Fun fact: Kardas is _still_ the tallest Bionicle figure ever. He's even taller than Toa Mata Nui, which is crazy to think about; and I'm pretty sure he's also even taller than most, if not all of the fan-made Bionicle sets, like the ones in the canon contests, or the many fan-made Dark Hunters.

He is taller than Botar? If so it's just cuz of wings or just entirely?

Great to hear your childhood nostalgia. I feel similar things about Bionicle, and we all have our own memories

Doctor who reference, speaking of it, Lego should make more of Doctor who Lego back, specially more Lego Daleks, Btw Lego should be making Bionicle back

Man, such a nostalgic video for me. I had picks 5 through 2 on the list, along with Brutaka - the Inika and Piraka have a soft spot in my heart, looking back. I loved all of these sets, even if they spent more time as components of random mishmash bionicle builds than they did as the originals, lol.

I kinda dislike the piraka sets. Like, they're great fidgets; but they also look super weird, and their spines have this annoying habit of really messing with whatever pose you want them to pull.

I had no idea of the varients of Irnakk with Vezok and Hakann, but didn't they also sell the varient with Thok's head? I don't know where, but I'm sure I've seen pictures of the promo!

If it's only about 2006 bionicle sets and i need to buy 5 i would go for Axxon, Brutaka, Vezon and Fenrakk and one more copy of Axxon and Brutaka to build Kardasch Dragon. (unless it counts as single set)

Here's a weird one: do you think you'd be interested in doing something related to the polybags? Either a recap of all of bionicles polybags or a moc showcase on how to build in the polybag style/with limited parts as a constrained creation exercise?

    • @BenCossyOfficial
      @BenCossyOfficial  Рік тому +1

If I had those polybag sets potentially I would. But I sadly don't own them.
I have done BIS episodes relating to builds with a limited part count. Maybe I could do more :)

2006 was the first year where I got nearly every set for that run! Second place was ‘07, but I was the perfect age to adore all the edginess the year had to offer. Also, shoutout to my grandparents for being on top of it with knowing who was who too! 👊

Another thing about the battery promo is that at the time it was on sale, one could get Toa Lekkhan's mask For Free! Considering the actual set was much more expensive, this made that kanohi way more accessible to be used in mocs.

If I had to pick five items to take five items from Bionicle 2006 it would be the other five of the piraka, I already have the all the toa inika and zaktan (I also grew up with zaktan:)

These sets were definitely impressive! Though I only have one set from 2006. (I was not aware of Bionicle G1 when it was around in the shop, so I got that and most other g1 sets from Bricklink.) It's the Piraka Outpost. I was more interested in playing around with the characters as minifigures, as well as having the locations of Voya Nui and other vehicles to add to the action. Gotta say they are also super cool.

well the question works a bit different for me since I own most of the 2006 sets so I would only pick ones with rare unique pieces.
so my picks would be brutaka, matoro (the only inika I never owned), zaktan (gimme more sand green!), irnakk (GSB!) and the piraka fortress

Top 5 Star Wars Sets of 2006:
2006 was a bit of an off year for Star Wars in my opinion. The Saga was complete with Revenge of the Sith in 2005, and that whole year's sets were absolutely killer. I managed to get everything from Revenge of the Sith's 2005 sets over the course of a few years except for the combo pack of the ARC-170 with a Trifighter Droid and polybag and CD, it was going to be hard for LEGO to follow up 2005. And then on top of that, there just wasn't a large selection of sets released in 2006, so what we got didn't interest me as much, or it just was less exciting than the hype that came from Revenge of the Sith. The A-Wing was a rehash, I've handled the one my friend had, even took it apart and rebuilt it, and it's just a more movie accurate looking set but compared to the original from 2000, it's practically the same buildwise. The B-Wing was also a rehash, but I had the original from 2000, and while I haven't handled it, I have to imagine it's mostly the same type of deal as the A-Wing just a bit thicker than the original. The X-Wing was a super rehash with just a few color swaps from the one in 2003 that came with Yoda's Hut, and I had that version, so no need to get another X-Wing. However there was still good to be had with some new entries to the Star Wars lineup, so on with the list!
    *5. 10174 Imperial AT-ST*
I know it's a little weird having an Ultimate Collector's Series set be in last place (at least it made the list), and it's a wonderful set, but it's always kind of stuck in an upright position. That's for balancing purposes, and you still have the option to rotate the head with a neat gear function, but it's still looking up when it's most often seen looking down. And while it does have a feature of opening the hatch, there is no detailed interior because of how the set is constructed. Not even just a single seat. If I had Vader's TIE Fighter, perhaps it would have taken this spot or even been higher on the list, but I can't share much info on a set I never owned.
    *4. 6209 **_Slave I_*
While I don't own this set, my friend did. Primarily why I never got it was because it was a rehash. And had I gotten it, I probably wouldn't have gotten 8097 in 2010 for the updated figs of Boba and Han in Carbonite, not to mention new Bossk and it just looked like a better rendition of the ship with its darker color pallet. Still, this one was more accurate than 7144 from 2000 (I love it though), and it improved upon the structural integrity with a similar exterior to that of 7153 Jango Fett's _Slave I_ from 2002. And the figs are nice, too, with an exclusive Bespin Guard with arm printing, and accompanying bounty hunters Dengar and IG-88. This was still a huge deal for the time.
    *3. 6206 TIE Interceptor*
We hadn't gotten it yet, and in a year where half the things were rehashes, it was nice to have something we didn't have yet finally made. I hadn't even obtained one until a few years ago since I was still trying to get all the Revenge of the Sith stuff, but I'm so happy to have a complete set of blue TIE Fighters from the Original Trilogy in my collection. #BringBacktheBlue It may not have as much wow factor as a _Slave I_ but it's a great $20 set that swooshes a lot easier and it's visually consistent with the other TIE fighters that came before, so you really could have a nice little squadron going if you had some of the previous TIEs.
    *2. 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge*
You get everything you could really want or need to reenact the Pit of Carcoon scenes from Return of the Jedi including the Sail Barge, a Desert Skiff, and the Sarlacc. Luke, Han, Lando, Leia, R2-D2, Jabba, a Gamorrean, Boba Fett, there's a jail cell, a cooking station with a spooky spider and snake, there's the big gun and some beautiful cloth sails, an ingenious technique suing boat hulls for the front for a great building experience, about all that's really missing is Chewbacca and C-3PO for the heroes, and then all the denizens of Jabba's company, but for 2006, it was still pretty good to get as much as you did. If you were like me and had a few pirate and space themed sets from the before times gifted to you, you could populate the Sail Barge pretty easily with plenty of badguys that could have easily fit in Return of the Jedi. The one major downside to this set is that there are quite a few stickers for the windows, and a few of those are also STAMPs, so be careful should you ever take it apart.
    *1. 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer*
The first playscale Star Destroyer, and it's still pretty massive (like half the length of the UCS one). It came with heeps of minifigs to reenact scenes from Empire Strikes Back, including a holographic Palpatine recreated with stickers, but it's neat how they did it with the 1x2x5 trans-light blue brick. And while he wasn't in Empire Strikes Back, this was our first set to feature Grand Moff Tarkin! And it has a really cool feature where you can remove the bridge and then the whole thing can open up, which was not a common thing for Star Wars since most ships are fairly small and only need a compartment or two, this gave you a great looking set and display piece for collectors, while also being a fun thing to open up and play with as a kid.
