This classic movie holds a special place in my heart because I knew all the real people the movie depicts. I was a senior at T.C. when those events happened. Some old-timers don’t like the movie because it takes great liberties with the facts, but most of us love it because it is great drama with an important lesson. Julius died just a year or two ago after spending many years traveling around the country, giving inspirational talks on race relations. Some truths and untruths: Alexandria was not a southern hick town but a cosmopolitan, metropolitan suburb of 110,000. T.C. had been integrated since 1965 and at the time of the events (1971) was 30% Black. Hammond (Yoast’s school) had just two Black students because it was in the rich end of town, and G.W., in the poor end, was 60% Black. Race was not the main issue at T.C.; school rivalry was the issue, due to the merging of the three schools. Boone was not new to the school. He had been assistant coach at T.C. for two years preceding the events, and he was my P.E. teacher in his first year, when I was a sophomore. I liked Boone a lot and had a good relationship with him even though I was not a football player (I was varsity cross-country and track). As most people know, Bertier’s first car accident was not as shown. It actually occurred after the season, but the movie changed it for dramatic purposes. T.C.’s hardest game was not in the State Championship, but in the regular season, 21-16 versus Marshall. T.C. had 9 shutouts in 13 games. I saw all the regular season games. Oddly, the team’s best star was not in the movie; he was a running back who led the state in yards and touchdowns. Yoast was one of the best coaches in the state at the time, and there was widespread resentment over Boone’s selection as head coach. It is true that the training camp at Gettysburg transformed the team, and students were marveling over it when they came back. Boone was a hard-driving coach as depicted, but he had a great heart for the game and for his athletes. Singing among the Black athletes (including some basketball players) was a longtime tradition at T.C, usually done in the locker room. The players were allowed to wear their jerseys in school at any time, and they actually acted as a calming influence as depicted briefly in the film. I witnessed an incident where a player used moral suasion and school spirit to stop a fight that was starting. My favorite true thing in the movie is an event I witnessed: Ron Bass’s arrival. It actually occurred at T.C. in the first week after training camp. I was with the cross-country team, warming up at the end of the track straightaway. At the other end, a fancy car drove up the ramp from the parking lot and onto the track. Everyone was amazed; cars weren’t supposed to do that. Ron (with very long hair) and a military officer in uniform (his father) got out of the car and talked to Boone, who had stopped practice and came over to them to see what was going on. Later we learned that he was a hippie quarterback from California. He was terrific, both a fine passer and a great runner. He played much more than was shown, and he always kept our opponents guessing. Bertier was a great success in the wheelchair Olympics in the shot put and discus throw. My brother met him once in the gym in those later years, and they played ping pong. Bertier won, because he was excellent my brother says.

Love you Dasha and I get that a reaction channel can’t show the whole movie for copyright, but this was way too overly edited. So many great scenes and moments that were missed.

“Bussing” has to do with when the south first let black peoples and white people go to the same school, but since black people weren’t allowed to live in certain areas they had to take special busses to school.

And having had two kids that played the game at a high level, and have seen this movie a million times, you won't find any arguments from me about watching Slap Shot ever. Still I think it sounds like Dasha is not very familiar with great tradition of hockey greatness in her own country and though its true 'Miracle' comes entirely from a U.S. POV I think she might still find it interesting just how dominant the USSR was.

It's a great movie but unfortunately it misrepresents the character of Boone pretty badly. From what I understand he was a hardass that no one liked. Also the school was already integrated by the time he came in, and the Titans were already champtions. But it makes for a great story.

Football is very important in America. It’s a way of life not just a profession in some places.
Imagine a sport quite similar to American football, just as brutal, but with players wearing no protection. It's called rugby and it is played in many countries.
Oh look, a Euro trying to seem tough. They don't hit each other near as hard as padded NFL players do.
If the accent sounds odd for you it's because some parts of North America was settled by the French before it was officially America
Left Side! Strong Side!
Клиника по вечерам греет душу.❤❤❤
This movie was about so much more than football.
Love you Dasha and I get that a reaction channel can’t show the whole movie for copyright, but this was way too overly edited.
So many great scenes and moments that were missed.
She mentioned on her patreon thas shes had copyright strikes on her channel, she is overly editing to right now to not get hit again else the channel could be taken down. UA-cam is choosing her channel of all channels to go after, constantly. Her next several videos until further notice are heavily chopped.
Now you have to do more football movies! Any Given Sunday, The Program, Necessary Roughness
Wow it looks amazing 🎉
Watch the 2024 Rose Bowl Highlights and National Championship Game highlights. 🙂
1 mile aprox 1.6 km
“Bussing” has to do with when the south first let black peoples and white people go to the same school, but since black people weren’t allowed to live in certain areas they had to take special busses to school.
Dasha you have to react to "radio" the movie. Most people have never seen it let alone know it exists
Thanks Dasha sweety for this tremendously terrific video❤ 4:00
Loved the reaction dasha.. but the editting was a bit to much... GL with the new place..
I love the new setup
Dasha didn't you grow up in Russia? You had hockey which is even rougher than football. Anyway here some other sports movies that may interest you
We Are Marshall
Miracle
A League of Their Own
The Natural
Field of Dreams
I'd say Slapshot over Miracle. I mean why would a Russian now living in Canada want to watch a movie about the Americans winning the Olympics?
@@tonyrossell832 Slap Shot is arguably the best sports movie ever.
Bwahahahahahahaha 😂😂😂 oh yeah I got to feed
♥
Well your lovely Russia is still like this
That had me😂 8:35
Football is fun on GameDay
We are Marshall
Te recomiendo Dasha el film La sociedad de la nieve que se basa en un caso real
Hablada en español y nominada al oscar a mejor film extranjero
great review and a great movie too e.t. is a awesome movie too
She did E.T. already. The reaction is on the channel. You should check it out.
Awful Editing Strikes Again.!!!
This is such a crying shame, as you can hardly make out anything from the film.
1 mile equals 1.6 km
I dig the casting couch in the back.
Now watch "Rudy" movie. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
Best Denzel movie ever?...No, but pretty close.
I think we know better now adays that the hjman body needs water ans electrolytes when working out in the hot sun! So many athletes have had strokes ans heart attacks.
😅
Bruce Lee used to run 10,000 kilometers every morning, that is about 100 football fields, endzone to endzone.
i think you meant meters, not kilometers. 🙂
1000 km is running from Belgium to Spain you cant do that in one day
@scorpiusdrall9644 every morning never mind in one day lol
It would take you a week to DRIVE 10,000 km
Love this channel, but the editing was a real hack job on this one.
1 mile is about 1.61km
The point of a reaction channel is for us to to see you react to the movie. If you cut out all the best parts of the movie, then there’s no point of watching it I made it to about the first game of the season and I’m going to stop watching.
Patronizing her won't help. She's working through copyright strikes, so she is more aggressive with the editing so she dont lose her channel. You are free to leave at any time and watch other reactors if you don't like it. Her next several videos until further notice are edited just like this :)
@@ChristyHollywood You can simp all you want but it doesnt change the fact that it makes the videos shit. Doesnt mean we dont understand but there are many ways to avoid copyright that doesnt involve deleting 90% of the movie
@@ChristyHollywood I understand copywriting issues but that just means you can’t show the certain amounts of of a movie not certain parts. Also I’m not patronizing her. It’s called constructive criticism. As a viewer I have an opinion. People will stop watching if it’s not entertaining.
@SJHD I've said this same stuff on male react channels. Would you be calling me a simp there too? Sounds to me its just because she Is a woman and can't stand when people defend their work vs if it were a guy's work. somebody just happens to be more informed about what goes on behind the scenes and all you are good at is calling people simps for letting people know what is going on. Grow up. These are copyright strikes, not just notices, 3 of them, and the channel is taken down. News flash, the next several videos are also edited like this for the same reasons :)
@@ChristyHollywood yes because you are one of those only positive simp pussies that cant handle that criticism exists in this world. Everyone knows copyright strikes exist, but this editing was shit so do better. Look how others have edited this movie for their reactions, it can be done so stop simping cuck
It's a great movie but unfortunately it misrepresents the character of Boone pretty badly. From what I understand he was a hardass that no one liked. Also the school was already integrated by the time he came in, and the Titans were already champtions.
But it makes for a great story.
you play how you train
please react to society of the snow
Dasha I like your reactions but now a days they are a little messy. I've seen all movies but it is like we see images from basic scenes instead of the reactions. I know that they could be better. I'll still watch your channel keep up the good work
😢😢😢😢😢
You butchered this movie. Most scenes had no volume.
This is a great movie, and you look absolutely beautiful as usual
Dasha must react to Malcolm x
Wow, cut the movie to 25 minutes, yet keep blurry and no sound..... terrible!
If you ever do really want to jump into football with both feet. Then let me introduce you to the Legend of Patrick Mahomes! The greatest there ever was...
Oh yeah and great movie, great reaction Dasha.
