Try the last part first. It's the #1 fix. Only do the first part if the last part does NOT work. I used to teach source patching at 9:30AM on Day 1 of my 101 class as a certified instructor. Unfortunately, learning on UA-cam, that basic building block of editing will fly under the radar until you're stuck. Sorry about that.

Right. Do Step 2 before Step 1. Step 1 comes in handy with bad media, like screen captures, webcam video, phone H.264, game play. If it comes from a video camera, definitely try source patching FIRST.
I had no audio on mp4s after I attempted to clear preferences to fix something else. Who knew this would happen because of it!!! I wasted good 4 hours trying to fix. Thank god your video worked! I was a bit sceptical as looked like you only had the issue when trying to drag video to sequence while I simply didn't have audio even on the Source window (even before dragging). Good thing it worked, I didn't have to do step 2. Thanks for your help mate!!

You should try to click on A1 besides the padlock. If you select the A1 left of the lock the Audio of you video should be imported. (the seconds A1 is present at 2:12)
Thanks for the hint! It worked just by clicking at A1 (highlighting) and copying the clip at the same spot again. No need for Cash deleting and Common folder renaming. Just toggle [A1] or [V1]
I have a folder with video clips, which was inside another folder, which was inside another folder. Simply moving the folder to the base of the drive worked for me... Thank you for making this video... I just wanted to share what worked for me... - Paul
