  • Sweet little bird song || birds in the white-eye family Zosteropidae
Zosterops (meaning "eye girdle") is a genus of distinctive white-eyed passerine birds in the white-eye family Zosteropidae. The genus has the largest number of species in the white eye family. They occur in the Afrotropics, Indonesia, and Australia. Typical white eyes are between 8 and 15 cm (3 and 6 inches) long. Their most distinctive feature is a conspicuous ring of white feathers around the eyes, although some species do not have them. The species in this group vary in the structural adaptations of the tongue. The Zosterops group [griseotinctus] is an example of a "large species" that inhabits a wide area and shows remarkable morphological differentiation on islands, some of which may be about 2 km (1.2 mi) apart.
