rapping, PLAYING WITH FIRE definitely has a more mature sound and STAY is a ballad. I'm assuming the diversity in styles was to show the range that BLACKPINK was capable of.
