Skeppy: the Minecraft MrBeast - His Events' Mixed Legacy
Вставка

- Skeppy events are a huge deal for the Minecraft community. If you watch the videos themselves, you may not realize that there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. Today, I talk about the mixed legacy left by Skeppy events, including the positive impact on many UA-cam channels and the resemblance to gambling.

As a Skeppy’s fan who watched all of his video since 2019, I think he have no idea what he had done until there are ppl complaining about the queue system. His channel has grown too fast since he made the $1000 challenge videos(400k subscribers a month, that’s is so insane). I believe that he has no intention to make the queue system or challenges that contains gambling. To the ppl that don’t know Skeppy, he is not a bad guy and please give him some time to solve the problems.

@Hexadeck I was joking
I found this madlad named akprince who tried to expose skeppy on the evidence that he doesnt have the cash to pay people so he was faking them lmaooo. Then after his comments informed him he swapped his opinion that skeppy was manipulating us into views by making 1000 giveaways that make more than 1000 and apparently that makes him evil and in a last ditch effort he catfished skeppy and texted his main saying to "stop showing the truth and none of his mindless minions would believe it anyways" lol. What a thrilling saga
#skeppyevents
Edit: since people were confused, some clarification...
The dms weren't real. When I said catfishing I meant the video's creator made an alt and texted himself things under the name of skeppy to try and make himself correct by having "skeppy" say things like: Stop exposing the truth and my mindless fans wont believe you anyway.
This was nearly confirmed by the facts that
1. If it really was skeppy, he would use his skeppyextra account as the other is for mainly replies whereas his main is for tweets.
2. If it was a fan of skeppy catfishing him, they would try to paint skeppy in a good way rather than acting like a manipulative douche
3. The creator said "his wifi was lagging and he couldn't check their followers to see if it was real" because he knew he couldnt prove that.
Hope this helped explain things to anyone who didnt understand the last part. Obviously skeppy doesnt fake his videos and the akprince guy was just badly trying to keep himself in the right. Although the guy was manipulative, and a braindead manipulator at that, I gotta respect how far the man went just for like 12 views lol.
I didnt understand u lol, explain it againpls
Thats fake why would he even say that? Its probably his friends account
@@muffintime175 I know skeppy didnt say that. The akprince guy made an alt and dmd himself then proceeded to edit the pictures to make it look like skeppy said it himself to try and paint skeppy as a villain by putting words in his mouth such as his fans are minions and nobody will believe him. The funny part is he does a terrible job at hiding the fact that its obviously faked

@iGenius I'm aware. The account that was filmed as "skeppy" was just the video creator attempting to show skeppy exposing himself by insulting his fans hence why I said catfishing, unfortunately for the video creator, anyone above the age of 8 could tell even if skeppy was faking videos he wouldn't give it away that blatantly and the fact he uses his alt basically confirm the guy was just faking evidence for views. Hope this helped explain
Skeppy: *does $1k-2k event's
Techno:
*my time has come*
I understand where people are coming from that the events are pay to win, but skeppy isn't a bad guy. I'm pretty sure he didn't expect these events or the queue system to blow up and it has gotten out of control for a a bit. They made the queue system better in response in complaints so it shows they care what people think and make improvements.
Regardless, he saw the amount of views and recenue he was getting and decided to take money from kids in order to continue getting views and revenue. Yeah he was giving away $1,000 or $2,000 but do you really think he would give that amount away if he wasnt making it back quickly. He was doing events everyday, or atleast posting videos everyday, meaning he must have made alot from these kids. Whats worse is that if he hadn't heard any complaints he would've continued to take money away from kids without realizing that what he's doing is wrong. If your gonna say Skeepy isn't a bad person, ok that's fine, but then dont call others, like Keem, bad people when they do the same thing. Keem hosted an event every week for the community and didn't take money away from kids in order to give away $10,000 a week. Yet you guys still complain and say he was a bad person because he kicked out some people. Smh, you guys would've flamed Keem if he took away from kids and promoted gambling, but because it's Skeepy its different isnt it.
Anthony Quesada my goodness please be kind. Do some research first. Here is a video he made that completely proves his real motives. ua-cam.com/video/njUnSfzOK5o/v-deo.html
@@anthonyquesada1999 Lmao, the keem controversy came from the event's lack of organization, and does not have much in common with skeppy's event. I don't think both of em are bad persons, but I do think Keem reacted badly to the comments and overall, couldn't resolve the situation until it was far too late. Minecraft monday didn't come crashing down because a6d and friends left the event (even if the backlash Keem received from it was big, it was not such a big deal) it failed because of its own flaws. How do you expect an event where it's competitors may randomly spawn below the ground, be banned, left behind while in a game, etc... Still keep on going without any real fix? It's impossible dude.
With skeppy now we're talking about something that at first glance, may seem inocent, but once you consider the scale of things it seems borderline illegal, so i can see why this took this long to resolve: it doesn't have an "easy fix". Had i been on skeppy's team i would be freaking out a little about what to do: mostly because you still want some founding for the event since the rest of the money will be coming from add revenue, sponsors and all youtube stuff that's very unreliable. Luckily he managed to resolve it before any legal action was taken against him, and his reputation as a youtuber was completely destroyed, even if what he did was more harmful than what keem did.
@@Light0z2 of course hes gonna make himself look good, that doesnt prove anything.
@@whitetrash8613 wouldnt you say that Skeepys also lack organization? I mean it's just 2 people running an event and they come up with stuff as things go along. Nothing is prepared and some if not most of their events are extremely flawed. There have been winners who didnt deserve to win, like in the last to stop swinging event, the winner of that event stopped swinging twice, you could see it on Skeepys screen. Mcm was way more harder to organize, due to the small team and small budget, despite this, it looked an actual proffesional event. Yes there were buggy games, but that is the developers fault, do people think that Keems the one behind the commands for the games, he doesnt know anything about minecraft. It's own flaws was what made the event unique and entertaining. The "drama" and rivalries between the competitors made the event more fun to watch. Only techno, junkyjanker, and their fans were salty about the build battle bug that made them lose, that minigame gave Skeepy the chance to win and allowed for the people that weren't good to get points, since they only voted for the people that were stuck underneath and couldnt build. Players didnt get kicked out randomly, it happned once and it was because they didnt meet the viewer requirements. If players were left behind its because they were late to a mini game and that's not the admins or developers fault. Mcm didnt have an easy fix, Keem was giving away a ton of money, had a low budget and therefore could only afford a small team. Whereas Skeepy could of just stopped hosting events if he knew that it was taking away money from kids or he could've gave away money without taking money from kids. There definitly was an easy fix to it. He could of set up a patreon or found another a way to get paid. He could of also lowered the prize amounts, but instead he made the event pay to win. Which I dont understand, he's suppose to be giving money away to people to who need it or deserve it but instead hes giving it away to kids who can afford the passes to get in or who have parents who can afford it.
I love skeppy, but I wish that they would make the queue system to that when you’re in, you’re in for good unless YOU decide to leave yourself. I don’t think it’s fair for some people, and many people don’t want to have to keep going on Minecraft to keep their spot in the queue. Also, they should make it to where people can play in a maximum of 3 days a week, because it isn’t fair to players like me, who wait days and days t get into an event and don’t make it, and then when Skeppys video comes out, we see the same people as the last videos for the past month.
I agree but there are so many players wanting to play so it will take a lot of days to get in an event but I still agree that it’s the same people and also skeppy needs money to help with his events so tiers can help that even if it unfair
And how does he keep track with that? And leave a que open in a open free minecraft event
A to the Z they get in because they pay. It makes a lot of sense. If you pay more you should technically have more of a chance to win $1k than someone who hasn’t payed at all. (Kind of like the lottery) but this queue system should be changed and there definitely should be another way to get in without buying passes, etc.
its pay to win rubbish ive stopped watching his videos. he just wants money, in the challenge videos he makes about 1-2k from ad revenue, 3k from a sponsor, merch sales and the pass sales for the queue. he is not the mr beast of minecraft he just wants money and his viewers are too dumb to realise this

Here’s what I think should be done:
Have different queues for each trier. Have about five queues at different prices, but also have a free queue. Only allow the first 20 ish people in each queue into the game. If a paid queue isn’t full, then add more people from the free queue into the game. Naturally, the higher the cost is, the less people will buy it. High tier people won’t have any more of a chance than free or lower tier people, but because of of the high price tag, less people will buy and your chances are higher.
With this, all tiers have value and no one has a higher chance artificially, it’s entirely based upon how many people are waiting in the queue. People also won’t waste money, since they will be able to see how many people are in front of them. Hopefully this makes some sense :)

The amount of servers that will take will be insane and just being able to handle that amount of servers even with their money will break the game. It will also ruin other people's experience. His current solution is the best for now

It wasn’t a decision that’s morally right, or particularly (financially) thought out. But you can’t deny it helped a lot of people out. At least he used the opportunity to actually help people. #skeppyevents
my god the mom complaining about the skeepy event pisses me off. if you don’t like your kid trying to buy a tier to join a skeepy event just stop him from playing. and saying it’s a betting system is false there is almost always some sort of skill involved. also if you didn’t want to be the bad guy (which you should be prepared for if you’re a parent) just don’t have kids and wear a condom
chunky egg the 100 corners event was 100% gambling. No skill was involved - it was just pick a block and let a randomiser decide whether you’re out or not. Even if some of the events do have skill, since chance is a much more deciding factor in these events it still comes under the umbrella term gambling. Take poker for example - yes, there is skill involved, and that’s why you have world class poker players that make their living off of it - but it is still considered gambling because it is mostly chance. Anything you put money into without a guaranteed return can be classified as gambling. The more chance based it is, the more legitimate it is to be labeled as gambling. That’s why even something like starting a new branch of life in another country with no secure income can be called a “gamble”.
Also, you seem to not understand how parenting works. When making parenting decisions like the mum was asking for advice about, the difficulty is about trying to find a balance. That balance is keeping your child happy while also not letting them make stupid decisions that will not benefit them in anyway. Scams are a legitimate concern for parents when it comes to protecting their children online, and from an outside perspective, skeppy's events can be boiled down to “pay money to have a CHANCE at getting into an event, where you have a CHANCE of winning” and it is not unrealistic to see it called a scam.
Another thing with parenting is that yes, every parent should prepare to be the bad guy every once in a while, but the realistic solution to that is you should try and minimise how much you appear as a bad guy. You should want your child and yourself to have a positive relationship, which is why the mother went online to seek for advice. And no, don’t go off saying the mother shouldn’t have had her child when I’m sure she’s had so many more positive experiences with her child than negative ones, and all that post was was to see how she could make that relationship even healthier.
Fadaaszhi finally someone with more than 2 iq
chunky egg Imwouod say the concerns are quite reasonable. The mom could stop her son from playing however that’s unreasonable and won’t solve her problem. Her problem was her son wanted to pay for a pass to get into advertised as free event with a prize pool. Regardless of skill required money is still being put forward to enter into the competition, money which is very unlikely to be returned. In addition the mom see this less of a personal problem and more of a problem for all kids involved. Kicking her son of minecraft is useless in accomplishing her goals and is possibly damaging to her relationship with her son.
You actually do gacha
I was basically there when the whole gambling drama happened, but I never knew how bad it was, especially with that terrible parent post. That’s a big ouch, especially knowing Skeppy’s a good guy. I mean, it’s not like I know him personally, but most people who’ve seen his content can see that him as such.
I’m just glad that Skeppy’s found a good solution to the problem! He seemed to be struggling, with the unlisted video, and even on a recent livestream of his, to come up with one. BBH and his Patreon even got taken down because of the gambling thing, but with the unexpected influx of pass buyers, I think they’re doing just fine.
And yeah, #SkeppyEvents
How was my post "terrible?" I had a kid asking me to let him spend $10-$50 a MONTH to move to the front of the line. Intentional or not, it WAS illegal and against the rules and that is why Skeppy changed it. If I was wrong or "terrible" then why do you think he changed it? (Hint: Because it was wrong.)
I don't hate Skeppy. I don't want Skeppy to fail or go away. I want Skeppy to play fair and be transparent.
I keep seeing Mr. Beast mentioned. You know what the difference between Mr. Beast and Skeppy is? Mr. Beast doesn't ask KIDS to GIVE HIM MONEY to play...
Skeppy has a bright future, he just needs legal advice from a lawyer and he needs to get his rules cleaned up and fair for everyone.
Tom Steele
Are you actually the poster? Dang, okay. I mean, my comment wasn’t really referring to you specifically. Or very seriously. I did call it a “big ouch.” I was just saying how terrible it was to hear as a Skeppy fan. That some person with no connections to the Minecraft community had gotten this terrible impression of him, being posted somewhere else as a scam. I mean, it’s really tough to think about how Skeppy reacted to all this. Really, though, no need to be so defensive. I’m not really blaming you for worrying about your kid. Just, still, the whole thought of that post is, as I said, a big ouch, in terms feeling sympathy for my guy Skeppy. I’ve followed Skeppy and how he’s progressed these events for a while, so I can really do nothing but place myself in his shoes and know how bad it’d feel for my decisions to result in an uproar from people who’ve only ever heard about me in this way. So yeah, sorry to offend you, but my comment wasn’t targeting you or anything. There’s obviously nothing wrong with raising alarm about something that needs correcting, but the thought of it all still wounds me. Internally.
@@TomSteele93 the post wasn't terrible, it just showed how some people got the wrong idea of how it happened or why the ranking system was made in the first place, as someone who watched the events since the start I can tell you a little more about how this happened.
The events were never made so that you had to pay to enter, also compared to Mr. Beast, Skeppy doesn't generate as much money with these videos, so he still needs the extra income to continue with the events.
This was the real idea behind the queue rank system, "if you buy the rank to help maintain the server and the event, they reward you with a higher priority in the queue", but this didn't mean that people without a rank couldn't enter (the idea for the events was that ANYBODY had a chance, after all).
The problem was that they implied that just a small amount of people would pay for these ranks, but the events were so popular that if you didn't have a rank for the event, you couldn't enter because of the sheer amount of people with higher priority than you, so kids started to buy ranks because "they also want to participate".
Skeppy's mistake was that he didn't take this situation into account, that's why he decided to change the way the queue works because since the start he wanted everybody to have a chance to participate, and the old system clearly didn't work as intended.
It makes me sad to see how much backlash he received because of a misrepresentation, and how parents get so angry at their kids wasting money on this, yet their kids waste more money on many other stupid things (like V Bucks).
Go tell 2b2t about priority passes and how they are illegal lmao

No thats just a responsible parent. Karens are the ones who complain to pretty fair stuff/systems and say that why they aren't being treated like a queen
Nah it's true, he's got a point. It is like gambling, you pay for the position just to have a chance to win money, it's really suspicious (if you get in). Not only that, it won't guarantee that you will get in the game once you pay. He seems like a generous, responsible parent. Just because somebody didn't get what they want does not mean the parent is a karen.
After looking at the comments about the parent, he/she got some hate. People didn't really get the point fully, they are blinded by the popularity or the amount of money you can win. He is just not trying to promote gambling to his 12 year old son.
@@muk0n Thank you - and not just the gambling part - but the part where we don't get to see the insides of the gambling operation, which COULD be SCAMMY or maybe Skeppy really is a great guy and barely breaks even... We just don't know and that is my point. That's why the government doesn't allow these things to be legal in the first place, and it is why the ones that are legal (charities and such) have to be TRANSPARENT about the numbers.
As you say, we have a ton of (probably young people) who are blinded by their adoration of Skeppy who don't see the big picture - which is that someone could take advantage of that kind of blind adoration. It happens ALL THE TIME...
When I see numbers like $50 for a pass, I have to wonder if we haven't crossed into the realm of greed. $50 a MONTH I might add. $600 a year ... so I looked at the rewards for tiers, and I found that PRETTY MUCH, it was really ONE THING. It was moving to the front of the line. Nothing really else there. That set off alarm bells too.
Another thing that some folks here mentioned, a KAREN is someone who complains because they just want to complain, but they have no horse in the race - so to speak. It doesn't affect them. I'm not Karen because, well, that would be stupid name for a man where I come from, AND because I DID have a reason to complain. I wasn't just watching videos and decided to not mind my own business, I was dealing with the effects of Skeppy's error in judgement - if you give him the benefit of the doubt.

It gone to the point where I had to go rewatch his older videos.
bigboypadilla yeah kinda feel the same as you do
tysm for making this vid I needed other people's inputs on this subject
Honestly Skeppy Events have given my brain the most stimulation this entire quarantine
skeppy gives away thousands of dollars every week i don’t think people realise that buying these passes to get priority it helps him continue these events.
Is had some great info, From stuff I didn't even know about.
1:49 I was definitely not expecting that! Thanks for crediting me! :)
I like how you find a way to make you video short without skipping details
Zyphon: you can say anything
Me: Anything
Zyphon: uploads
Me: *I am speed*
My two favorite things, Zyphon and Skeppy events. Keep it up!
Thank you for bringing this up!!! I've kept saying this to myself, never got the opportunity to share it
4:29 “ling ling long wong has invited you to join...”
I am Otis_Long Dong Wong hi nice to meet you
Skeppy's events actually got me to watch this channel called StarMiner
Informative video. Really enjoyed it ;)
“If you hate this, don’t forget to dislike”
Ive never herd that before…
imagine comenting before the video comes out

how?
Hmm.. Maybe I can be early enough someday!
@@davidpackianathan6377 heard of livestream?
also can you also commetate about the hermits too? it seems you always commentate about the memer groups and technoblade? idk but it would be interesting too
im really happy someone finally talked about this topic.
welldone!
I love these events, and I also think its great how other people have started events too
they said you can ask for a refund and I just tried refunding it in Paypal and then I got banned. I spent like 60 dollars and I would be kinda fine if I could still use them right. but nope I got banned from trying to ask for a refund. so now I wasted 60 dollars and I got in one skeppy event for spending that much. yay I love mylife.
Learn from your mistakes and do not repeat.
Cool I didn’t know this even tho I watch skeppy
How?
@@matthewcline4839 what???
I guess if you weren’t on discord you might have missed out on all the drama
Na I subbed to him before
its hilarious how when skeppy got around 1.95 mil subs,it took him months to get to 2 million, then he literally gets 700k subs in a month after,i realised that monthly he gets around 350k subs and almost 100 million views,he is probably one of hte best and most hilarious people i ever heard of
Yay i made it in a background of a zyphon vid! (At the beginning i was in the last to stop jumping came like 2nd)
MrBeast has been doing minecraft challenges. Join MrBeasts Discord to compete
Imagine trying to get a shoutout even though it does nothing.
YourEvilToenail cant relate
I think the queuing sytem is much better for everyone! Great video as always!
I need more of these videos
I would like u to focus into the Dasnerth and RundownHD drama in 1 video
Imagine getting a shoutout from Zyphon lol
Epic fail
Epic fail
Lol epic faill
I think he did a great job responding quickly and transparently about the issue. He's still very young and figuring his business model out. He also had no way of knowing exactly how popular the tier passes would be, and I think he's addressed the situation to the best of his ability so far.
Yea, agreed
How much research was put into this because I love it. Analysis is my fav thing, and I am born researcher.
33 min ago premiered niçe
when you spend $1000 on events that passes are needed.
Having a crap computer, I think it would be cool if skeppy had a bedrock server
And for mobile people !
Halo 4347 bedrock is mobile right?

MrBeast: Creates a minecraft channel of challenges with money
Skeppy: Chuckles, Im in danger
Yeah, I was too kinda angry when I say a6d vid of him buying a tier to enter the event...thats just stupid...worse than gambling...
How the hell is that worst tham gambleing
He explained it, he has lost more money that the money came from people buying the rank, what's skeppy is doing is not illegal at all. You lose absolutely nowhere near the money that he loses.
@@relentless864 because, before, you entered a comptetition with 1/100 or 1/150 chance of winning. That is a 1 or 0,75% of winning a prize that Skeppy was "supposed" to giveaway to players. Imagine paying for entering a GIVEAWAY. Im just glad skeppy fixed that.
@@joaquincasascortes624 ohhhhh makes sense
Skeppy is now the symbol of Mc gambling ahaha
Dillon Carter did you not watch him talking about the queue update to pvp lands?
this is like the beauty drama but for the minecraft community and much softer
I remember I was in a queue for a whole day and I was so devastated cause I kept going back in forth in queue and I still needed up being passed by people who joined last minute.
That mother is not some kind of entitled parents
I completely understand her because of the kid looked at his mother differently now I am unsubscribed to skeppy
From what I've seen in this video, (and the unlisted video), I honestly think that what Skeppy did was really sleazy.
There was a problem, he sold the solution. If nobody raised an eyebrow at the tier system, you can guarantee that he would've kept the system in place and let people just pay for a _chance_ at getting money.
That reddit post raised a good point, too. You can't just create a "legal" version of something. That's not how it works at all. Plus, the very fact that you could skip over people in the line... It's just gross.
And I dunno about you, but that statement at 11:18 rubs me the wrong way.
"We came to the realization that the queue system was really unfair to people and heavily promoted a pay-to-play or pay-to-participate attitude towards it."
How did they not realize that this system would've raised problems sooner? If one looked at how well the videos on Skeppy's channels were doing, you could easily realize: _"This could turn into a pay-to-win situation."_ Especially with how many people are wanting to jump on at once.
Maybe it's just me looking too deep into this. But this kind of attitude reminds me about what EA does for their systems and how they try and get money out of players... and once the backlash was severe enough, Skeppy made non-p2w system... only after the damage was done.
This entire thing just gives me shady vibes, man. #SkeppyEvents
I honestly think that skeppy had no bad intentions and when people realized the problem he to realized it.
people are too willing to overlook this because he's "such a nice guy". People are multidimensional. He can be a nice and fun guy but also make sleazy business decisions. Just look at syndicate. I believe that he's way smarter than he lets on with his on video persona. I don't think skeppy is an evil person per say, but i don't think his intentions were fully good. He should have realized before even the first event after ranks were introduced that this would cause problems, considering he knew fully well how many were being sold.
@@vulixirus I agree with the idea that he's not necessarily evil, but I _definitely_ think he had ulterior motives when it came to selling the passes/ranks. He a specific goal in mind with those.
He definitely knew what was going on, but he kept quiet about it because he didn't want people to find out that it was pay-to-win, and he wanted people to constantly enter, knowing that they may not even get their money back at all.
It was gambling, pure and simple. I feel like his kind and caring exterior was what led children into spending tons of money all for a _chance_ to win 1,000$.
@@daliailad460 Except, why didn't he realize it sooner?
When you see how his videos blew up, you know for a fact that the servers would get packed with people. To say that he realized the people when the people did is... not really accurate.
He fully knew the systems in place, he knew how many were being sold. And if nobody said a word, he still would've continued to make bank on it to this day.
It just feels too convenient that it _just_ so happened to be taken offline right when he was getting the community's ire.
1 other problem is that on popular housing/creative servers (especially hypixel) like 10-25% of active houses are just people copying skeppy events when those servers/games are meant to be where you build and be creative
Dude I love your vids there so helpful and awesome
Did you know Karens exist?

Fixing the queue probably saved the future of skeppy events.
I didn't realize that there were a gamble-like system. Seeing this now actually surprises me, because I'm a proud viewer of Skeppy, not participant in activity, but I'm greatful that they fix some isses.
Man, you really don’t notice just how complicated these event logistics can get when you’re just watching videos of people having fun with the competition.
Wait wait wait...
Skeppy: I wanna be Mrbeast in minecraft
MrBeast Gaming: No.
Skeppy's Queue system changed a few days ago, good thing they actually take feedback from the community.
I’m happy skeppy is finding a way to fix this queue system
Its nice how they handled things, tbh he didnt know that the tiers was going to end up like a gamble
I have only very recently subscribed to Skeppy. He gave me the first impression of being the naughty student in class, but that playfulness is precisely his videos' charm. Also, one thing I know of someone acting that way, is that they're often the most kind-hearted, so I would never believe that he has had any bad intentions. Hopefully after some thought-out adjustments everthing will work out fine.
If your buying tiers to get in the queue better it helps skeppy get the money to do those events
I 'discovered' MrBeast before he gave away stuff, and now I 'discovered' Skeppy before he gave away stuff lol
I discovered MrBeast when he was making worst intros and now I discovered Skeppy when he was trolling toxic kids and griefing bbh server
